View Full Version : Arkansas Post Game Thoughts

It's quite late so this might be a little incoherent. First, I've got to give a big War Damn Eagle to our defense. They gave up 67 yards rushing on 25 attempts to what most (including myself) consider to be the best running attack in the SEC and probably the nation. The Razorbacks had been averaging 338 yards on hte ground coming into tonight. Considering the injury situation for our defense, this performance tonight ranks right up there with some of the things we saw from the Auburn defenses in the late 80's IMO. Wile our defense held Arkansas to 67 yards rushing, our running back squad gave us 189 yards on 53 attempts. This despite the fact that Arkansas had 8 or 9 in the box pretty much the entire game. Brandon Cox once again put in a solid performace even though he attempted 23 passes, connecting on 13 for 101 yards. I could tell in the first half that Tubberville planned on winning this game with defense and runnign the ball. This was about as a vanilla game plan as I've ever seen Auburn play. This tells me that Coach Tubberville believed Auburn could go into Fayettville and pretty much shut down Arkansas' running game. Also, I think he is holding back the real fireworks for the trip to LSU next week. Auburn had to be working on something all week in practice and I can promise that we didn't see any of whatever it was tonight. I'm not predicting anything for that game but I must say I like our chances if our defense puts in another performance such as tonight. Finally, I must tip my hat (even though all I'm wearing are my Auburn boxers ) to the Arkansas Razorbacks. They held up and fought tooth and nail till the very end.

Why wasn't Kodi prepared to pass the ball? I would've gotten him ready all week long. It just seems like they didn't even intend for him to play against Arkansas. Are they preparing for something big against LSU? When there are 8-9 men in the box like there was last night, we need to THROW the ball. It's simply coaching.
BTW there is no way that Kodi can keep doing that little option play for the rest of the year. Teams know it's coming and act on it... I know the boy has accuracy and a strong arm. Why don't the AU coaches wanna score points? That game last night was too close. Just too close.
On the other hand, we might have the best defense in the nation when everyone is healthy. I'm really proud of the way our D played. They were AMAZING. Nobody will stop McFadden and Jones like that for the rest of the year. I can't wait for LSU and WAR EAGLE!

I think that the only time we will see Kodi throw the ball this year, is if Auburn is losing and Brandon is playing bad or injured. We all know that the AU coaches tend to play not to lose. No way they let a freshman qb risk INTs when they dont absolutely have to. I mean Brandon is playing pretty good right now and they dont seem to want him to pass that much. He was pretty accurate in the game. Several incompletes were good plays that came from him throwing the ball away to avoid sacks.

I'm just saying, if we score 9 against Ark, what do you think we do against LSU? It's obvious that we run on first down. That is usually shut down (other than freak plays by Brad Lester). The play calling on 2nd down is about 50/50, but how ever many yards we get on 1st down totally changes this situation (and personally I think LSU is too smart and fast to know what's coming). Bottom line is, I just think we need a spark. And Kodi could give that to us. We're just becoming 100% predictable. That is not a recipe for winning in the SEC.

UK showed that LSU can be run on. They put up 125 yards on the ground against them. I think we would have done better in this game with passing if we did more plays with slants over the middle.

Please tell me everyone heard another one of Muschamps crazy episodes when they put the sound on him... ESPN needs to show more caution LOL.

I would not want to play Auburn right now. Once again, Tuberville is a great coach and matches up fine vs. every single coach in the league, INCLUDING SABAN.

Wow, Saban makes it into this thread. The infatuation continues.

If anyone is infatuated, it's you guys. I don't happen to think that the man is the greatest thing to put on a headset. My comment was a continuation of a previous argument where one of your infatuated fans suggested that Tubbs wasn't even in Saban's league. Otherwise, I don't spend a whole lot of time thinking about him.

UK also has a spectacular passing game to mix things up, and keep the other team off balance. They would have had negative rushing yards if it weren't for the passing threat. AU better find one if they expect to run at all on LSU.
EDIT: That's also why a team with two of the best running backs in the country couldn't accomplish anything against AU. Last year, they had just enough of a passing game to make the rushing game outstanding. This year, they simply don't have it, and you can see the results.

Our passing game worked just fine versus UF...

We have already shown that we have a passing game against Florida and Vandy. I will admit that our offense was sputtering more then I think it should have, however our gameplan against Arkansas was not really about having a great passing game. It was about hard defense, hard running, and ball/clock control.

I hope you realize that Auburn went in that game with a plan to keep it as simple on offense as possible. We ran the ball pretty much all night even though Arkansas was set up to try and stop the run. The one and only time we had to open the play book past page 1 was on the last drive of the game. We got the ball with 1:36 to go and drove it down the field eating the clock and scoring the winning field goal. In a Nutt shell, Tubberville thought he could go on the road to Fayettville and beat Arkansas with one hand tied behind his back. Turns out he was right.

you are right on the money...Tubbs said they were keeping it simple and not opening up the playbook...he said they didnt really open the playbook to aggressive until the last minute when they needed to
