The game starts in just about an hour and can't wait. Hopefully this will be a competitive game and USC and compete with UGA and pull out with a victory though I doubt it. I think USC will keep it close until the 4h quarter and UGA wins by around 10 pts. GOOO COCKS!

oh yeah that it right. we all know how you uga fans are bragging about how awesome that offense was against ok st. we're probably not gonna win but still we have looked much better already than we did last week. the uga O-line is struggling a lil against the usc dline.

lacene
09-08-2007, 05:33 PM
yeah, I thought it was a bit unnecessary....he could've hit the UGA player a bit higher than he did.

When I watched it live, it looked to me like he got him lower on the shins or around the ankles, instead of the thighs, so it wasn't as bad as I first thought...

geechee
09-08-2007, 05:33 PM
Well the first quarter purely goes to SC HOWEVER That chop block from behind at the end of the quarter is one of the cheapest shots you will see this whole season. That pure Steve Spurrier dirty ass football.

We were awesome against Okie St.

So after two bad drives, lacene thinks we suck all the sudden.

Made no sense.

round #3 for our O: not so good. We moved the ball at first, but stalled at the end. Hopefully our D is rested and will hold UGA's O down...

lacene
09-08-2007, 05:52 PM
well, round #4 for our D: not so good. Still, UGA drove further than they had yet, and only come away with a FG. USC still leads. Now we need to respond...

Round #5 for our D: well, I guess we're not really the South Carolina Gamecocks, without a few Keystone Cop blunders....

If we can cut out these unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, our defensive effort today would be outstanding, near perfect, even. But, we are the Gamecocks, after all....

Georgia's offense may be suspect this year. There are many other teams on UGA's schedule with defenses as good as Carolina's.
I like what I see so far with the Carolina run game also. However this won't be good for my pickems.

This one is a long way from over but we're wasting a ton of chances. I hope the "D" can get us the ball back here quickly because I feel like we're close to putting one in the endzone.

Ralliartist
09-08-2007, 07:11 PM
We need to execute on those 3rd down conversions. That's what is keeping us from opening this game up. Our D has to stay in it like they have been. GO COCKS!

Ralliartist
09-08-2007, 07:12 PM
If we can hold them here and then punch one in the end zone, you can stick a fork in them. Unfortunately Our secondary has given up way too much yards here.

GamecockinIL
09-08-2007, 07:12 PM

AuburnandGamecockGirl
09-08-2007, 07:13 PM
ugh! come on gamecocks!!! Georgia's game is finally on....we need to pull it together and keep our D alive...and capitalize when our O has the ball!

AuburnandGamecockGirl
09-08-2007, 07:16 PM
glad we held them to a FG on that drive. Ok, time for us to stop fooling around and get another TD. We have had some really nice plays, but unfortunately, they aren't happening consecutively. Time for a great drive here for a TD. Go Gamecocks!!

Seppeh
09-08-2007, 07:16 PM

UGA fans have nothing to be ashamed of. This was a hard-faught ballgame and the Dawgs still have the tools to make it to Atlanta.

This is going to be a fun year.

This game came down to one thing in my opinion, experience. USC had more experience and UGA did not have as much as us. The last two penalties really killed UGA and that showed the inexperience on the OL. It was a great win, well played by both teams. UGA played a hell of a game as you expect from a Coach Richt lead team. Hope yall beat UT!!!

Mike Bobo needs to go.

Wow.....talk about patience. It's one game man. I dont know how Richt would have called a different game plan than that. Give Bobo some time and that OL some time, you'll be fine.

Shot gun worked mostly all night long. I dont know why he didn't stick with it more.

now time to move to the Auburn thread....I hope that one turns out as well for me as this one did....although, not too promising after seeing them last week....

You know, on reflection it's kind of funny how the past two weeks or so played out. All off-season leading to the season, I felt that the Gamecocks would have a chance for a win against UGA, because Stafford didn't really impress me last season, their WR's couldn't catch, their defense lost so many veterans, and they had as many questions on their O-line as we did.

Then in game week #1, our team struggled more than we expected with UL-L, and UGA played very respectably against Okie-St. So, every one started talking that USC had no shot, and that UGA would blow out the Gamecocks.

Now, that the game is over, everything reverts back to as it should be. The Gamecocks beating UGA was never a sure thing, but we won. Stafford struggled. The UGA WR's dropped a number of passes. Our D was able to stand up to their O well all night, and our O was just good enough to get the job done.

So, I don't know what happened the last week or so, but I'm experiencing a bit of clarity right now..... :)

Yeah, it turns out that a lot of teams didn't play up (or down) to their potential in week 1. All except Michigan and Notre Dame of course.

Congratulations to both teams. Was definitely a great game right down to the wire, and a strong effort by both squads. The only negative that actually stood out on both teams were some missed balls that were catchable.

Once Jasper hauled that interception in, I yelled so loud that my two dogs in the room jumped to their feet and started barking like they had gone mad. That was a great feeling I hadn't had in quite a long time.

