We entered the 2nd week of football on this Saturday, Sept. 7th. And the fans across the conference learn some things they weren't aware of last week. Teams weren't as good as first expected. And some unexpected teams found the winners circle. Let's take a look on how the SEC faired in week 2.

The East Division once again led the conference in scoring with 192 points. That's 43 fewer point than last weeks production. While allowing 122 points scored against them. that's 13 more that in week one. That's brings the two week total to 427-225.

The West Division scored 158 points against their opponents, while giving up 93. Five teams for the west played Saturday while Arkansas had a off date. West total went to, 347-269.

So what did we learn in week one?

Once again Florida and Kentucky put up big numbers against sub par opponents. Mississippi State and Tennessee got off the canvas to combine for 77 points to rebound after being the only teams to suffer losses in week one. Alabama ventured to Nashville to take advantage of a poor Vanderbilt kicking game and a few questionable calls to win it's 2nd game of the year. Another surprising road victory came in Athens where the Gamecocks upset a different looking bunch from a week ago, as #11 Georgia Bulldog go down. In Oxford,Ole Miss allowed QB Chase Daniel to throw for 5 touch downs to fall to 1-1. And grumbling sounds came from the stands directed towards Tuberville as he let several seconds run off the clock in regulation, to try his chance in overtime against South Florida. Tuberville was clearly frustrated on the sidelines and glared into the stands after boo's rang out from fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn seem content to go with it's kicking game hoping it's defense would pull off the second win of the young season. But fell short when the #17 ranked Auburn tigers drop to unranked Big East conference South Florida 26 -23 in overtime. There were two in-conference match-ups in week 2. South Carolina @ Georgia & Alabama @ Vanderbilt.

TD's grade for week 2
B With two top 25 team losing (Georgia & Auburn) it didn't do anything good for the conference. Ole Miss losing at home to a Missouri club didn't help matters. Yet LSU hosting ACC powerhouse Virginia Tech, the week wasn't a complete loss.

Week 3 key match-ups:
Tennessee @ Florida
Louisville @ Kentucky
Arkansas @ Alabama
Mississippi St. @ Auburn

Team's who's Stock is rising:
South Carolina
Alabama
Kentucky
Florida

Team's who's Stock is falling:
Georgia
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss

Team's with a bye: None

PT and the other UK fans have apparently rubbed off on me. I seriously read that "Loserville" @ "Kentucky." Looks like there are a bunch of good games on the schedule.

Seriously, is it just me or has college football gone off the deep end this year? It seems like it's a curse to be ranked...

I wish Tennessee vs. Florida was later. I kinda wanted the Vols to be on a good run so it would be like the old day's when this game decided who won the east. Not to slight the other east teams. The Florida/Tennessee games were always great even if they turned into blow-outs.

Not that it won't be a great game, I just want more hype!

I would like to address a few replies to this thread.

1. Is College football cursed?

I would like to add to the former voice of college football, Keith Jackson's take on this. In a recent interview, Keith was ask about Michigan's woes with DII school Appalachian St. Keith said, "People need to remember that Appalachian St. is a good program with very good athletes" Jackson went on to say that kids today prefer to transfer to a small college rather than ride the bench waiting for playing time. That is what has happen in this case. Several very good players who went to major colleges, end up transferring to a Appalachian St. like school, then the planets line up just right and you have this situation which happen to Michigan. Good athletes vs. good athletes. Doesn't happen all that often, but it may start after this. Appalachian St. has won two national championships at their level. The only difference with DII programs and DI schools is the numbers of Scholarship restrictions. X's & O's are the same at all levels of football. So is preparation.

Appalachian St.'s upset will have staying power

2. Will Tommy Tuberviller be "Croomed"?

This week in Auburn it will sound like bacon frying. National, regional, conference and state media will fry Tommy Tuberville after poor decisions made on the sidelines late in regulation in Saturdays loss to Big East member South Florida. The coach decide to even the playing field (% wise) to put his faith in his defense to pull out a 2nd straight victory which never came. Last week Kansas State out played his Tigers for three quarters. It took a great defensive effort by Auburn to claim it's opener with a win.
With 39 seconds left in regulation, Tubs decided to let the clock to run out to go to OT, grumbling came loud and hard from the Auburn faithful. And a noticeable Tuberville turn to the frustrated onlookers in discuss at them shaking his head toward the unhappy fans. I witness a desperate man as time ticked off, but more I witness what looked to be a soldout crowd shocked of what they were seeing from their beloved Tigers.
The Auburn staff apparently forgot that California, Texas and Florida are still the top recruiting bases for college football today. And as far as recruiting in Florida goes, FSU, Miami and Florida can only get so many great kids from the area. That leaves several kids to be selected. Seems there are a good number that wants to stay close to home. That's when people that can evaluate talent come to play, and smaller schools like a South Florida reap the benefits. Don't know what Tommy was looking at. But I witness a team who came to Auburn not only to receive a pay check, but a solid bunch that wanted to make a statement to a national audience, which they did.
Last night Tommy Tuberviller with his lack of good decision making. Added his name to the list of SEC coaches on the Hot Seat. This may very well be the talk of the year in the SEC. The fans of Auburn will not accept what happen last evening. They are smart and know football. They realize that one loss in conference is highly likely. But to lost to an Up-n-comer, No way.
Auburn's season just became a very long one. Each game from here on out is an absolute must. One more slip up even if it be LSU, TT will have the crosshairs directed right between his eyes from fans who expect better than what they got on Sept. 7th. 2007.
As fans all we want from our coaching staff is to give our team a chance to win. Last night Tommy Tuberville, for whatever reason, did not give that opportunity to the fans or the players.
And finally, what I witness last night from Tuberville was how he has seem to ban the main thing that got him to where he at today. Playing his bet athlete's. To me he has always put the best eleven athletes on the field to win. But od late it seems not to be the case. Let the top athlete's make the plays. Saving red-shirts at this level of play will no doubt get him fired.

