I believe this makes FIVE since the season started to jump the good ship Charlie...all from Weis's first class (2006) and all of which have been 4* unless I'm mistaken. This time it's Matt Carufel...
~~~~~~~~~~~
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Matt Carufel, who started three games at right guard for Notre Dame, has decided to withdraw from school after losing the starting job.
"I spoke with Matt Carufel Sunday evening and he informed me that he was going to leave the team and withdraw from the University of Notre Dame," coach Charlie Weis said. "I appreciate all Matt has done for Notre Dame and wish him nothing but the best."
The 6-foot-5, 295-pound sophomore from Forest Lake, Minn., had started three games after Dan Wenger was injured against Michigan, but lost the job to Eric Olsen last week. Carufel missed practice and was not at the Boston College game on Saturday.
Carufel is the fourth sophomore to leave the program since April. Quarterback Zach Frazer transferred to Connecticut after he was demoted to fourth string in the spring.
Quarterback Demetrius Jones, who started the season-opener against Georgia Tech, lost his starting job and left the team the week of the Michigan game Sept. 15 and transferred to Cincinnati. Konrad Reuland, listed as the third-string tight end, left the team Sept. 23.
Sophomore guard Chris Stewart left the team for several days earlier this season before returning.
Yeah, it's all gone downhill. Can't win, can't keep players, can't keep a straight face when talking about how good they should be playing........ bye bye charlie
And I am so glad that Jimmy Clausen elected to be a part of that magnificent program!
Sort of like the McKnight thing and the Booty thing at USC.
All of these boys may have gone the wrong way. Any team in the SEC might have been a better choice.
Things continue to deteriorate in South Bend at lightning speed. What news will we hear next?
I expect Weis to jump ship at the first NFL coordinator offer--- he has proven that his commitment level is low by several statements he has made in the past. Look for an extended list of excuses from the "Golden Domers" as to why the program is in the crapper. Weis probably has his bags packed and jumps every time the phone rings
The word on the ND message boards is that there is a distinct division in the locker room between coaches & players. Weis is getting blasted for continuuing to play upper classmen despite poor performance but having obvious double-standards in that regard with the likes of Jimmy Clausen, Armando Allen and a couple others to whom he made promises in order to get them to come to South Bend. Obviously, some of the players that are on the 'not happy' side of this division see their only option being to transfer out.
The program is a complete mess and it's not just what is being seen on the field. My guess is Weis will step down before he is fired....but he's a stubborn SOB so he might take the Irish program farther down than it already is before he's more or less asked to do so.
the only good thing about ND's program being shoved down our throats by the collective media is watching its downfall
NBC is funding this disaster, wonder if they're rethinking their decision like a lot of these transferring players are.
