As the Razorbacks return home this week to play host to a red hot Kentucky offense, fans throughout the state still question this young Arkansas defense. Let me see if I can better or at least help you understand what you need to know playing in this kind of environment.
Arkansas past defenses, when they were good, if not great, always had that one hard hitter that wide outs always feared. guys like Steve Atwater, Kenoy Kennedy, Tony Bua and the latest Sam Olajubutu to name a few. These guys were know throughout what ever conference they played in as head hunters. And that guys sends a message to opponents when going across the middle.
In the loss to Alabama I notice that not only did our DB's loss sight of the football on a few occasions, but when confronting DJ Hall and the ball we play him soft. Hall like anyone would have thought twice about the routs he ran if someone early would have put a helmet in his mouth knocking that smile off his face. No one for Arkansas ever did. So he had success. Advantage DJ Hall.
Thus far this season we haven't had that big hitter to come forward to mark his territory. It's not to late and tonight would be a perfect time to do such. We need a guy to say, I've had enough. IM tired of this bad press. IM making a stand tonight. I am the next big hitter at Arkansas, and I will be feared. Do any of you young guys have what it takes to do this?
If you are to young to remember Atwater or Kennedy, and you want to get the feel for what it's like to be a difference maker and deliver the huge hit that changes the strategy of the offense, Just tune in to watch a LSU game. They indeed have a game changing DB that can lay a guy out. Craig Steltz number 16 for the Tigers is the next great DB coming from the SEC. He changes WR's way of thinking. Having a player like Steltz in their backfield is one reason these guys are ranked as the best defense in the land.
And if you can get into the head of a big time wide outs, you have won half the battle. Now that you know the recipe for success, who wants to join LSU's Craig Steltz as the SEC's biggest hitters? Hope to see you in the Kentucky game tonight.
