View Full Version : How many more (L) until Nutt fired?

So the question is, how many more games can Houston Nutt lose before he gets fired? Personally I think he can lose 2 more and keep his job, with those two losses having to be to ranked teams (specifically SC and LSU).

There are two telling events over the past few weeks that help me answer the question "How many Loses?" for Houston Nutt at least in my own mind. First there was the selection of a new Athletic Director, Jeff Long from Pitt. This flew under the radar of most commentators and analysts. This is the job that was promised to Nutt. No reason was given as to why he was passed over. But word up is that the powers that be were not taken back by the possability of alleged impropriety last year but they were upset that a text message was sent to anybody but the Lord minutes before the kick off of the LSU game. The feeling was his head wasn't in the game for whatever reason. The Malzahn debaucle underscored this. Which brings me to point two. In an interview on ESPNU two weeks ago Nutt shared that at the begining of the season he told McFadden that he didn't need to win the Heisman for the team. No Duh! The team has to win for McFadden to get the Trophy. Poor Nutt doesn't get it. The consensus from the Big Wigs and Coaches I've talked to (off the record of course) seem to indicate that Nutt thought he could ride his one trick poney through this season and get a piece of then Western Division of the SEC and a decent bowl bid. Unfortunatly when you have ony one trick, most good teams and a few poor ones as well can catch on by the third quarter, adjust and put up two or three touchdowns aganst a pretty good but tired defense. So to the question "How many loses?" He's already on the way out the door. But at the end of the season after we've lost close ones to Auburn, Ole Miss, S. Carolina, Tennessee, Misssissippi State and LSU, it will appear that the magic number was 8. Nutt can't adjust. His pride and lack of insight get in nthe way. I have a very expensive wood in my golf bag that I use often. I'd hate to have to putt with it though. As good as McFadden, Jones, Smith and Hilis are, you need a passing game to make it all real. And you need vision and your head in the game to keep your palyers hydrated and healthy. These are the coaching errors that concern me, not just the dumb play calling.

Nice insight, well said.
I wonder if we the fans will ever learn what happen to the Houston Nutt we hired 10 years ago. Where did it all go south. When was it that he lost that edge? I love those first couple of years when he got here and defenses didn't know what the hell the guys was going to run. That off balance attack, his early offenses has wasa awsome. Then like a sack of crap hitting us between the eyes it was suddenly gone? Where did it go so fast? How did he arrive at this shell of a man he use to be? Not the hard head lacks in pratice as you said preparing players, and all he knows now it seems, is getting a lead, and playing not to lost. Putting pressure on a defense with youngsters who can't find the ball in flight.
Jeff Long will recieve the same torment from the haters that Nutt is enduring with if he doesn't make the decission they are waiting on. And that's to take the program in a new direction.

Can't really pinpoint how many games. It'll be the one where he uses McFadden so much that he gets injured.

I'm not going to pretend that I know the ins and outs of the hog program, but from the outside y'all just seem to be very ungrateful for what this man has done for you. He really needs to get the hell out of Fayettville and go somewhere that he will be appreciated.

Well, as I've said many times. Nutt is the best coach we've had in a while and I still want him here. But I do agree with two common statements about him; He's not the gunslinging coach he was years ago; He doesn't seem to have his players motivated like he use to.

I definitely don't want him gone because I've seen the really bad years. Arkansas is in the best conference in the NCAA and we compete more often than not. That's pretty good football if you ask me.

I guess the bright side of all the "fire Nutt" movement is that we are pissed when we don't win 8-10 games versus just having a winning record. lol

Coming from a fanbase that fired Cutcliffe?

That's a very good point. From the outside that looks stupid, but from the inside it was supported. I guess it is sort of the same situation. Very good point. Chivas 1 Chuck 0

Cut did go where he was appreciated. Why isn't everybody happy?

Cianne, you are the example of what is infecting Akransas fans. These new age Arkansas fans think we should be lucky to even have 8 wins.

No pride. I understand why an outsider might think that, I just wish no Arkansas fans believed those lies.

From what I see on this site most everyone is a "new age" fan. Don't talk about the past unless it happened in the last five years or you are just living in the past and it doesn't count.

I am living in the past in the sense I know we can expect better than what we're getting...

Did I miss something? Did Cianne post in this thread?
