I've been as hard on Cox as anyone here. From reading this story though it looks like the players are still backing Cox 100%. This being the case I've got take another look at my opinion of him. They are the ones going out there giving blood, sweat, and tears so we as Auburn fans have to back them up for good or bad.

AMEN!!!
I have my doubts about him too, but TT is not going to take him out yet and if everyone else is against him then he will probably play worse. I dont think we see Kodi against MSU but the next game we may see someone else getting some play time.

Wile I do support the team backing up cox, I also think it would be a good idea to get Burns some playing time like Florida did with Tebow last year.

I agree, but I have been trying to find out if he can play some and still redshirt. If he can then definately give him some playing time, and get him some experience, if not, then unless he is going to get a LOT of playing time then redshirt him.

I think if he plays any without getting hurt then he cannot redshirt.
BTW.... This is big number 1000 post for me. I'm a Legend in my own mind!

Congrats on #1000
I heard that if he played X amount of plays in a OOC game then he would still be eligible for a redshirt, then I also heard what you just said from someone else. I really need to find out something about redshirting

Here is something I found:
Redshirt Definition
The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. For example, if you are a qualifier, and you attend a four-year college your freshman year, and you practice but do not compete against outside competition, you would still have the next four years to play four seasons of competition.
Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.
So, if they play him at all then he is not eligible for RS

That's why I think they should rotate him in as much as possible. The rest of the team is as young as it's been in years, maybe ever. If they get him experience this year then next year and the year after Auburn will field not only on of the most talented but also one of the most experienced as well.

There's no sense in redshirting him this year. Let's face it, as young as the offensive line is this year, eventually Cox is going to get banged up badly enough where he has to sit out a few series or possibly a game. If that happens late in the season, then you have to take off Burns' redshirt, you've just wasted the first half of his freshman season. I'm all for reshirting kids and building for the future, but there's a reason NFL teams carry 3 QB's on their limited rosters.

I am starting to see the positives of playing him this year. I was really hoping to have him around for 4 full years after Cox, but it may be better to go ahead and play him.

I agree with you. The longer they leave the human punching bag in, the quicker he gets knocked out.

Tuberville on Kodi Burns
Posted by Phillip Marshall, The Huntsville Times September 12, 2007 12:39 PM
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was asked Wednesday on the weekly Southeastern Conference teleconference about the possibility of playing true freshman quarterback Kodi Burns.
Though Tuberville didn't rule it out, he said Burns is, at best, No. 3 on the depth chart behind starter Brandon Cox and backup Blake Field. Both Burns and redshirt freshman Neil Caudle, who suffered a separated shoulder in the first scrimmage of preseason camp, have worked in the No. 3 spot.
"Blake Field is our backup quarterback," Tuberville said. "We have practiced Kodi with our second team and third team since he's been here just trying to get him ready for possibly a game this year, but also to get him enough snaps this fall in terms of practice to go into spring practice really knowing what he's doing.
"We haven't given up on the thought of Kodi being a player this year for us. He's a couple of plays with injuries away from being possibly even our starter. We have a good quarterback in Brandon. You normally don't play more than one quarterback in a college football game. Brandon is out quarterback. Blake Field is No. 2. When you get to No. 3, it's either Kodi or Neil Caudle."
Tuberville said redshirting Burns would still be the best-case scenario.
"We'd love to redshirt him, but again, we always practice him and get ready to play him," Tuberville said. "You always have to have three quarterbacks who know the offense. We work him like he's No. 3. Neil Caudle also didn't go through much of two-a-days. (Burns) has had the luxury of getting a lot of practice time."
