AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn freshman punter Patrick Tatum has been named the Southeastern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Tatum punted four times during Auburn's 55-20 victory over New Mexico State last Saturday for a 45.5-yard average. None of his four punts were returned, and all four were placed inside the 20-yard line.

Following Tatum's four punts, New Mexico State's average field position was its own 12-yard line. His first punt forced the Aggies to start from their own 8-yard line, and subsequent punts put the Aggies on their own 11-, 14- and 15-yard lines. His final punt traveled a season-best 50 yards.

Tatum also successfully converted a fake punt, running nine yards for a first down in the third quarter with Auburn leading 35-20.

For the season, Tatum is averaging 42.0 yards per punt. Seven of his 11 punts have been downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line, including two at the 1-yard line.

Tatum is the second Tiger to be honored by the SEC this season, joining Quentin Groves, who was named the league's Defensive Lineman of the Week following Auburn's season-opening win against Kansas State

Now that is a great question!! Perhaps Tubbs has some kind of policy where 'you dont lose your starting job because of injury'. To his defense though, Shoemaker has done a good job as well. Having two great punters is not a bad situation to have, especially with the new kick-off rule change.

Just read where Shoemaker attempted Auburn's final punt of the New Mexico State game. It went for 62 yards. I guess Tubbs knows what he's doing.
