a fight, just curious. Yesterday I heard on a sports talk show that "supposedly" Les Miles has pretty much got a deal with Michigan to become its head coach after this year. I admit, this could be a big rumor but I am just curious if you all have heard anything like this and, if you have, where is it originating from.

This has been mentioned on every sports talk show in the nation for the last week. We'll just have to wait till the end of the season to see what pans out.

i think it will depend on our season. if we lose 3 games, it would be in his best interest to move out of the state:laugh:

I think they were talking about that on the Jim Rome show on WJOX here in B'ham today. I missed most of it but I thought I caught something about Les Miles maybe going somewhere. It might have just been conjecture on Rome's part though.

When the season is underway, isn't it bad business to solicit another university's head coach?? Or, am I thinking of professional sports?? I mean, while the HC should be focusing on coaching the team he's got, to be focusing on bolting for another program instead is not too good. Am I right here??

There is no actual official soliciting going on. It is all rumor at this point.

Ask the ex-Auburn president (I believe) what happens when you court someone in the middle of season. Your whole situation there is summed up in Tuberville's exodus from Ole Miss and Auburn's attempts to hijack Petrino from Louisville mid-season. It's not right, and it's not good business. It does happen though.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Miles had a clause in his contract that allows him to go to Michigan without penalty. It seems to be a popular thing to include in contracts for coaches and their alma maters.

I've heard this, but I think it would be idiotic to force Carr out. I know they'd try to mask it as a retirement. But Carr is a cornerstone type coach in Michigan and has had much success, including recent success like winning the big 10 in 04, and a pretty great season last year, simply lost to 2 great teams. And its still very possible that they win the Big 10 this year.

I think he should be able to leave when he wants to, its not like they're winning 5 games a year like Joe Pa was a few years a go, he still has them as an elite program.

And By the way, how much as the Nick Saban hate helped Les Miles' stock? Im not saying he's not a good coach, not at all... but there were analysts and LSU fans saying he wasn't fulfilling potential and asking whether it was the talent the program has pulling him along for the ride. I mean many LSU fans were upset with him (some I know still don't like him), but they pull behind their coach when the supposed "a$$hole" Saban comes back to the SEC and for some reason its gotten the media behind him too (well that beatdown on ND did too). Im just hard pressed to see why people think its a good idea to get rid of a coach in Carr that has won with a program consistently for years for a guy that's essentially done what people are bagging on Carr for lately...not take his extremely talented team to the championship.

You can't ask him. He's dead.

The draw to Michigan will be strong for Miles, whenever and however it comes. To coach at your alma mater, where you played, where his idol Bo was, is going to be a strong pull on Miles. I suspect he'll go when the time comes. Unfortunately, he probably won't have the success at Michigan that he is having at LSU, given the recruiting monopoly he enjoys in Louisiana, etc. We'll be able to get a good coach. Maybe we can lure the Visor over here. (jkng. Gamecocks)

I think there is all this speculation just because Michigan stumbled last week. I wouldn't worry too much about it, yet.

Damn, I thought most rumors originated from Phil Fulmer's office.