I disagree with your whole Auburn analysis TD.

Yes Auburn fans will be disappointed in Tubberville, but even more so in Cox.

And even if he gets a few more losses this year, it has no effect on his career at Auburn, he has brought them on top and made them a consistent NC contender for the past 5 years and not to mention he has beat their rival 5 years in a row. He can have a few loosing seasons before they even consider it, but it is very unlikely Auburn will have a loosing season any time soon

I consider Tubberville one of the top coaches in the league, people have to realize So Florida is a good team that caught Auburn off guard.
We will see more DII schools upset a DI school because there is so much talent coming out of high school. Some of it is going to wind up at DII schools.
Let's wait until November before we judge a team. LSU lost 2 games last year with what looked like the best team in the SEC. I guess that is why we play the game instead of letting the " ESPN experts" just tell us who should win.

Ummmm, Did you actually watch this game? USF played like crap, Auburn just managed to play worse(No idea how they managed that). I know I have no credibility when talking about Auburn, simply cause I'm a Bama homer, but don't try to tell me that USF is some powerhouse football team. Auburn handed them the football game on 4 or 5 different occasions and it took USF until overtime to beat them(along with a little help from Tubby).

All true...but would you want to play them? I wouldn't...nothing to gain and everything to lose.

I went to the AU game last night and was very dissappointed at our teams level of play. I thought we would be able to bounce back from last weeks game vs K-state, but I guess not. The two main mistakes we kept making, in my opinion, were the play calling and honestly I think we need to take brandon out of there. Him and the receivers threw away nearly every chance we got to score. And why we decided to go for it on 4th....I have no clue.

No doubt. There are a few football teams out there like that. I would put Southern Miss and UAB in that category as well. I never said that USF is a horrible team, but they played horrible in that game and still managed a win. What does that say about Auburn?

We can agree to disagree and like you I don't quite share your view points on the matter. Like the announcer said last night about Cox. He made some great terrible passes. Of course what he meant was, him being a senior, he realize that not forcing the ball where there is nothing there, throw it in the cheap seats.
I agree with you about Tubs. He has built the Tigers to where they are. A undefeated season a few years back may in fact give him a free pass. But the point I was trying to make was, I don't care who you are of where you coach, with two time-outs in your pocket and 39 seconds left on a home scoreboard in regulation, you NEVER play for a tie and let that clock run down to zero. In the 2nd game of the season, and a team that's trying to find it's identity, you as a head coach send a negative message to you team that you don't believe in them. It would be different if field position were a factor, but in this case it wasn't. you try to convince me if you can that championship programs pull this sorta of Bush League Sideline calling. Urban Meyer doesn't, nor does Pete Carroll, and these are the two best coaches going today in NCAA football. Tuberville just showed his hand to the rest of the nation. Now he has fences to mend with players, fans and alum's.
I tell you this because I've gone through it as a fan. Houston Nutt's first couple of season's for the Razorbacks he came in as a River Boat Gambler. You never had a clue as a defensive coordinator of what he would pull next, then suddenly he became conservative. He lost something. Instead of playing to win, he changed as a coach due to pressure and played less talented team not to lose. That put Houston in the doghouse with fans with a burr in their butt. He's now working hard to prove critic's wrong and trying to make it right with new idea's and new personal.
So believe me. I would wish anyone the woes Houston Nutt has have to endured the last few years. It takes it's toll on a person no matter how strong you think you are. Tuberville is no different. Fans can decide your fate in this business.

We entered the 2nd week of football on this Saturday, Sept. 7th. And the fans across the conference learn some things they weren't aware of last week.

First, I think you meant Saturday, September 8th.
Secondly, in an "SEC Week 2 Recap," not to mention LSU's complete dismantling of another top ten team predicted to win the ACC was, to say the least, either blatantly rude or blantantly dumb. You porkers amaze me.

LSU indeed laid it to the Hokies. I had planned to switch back and forth beteen the Auburn/South Florida game and the LSU/VT game. However, with the early "dismantling" that LSU did to VT, I didn't watch much of it. The Auburn game was much more interesting to watch, unless of course, you were an LSU fan.

Good job by the LSU Tigers. Way to make the SEC proud.

Good point, the LSU/Virginia Tech game should have been a point of emphasis on an SEC recap, but it WAS commented on by our fans in a lot of other threads on the topic. However, point taken and yal are absolutely right. Hell you should take it as a complement really. Yal are so damn good that it doesn't even register when you completely dominate the #9 team in the country.

Anyway, congrats on the win again Tigers. You are the class of the SEC for now.

Tubberville is far from the Hot seat. Hell for all we know they could still pull out the SEC West, they won't, but still. And he's done way too much to make them a yearly contender for the SEC crown (on paper atleast) for them to get rid of him. I don't see how they could get anyone better than him (even though he does seem to fukk up a lot), I think changing coaches would turn people off of the program.
