What's the general feeling right now at MSU? Earlier in the year, I would have figured that Croom was on his way out after this year.

What's the general attitude about Croom in the MSU world, now that the team is 3-1 right now?

it all depends on the rest of the year i think.....after starting 3-1 i think he absolutely HAS to win 5 games to even have a shot but if we can win 6 and go to a bowl game i think he is fine but its going to be hard...

Honestly, unless Mississippi St. just goes winless for the rest of the season, I think Croom's job status is fine. Many people said State would be lucky to win a game, and the majority said they'd win no more than 3. Well, they are already at 3 wins 4 games into the season. It's still a long season, and State is still has some winnable games on their schedule. I think Croom will be back next season.

I say Croom has no chance of losing his job if he wins 5 and he'll probably keep it even if they win just 1 more game.

I think you've got to show him the door if that happens. If you can't get a winning season in 4 years you gotta go

You also have to consider the circumstances. Croom doesn't have a very strong recruiting base, and it is going to take time for him to get players that are capable of consistently capable of playing with every team in the SEC.

I understand your points, but he should be able to get 6 wins after 4 years. If he can't do it in 4 years why wait? Move on. It's common knowledge in Oxford that Coach O has four years to win. They are all your players by then and if you can't make a 3-4 game win swing in 4 years. Gotta go.

I think he's coming back next season regardless. I do believe next year is when even more noticeable improvement must happen. 5 maybe 6 games...I'd think 5 again would be decent, but the year after that a bowl game is a definate must

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ole Miss wasn't on probation when the O got there. State, however, was on probation when Croom got there.

MSU would be crazy to fire Croom. They won't get any better. Considering he walked into a program in turmoil, and has kicked over THIRTY players off the team for disciplinary reasons, he's done pretty good. If they leave him alone he will have the Bulldogs about as good as they can be in a couple of years.

Okay, let me get this straight, we are four games into a 12 game season, and MSU has started off the year pretty well going 3 and 1 and we're still having stupid threads like this started after every week. Quite frankly if ya'll can't come up with anything better to write about State right now I would rather ya'll not write a damn thing, these threads are pointless till after the season is over. How about we talk about our team right now. Let's see we've gotten the best start in 7 years going right now and are playing pretty good football right now. The Defense is looking a whole lot better than most (me included) would have ever thought they would be this year with the departures we had from it last year. Our RB Dixon has picked up right where he left off last year nearly averaging 100 yds a game, and his back up Christian Ducre has been a pleasant surprise this year, showing he is more than capable of carrying the rock when needed to. Probally the biggest and best surprise this year has been the play of our Offensive line which have given our QB's time in the pocket and opened up big holes for our backs to run through. Another big improvement from last year is now that Henig is hurt again we have two capable QB's to back him up. They both did a great job in the Auburn game and looked pretty good against Gardner Webb also, except for the one bone head throw by Riddell. All in all this team is finally starting to come together and play with some consistency and confidence, I would not be surprised at all anymore if this team wound up with 7 wins, and if they do I see no reason why Croom shouldn't get the SEC coach of the Year, wouldn't that be a shocker. But don't count us out yet, we're still playing ball over here in Starkville.

I played against Ducre in high school and he is a stud. Didn't he transfer from Tulane?

Yeah he did. He played a little last year but never really did anything. He has really turned it on this year though. He is a huge part of our recent run of success.

no matter what happens Croom will be around through at least next season. if this season goes as i hope he might get a raise and extension. we're at 3 wins with 4 home games left that are winnable. (UAB, UT, BAMA, OLE MISS) a upset over USC or ARK on the road is possible. we'll see. go dogs!

MSU is playing great ball this year and I agree there should be more threads on that as well as Croom possibly earning an SEC Coach of the year honor. To this point, he has definately done the most with perhaps the least talent and support.

I think the MSU Bulldogs get a bowl game with a win over UAB, Ole Miss and Arky. That record there keeps his job.

They're totally awesome.
We need our defense to step up big time to have any chance at USC.

Lighten up, Francis.

I started this thread for a reason. I legitimately wanted to know what the general feeling was with the MSU faithful. I didn't start this with some anti-Croom agenda. If you don't like the thread, then ignore it. Otherwise, don't jump my a$$ for starting the thread.

I'm still in wait-and-see mode. I'm very happy (and surprised) at the 3-1 start, but I won't be shocked if we end up going down the same road again and lose nearly every game left on our schedule. I've seen it happen before.

I see State winning at least one more game, probably two more games. Croom will be back next year unless he loses every single remaining game, which I obviously don't think will happen. Six wins and a bowl is not out of the question, but I think it is way too early to start thinking bowl game. We are 3-1, those wins coming off a bottom rung C-USA team, a D1-AA team, and a down-on-their-luck Auburn team. We should be able to beat UAB and Ole Miss (since it's in Starkville this year). We'll need another upset to get those six wins.

I'm pulling for Croom, but he still hasn't convinced me that he can do it.

I think the job will remain his. I thought for awhile that he was sure to lose it, but now I feel that he will be there longer than any of us, even as recently as a few weeks ago, expected.

i hope we can do fulfill everybody's optimistic outputs and i pray that we do....but im like nick....in the wait and see mode....i love that croom has finally realized that running the ball the the answer and i think we have a very good def coordinator....offensive coordinator though...not so much....croom needs to get rid of his best friend whether we lose all or no games the rest of the year.....but bully, calm down no one is gunning for croom's head yet...it is just a topic a fellow sec fan was wondering about....go dawgs!!!

Agreed, I don't think he's going anywhere after this season. He's starting to make a few moves, and they look good so far this year. He was given a time frame for significant improvement, right; and I think he's making some with a couple years still remaining in that frame.

Then go look up the other 4 threads that ask the same question, you can get your answer from those.
