I'm not making this out as an excuse for Auburn's woes this year but it is quite uncanny how the SEC team that wins the Cotton bowl really goes in the tank the following year. Here are the last few year's winners and their results from the following year...
Jan 07: Auburn 17 Nebraska 14 (Auburn is 1-2 so far)
Jan 06: Alabama 13 Texas Tech 10 (Bama went 6-7 next season)
Jan 05: Tennessee 38 Texas A&M 7 (UT went 5-6 next season)
Jan 04: Ole Miss 31 Oklahoma State 28 (Ole Miss went 4-7 next season)
I had no idea about this until someone brought it up on the radio today. Seems like the worst thing for an SEC team to do is go and win the Cotton bowl!
Good point. I hope we don't go to the cotton bowl this year.

Welcome to the board Bama. Glad to have you here. I don't think we have to worry too much about the Cotton Bowl right now but Bama might.

Sorry to hear that. But look on the bright side. It's only the winner of the Cotton bowl that comes out snake bit. But that would mean Bama losing to coach Fran @ A&M if CBS is right. That would be a hard choice to have to make I guess. On one had I know every true blue (or crimson) Bama fan wants to cream Fran, on the other hand what if that means the Cotton Bowl curse is back on Bama's head!?!

Ouch! What a tough trend!
Glad LSU missed out on that trend after their 2002 loss in the Cotton bowl to Texas 20-35. Great stat WE73.
Bayou Bengal just miss out on the Cotton Bowl's "SEC jinks" trend:
2002 Cotton Bowl - Texas 35 LSU 20
2003 - BCS NC - LSU 21 Oklahoma 14

LSU stunk it up in the second half against Texas in 2002 Cotton Bowl, but took it to the house in the 2003 BCS NC

Thanks for the welcome. I've been coming to this board for a long time but never have joined.
Auburn maybe struggling right now but Tubbs will have them playing better soon.

I hope your right. I saw some interesting stats posted today buy a fellow Auburn fan. He listed just about evey stat you can think of over the last three games for Auburn and those of our opponents. In every area Auburn is dead even with them except turn overs. First, I think it's amazing we have just as good stats considering all the times we've lost the ball. Second, I think of how were it not for all those turn overs we'd most likely be 3-0 and somewhere between 10th. & 15th. in the polls. If they can just correct the turn over probelm I think we'll be able to turn this thing around.

Funny how 'Bama fans hate Fran the same way Dolphins fans hate Saban. Who's the Don Shula of the Crimson Tide that used their power and influence to spin up the Hate Fran machine? PBJ? Finus St. James IV?

Maybe Fran himself. When Fran was there and the NCAA announced the sanctions on Bama they also announced that all Bama players could transfer to any other school without penalty of having to sit out a year. Our players were being contacted by other teams' coaches that were trying to get them to transfer. (I can not remember any other time where the NCAA did this) Fran made a big speech to the team, the "Hold The Rope" speech where he talked many players out of transferring. One year later he was at Texas A&M.
