I had heard horror stories about the way UGA fans treat USC fans in Athens. Therefore, I was expecting the worst.
We got there around 1:00 and tailgated in a lot with pretty much nothing but UGA fans.
I must say that I did not have anything but positive experiences with the UGA fans, both before and after the game.
Props to you, UGA fans, for proving the tales of horror to be wrong.
I'll definitely go back to Athens again.
Good luck the rest of the way, Dawgs.

I must ask the question, what is it with the UGA women showing their skin? There was more cleavage being shown in Athens than there is at a nude beach. WB almost had his eye poked out in the student center!

I guess its good and bad everywhere. I have a couple friends in the band that said that the Bulldog fans were HORRIBLE to them throwing beer bottles and stuff at them. I guess the band is an easy target, and EVERY team has their drunken a$$hole fans, including sc, but that really isn't cool at all

Glad you had a good time. It was a great atmosphere. See the majority of UGA fans are pleasant and there to have a good time. It's usually the drunk students showing their behinds.

It did cause a bit of a problem considering we were both with our wives at that point.

I must say that I've never seen the Georgia crowd so tame. I guess it helps when you (1) win and (2) sit nowhere near the student section. I've been going to Athens every other year since 1995, and I've never heard them so quiet. This was the first year I didn't have anything thrown at me. Only a few people talked crap before the game, and of course, they only did it after walking past us, never to our face, as usual. After the game, I heard some of the lamest wise cracks I've ever heard from opposing fans. For example, I had one guy come up to me and say, "That's okay, Tommy Bowden still owns y'all." 31-28, buddy. One girl still tried to use that "Spurrier is a Cock" jab. Note to all opposing fans who think that's funny: There ain't a Carolina fan I know under the age of 70 who gets offended by that statement, so save your breath and your Hane's Beefy T's.
All in all, I gotta give props to the Georgia fans for being pretty smart. They never, EVER, under any circumstance whatsover talk smack until after the person they try to rag on has past them, so there's very little chance for confrontation. Also, they know when it's time to put their tails between their legs and go home. I've never seen Athens empty out so quickly. I guess talking crap just doesn't make sense after losing, and tailgating probably just isn't as fun after your most hated opposing coach comes in and beats you in your own house. Probably a pretty humbling experience for everyone involved.

With that attitude, you really gonna throw stones at Georgia fans? We emptied out quick because we were pissed, not because we were afraid of you guys. Trust me you are outnumbered by about 90,000... we're not leaving to avoid hearing it from you guys. We just didn't feel in a very festive mood afterwards. Tails between our legs? Glad to see you are returning the respect that we showed you all. This is the thanks we get.

I don't need to thank y'all for anything other than crowning Matthew Stafford the second coming of David Greene before he has accomplished a dern thing. It was great to see a lot of egos come crashing down as y'all left with . . . yes . . . your tails between your legs.
Don't come to me talking about Georgia fans showing respect. You've been humbled. That's all it is.

I do appreciate the respect we have received from the posters on this site. And, I will say, that only one UGA person spoke to me after the game (1 of 90,000) and he congratulated the Gamecocks for a hard fought win. We talked about how every game this year is going to be like that for UGA and USC. It was very quiet on our walk back to the car. We could hear the crickets chirping which was nice compared to the drunken revelry that was taking place before the game.
It was interesting today at work where I am surrounded by UGA fans with a few UF fans. The Florida folks were all congratulating us for outplaying and out coaching UGA. The Georgia fans were making one excuse after another. They could not accept the fact that they had been beat by USC - only that they had beaten themselves.

Dern you! Foiled again!
Okay, they weren't leaving with their tails between their legs; they were leaving with their mouths shut, which was a nice change of pace. I'll never forget walking down East College with my dad, mom, sister, and wife listening to the crickets along the railroad track.

I don't think either team played particulary well...congrats to the Cocks on pulling it out. Both offenses looked inept and the defensive stats aren't all that wonderful either. Good job by Carolina's redzone defense...and Spurrier did what he had to do to exploit our defensive weaknesses. Very sloppy game all around...I'm anxious to go back and watch tape to see if it was really as sloppy as I saw it in person...

I agree. Most of the Georgia fans on this site have been great sports.
I to agree that it was a very sloppy game ( on both sides) What it really boiled down to is who made the least amount of mistakes. South Carolina didn't dominate. however you did pull it out but don't get use to it. lol

Y'all act like you walked into athens and completely dominated the game. and completely owned the dawgs. granted you did win. we were 1 dropped pass in the endzone by Wilson from winning. it was a very hard fought game by 2 good teams. classic SEC battle. end of story.

It's a shame you wasted your first post on this.

Y'all act like y'all are the only team who dropped passes. We can play the "if" game. We dropped plenty of passes that would have keep a few drives alive.
Y'all act like you walked into athens and completely dominated the game. and completely owned the dawgs.
Just returning the favor. In the words of my high school coach: "Georgia is the one team that you can whip for 55 minutes, only to have them come back and win in the final seconds. Then their holier than thou fans talk to you like they kicked your ass up and down the field all night."

if you're gonna count that TD then you have to take away the FG you got on the drive making it a tie not a victory. all i'm trying to say is, let's not put this on Wilson. the "what if" game is always more concrete in fans' minds than it should be. afterall he was rocked on his way down, so even without the bobble that ball may have come out for an incomplete pass. there are a thousand different ways that game could have realistically ended...some of them UGa win and some of them USC wins. other than 2003 that's been the story of the last 7 UGA/USC games. the results have worked in your favor most of those times, but this was our turn. as you say...a classic SEC battle.

Just let it go. They have been wanting to say this for 5 years. Winning is like sex to SCAR fans, could you imagine how much you would brag when you finally got it 5 years later?

Just watched the replay on CSS. USC played even better than I thought. Mitchell was a lot better than I thought, and had our receivers been a little better then I would not have been quite so nervous late in the fourth quarter.
Norwood, Brinkley and Brinkley are beasts. Carlos needs to grow up and play some football instead of running out of control. When he does so, then look out.
Here's to improving each week (which is a Spurrier trademark)!

I just think back to the last year we lost to USC which was 2001, Richt's first year. We went 8-4 beating some good teams and losing to some good teams. Richt got alot out of the young talent he had. The next year 2002, Richt went 13-1 and Southeastern Conference Champs. Things go in cycles, I can be patient.

You're talking about Williams-Brice? I think you have him wrong, there. Most members here actually like him...I know the USC fans do. He's usually one of the more level-headed posters on the site. He just has a thing for Georgia and UGA, apparently. I believe he has posted his reasons a number of times already.....

I ask my Brother in Law what he thought about the Athens fans since he is a huge Bama fan and he goes to as many games as he possibly can.
When he started talking, his face looked like he just took a whiff of spoiled milk or something.

I might cry myself to sleep tonight. A Georgia fan doesn't like me.
There are few times when I come on here and "try to start something". I actually can't remember ever doing that. It just so happens that when I decide to say something, I tend to be right most of the time. I know it's hard for you to deal with, but I understand.
Check out the USC Recruiting News thread to see how "my own" feel about me.
