i think that is south carolina's DC. y is nobody givin him any credit?...i keep readin spurrier this and spuriier that but in reality that was a defensive win. they kept us out of the endzone and made us go 3 for 18 on 3rd down. as for the offense..the runnin game was solid...41. ypc and 140 yards and the passing game was very mediocre...170 yds no touchdowns..i relize that SS is the head coach and gets the win but to say "spurrier stikes again" or other comments like that..i just dont see it

Spurrier is the name brand so the media will always go with his name in the headline. Trust me, the vast majority of USC fans know what kind of coach Nix is. The rest of the SEC either already knew it or are quickly figuring it out.

He's the head coach, that's all. And, he's responsible for all facets of the game, to a certain extent. Nobody's taking anything away from Nix... it's just that when you talk about a team, and their coach, everyone refers to the head coach. Coordinators don't get mentioned much; usually because if a certain group is failing, it's still the HC's job to see that it gets fixed.

He always had a good, aggressive D at USM. The real question is how long will Spurrier be able to keep him.
As far as why he's not getting that much credit for this win, no matter how good Elvis' band was, Elvis was the star attraction.

I am sure he will be sought after by other colleges for a HC position in the future...The announcers did talk about him yesterday for a few min...

Nix is a fine person and will be a HC somewhere soon. Spurrier has a little bit to do with the recruits that Nix has to work with and there's no denying that, IMO.

Nix is regarded as a soon to be head coach, and is pretty well known. I do however hate how every headline starts with "Spurrier pulls one off against "fill in SEC team" or Spurrier outsmarts "fill in SEC coach" here" or "Spurrier is back in the heads of "fill in SEC team". Give the boys on the field credit once in a blue moon. It would have been nice to wake up to "Gamecocks beat Georgia" but I'm through ranting I guess. :soapbox:

It's ESPN and you know they like the big names; Spurrier, USCw, ND, Michigan, you get the point.

The game yesterday was played mainly between the 20's, but it was won in the red zones. Nix's defense attacked and played very well. We gave up a few big plays here and there (Moreno is awesome), but we clamped down big time in our red zone. Nix's defense keeping Georgia out of the endzone was huge. Spurrier's offense reaching the end zone once was huge. We won that game because of the way we played in the red zone, even though both teams had limited opportunities there.

Nix was offered a HC job last year to some small school but turned it down.

It's going to be tough for us to keep Nix around for 3 or more years. If his defenses continue to play the way everyone knows they are capable of, he will get offers pretty quickly.

The OC and DC are usually the ones responsible for the good and bad game play on the field. The head coach is responsible for finding and keeping tallented coordinators at the school. If the team does bad, who's fault is it? It's always the head coachs job on the line. If you talk up your DC soon he will be somewhere else.

THat's what we all thought about Charlie Strong when he was the DC at S. Carolina, and he's still an assistant (at Florida, though).