Where does UGA drop to in the polls? I think they go about #15-20 in that range somewhere and does USC get ranked this week? If so, where do you think we'll end up? I think we get #23 or so.

I hope everyone at least realizes we're playing a 5th year senior and no upstart 2 good-game sophomore has bragging rights....yet. It was a sloppy game that shouldn't have been as close as it was. The idea that Georgia was one play (the last play) away from winning it, is just awful. They didn't score a TD, they didn't move the ball well, with the exception of a couple long gainers, and we still let them hang in there. The only good news is that we held on to win over a QB that made about a third of his passes. We're crowing now, but I'll bet Spurrier points out where we really played sub-par tonight. LSU won't lose to the team we were tonight, IMO.

yall are definitely deserve to be ranked.

Boyd seems like a good RB that could transition well into pros, The Brinkley's are legit(to think they would have committed to UGA if we would have offered to both of them) and Mitchell made me a believer.

I think we'll be higher than #23. I'd guess around #17 or #18. However, I'm just guessing, and it may depend on what happens to those teams ranked from 15 to 25.

Well, UGA started the night at #11, and lost to an unranked team; so they'll fall farther than #15 for sure. How far will be determined by the outcomes of the other ranked teams.

I see USC peaking their way into the top 25 with a road SEC victory against a ranked team.

Great game. The dogs have nothing to be ashamed of. It was a great game. Our Offense should have played better that's for sure. But our defense shut all the crap up about them. They are a very strong D that's for sure. way to go cocks, 2-0.

This is nothing against you guys, because I think y'all played a good game, but no team breaks into the top 25 as high as #17. I think you guys should be definitely be ranked, but you will probably break in somewhere from 20-25 to begin with. I don't even want to think about rankings right now, right now the Dawgs have to fix the problems on offense before we face off with Saban at Bama.

Great win for the Gamecocks. Our defense looked awesome against a very vanilla UGA offense. Thank god they don't run that spread option crap.

Georgia just didnt have it tonight. Relyed on the D way to much, and missed opportunities was the story of the night. Props to the SC D for shutting us down in their territory. Hopefully a week of practice and a win against WCU will prepare us for the rest of the season.

Oregon will be ranked before the cocks; that being said, there were a couple top 25 teams that won't be in the top 25 come monday. Congrats to the Gamecocks, and hopefully Georgia can play better the rest of the season.

Looks like we were both correct. The AP has us #17 and the USA Today has us at #23.

On a side note, glad to see UGA stayed in both polls as well.

How in the world is Hawaii and Texas A&M ahead of USC. They both struggled like heck against horrible teams. A&M went to OT to win the game. Won't complain too much cause atleast we are ranked now hopefully we can stay in the polls for the reminder of the season.

Nobody really cares that much about early season polls anyway. No championships are won based on September rankings.

It will all shake out over the next few weeks and the cream will rise.

Congrats to the Gamecocks. They came to play on saturday for sure, and just like always.

I think the Cock pass rush early in the game really set Stafford back on his heels and made him not follow through on his progressions for the whole game. It was still in his head later on in the game when he started getting better protection. That is my take on why he threw some atrocious passes because he didn't set his feet when he had time to do so. Was rushing things because he didnt trust his protection. This also lead to throwing into coverage when there was a better option if he had just followed through further on his looks downfield. Kudos to the Cock DL. They really rattled Staff at the beginning and really screwed his head up for the rest of the game. It set the tone for the game imo. On the bright side, a chinck in the armour was exposed early enough for the coaches and Mathew to rectify and maybe have a great season yet.

The last posession of the game for the USC O was what really sealed the deal for the Gamecocks. If our D could have gotten a three and out at that point, the Dawgs would have had good enough field position and enough time on the clock to have a fighting chance. But y'all's OL just whipped our D's butt on those 3 10+ yard runs. That really surprised me, and it just proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that SOS had his boys better prepared and more ready to play than our guys were, plain and simple.

If you all played LSU this week, I would say you have no chance. It would be blowout city. I don't think that would be long enough to get it all pumped up again for that steep mountain. But SOS & Co. essentially have 2 weeks to prepare, so maybe you go down there and give a truely great team all they want.

One last thing. Our receiving corps had about 6 or 7 drops, with most of them at very crucial times during the game. To my mind, this wasn't very profound at all, because it is a very old story. Our wrs don't really run very good routes all the time either. Some changes need to be made.

Again, kudos to the Cocks. Your team played great. To all the Dawg fans on this board: We've still got a very talented bunch of players and great coaches (with a couple of exceptions). Each and every game is unique. Just because we lost this one doesn't mean that we can't win any game on our schedule. That's my take.

Because Spurrier said this:
"It wasn't like they were some big, powerful team," Spurrier said on his television show Sunday. "They've actually lost five in a row to Eastern Division opponents. Kentucky and Vandy beat 'em last year."
