A radio station in Columbia is having a poll on who is the better coach between these 2. Right now Richt has double digits and Urban has a skunk. I would probably lean to Richt simply because he took over a less talented bunch, but on the other hand Urban has won everywhere he has been and has that little crystal football. I was very surprised at the lopsidedness of this poll especially since the main fanbase in the city is facing Richt tomorrow.

What are your thoughts?

Urban hands down - Never thought he could win it all in year two.

I'm a believer.

What are your thoughts? I am NOT surprised. The SC fans want to believe they are facing a better team than Florida. (in their dreams!)

I'd take Urban but Richt isn't too far behind him

We play Florida as well, so I don't see where that has any relevance.
We may need to talk in a few weeks if you are laying odds on the game formerly known as the WLOCP. In looking at UGA this week the reason I feel we have a chance is one of our biggest strengths, D-LINE, faces their biggest weakness, O-Line. When the Dawgs face UF I think that will turn into weakness against weakness. Also just because a team is better doesn't always mean the coach is better. For example, watch the coach you face this week. He is far from the worst in the conference, but his team is perennially near the bottom.

That was my point. I don't think it is that big a deal that Richt is winning as he has been there longer and Urban still has the stigma attached to his offense being able to hold up in the SEC even after a Championship season. The surprise to me is that it wasn't even close. Urban really impressed me last year winning without a true SEC tailback. If he can maintain that level with the loss of a senior quarterback and the majority of the DL he will have my vote as well.

urban won with a lot of zook's players which i don't fault him but he has dominated recruiting since he got there. not that richt hasn't but losing to KY and Vandy are unexcusable last year.

Mark Richt is 0-2 vs Urban Meyer head to head.
Mark Richt has beaten Florida only once since he took over at UGA.
As a HC, Richt is 1-1 in BCS games(none of which were a MNC game)
Urban Meyer is 2-0 in BCS games as a HC.(one of which was the MNC)

The only thing Richt's got over Meyer is 2 SEC titles to Meyer's 1. That will change with time.

But don't get me wrong...Richt is a helluva coach. The only thing with Richt is he's got that Florida monkey on his back but every coach at UGA has since 1990.

IMO both should be striving for what Tommy Tubberville has accomplished at Auburn. Correct me if I'm wrong but last weeks win over K-State made Auburn 36-5 out of their last 41 games! Impressive.

Of course you have a chance. Actually I picked SC to win in the poll! I think you will come up and surprise them. They are probably plenty worried about it, themselves. But I don't think Ga. can outcoach FL.

If you're going by stats, you really have to say Meyer is a better coach. I'm not sure what justification all those gamecocks are using. My guess is Meyer rubs more people the wrong way than Richt does. That's gonna factor into a dumb poll like this.

Meyer will probably never catch Richt in overall SEC wins. Not just because Richt has been here longer but because Richt's average looses per season are only 2-3.
Like I said Richt is a winner. But Florida(either zook coached or meyer coached) has been his Achilles heel. Compared to anyone else in the SEC...Richt is hard to beat.

Both are amazing coaches. Richt has that program ranked and possibly contenders every year. And while Meyer may have underachieved his first year (charge that to the coaching and system change), he won the whole thing in his 2nd year there in an underdog situation.

Richt does seem to lose a lot of big games. Like to Fla every year, lose SEC title games that could give him a shot to go to the NC game...lose to good teams that they should beat in bowl games. I have to go with Meyer.

WOW....initially I'd lean to Urban, but I think we really need to see a larger sampling from Urban. I think it's safe to say you know what you're getting with Richt. Obviously the early returns on Urban are staggering, but I'd have to reserve judgement for a couple more years!!

He's 2-1 in SEC title games. I dont know what you are trying to get at there.

True... but he still has yet to get to a NC game and he's definately had the teams to do so, just seems like he loses the wrong games at the wrong time that stop him from doing so. And again, they really should've beaten WV in 05. He's a great coach, that while I wouldn't say has underachieved, definately hasn't fulfilled his or that programs potential. 4 yrs ago, I'd have thought he'd have had a BCS trophy by now. And this year doesn't seem like the year.

I'd go with Richt due to my UGA bias. But Meyer is a great coach as well. I'd say if they both hang around for some years, the SEC east could comedown to the cocktail party about 90% of the time

Of course I'm gonna pick Urban Meyer!!!

But I can tell you this...Mark Richt is a complete class act...couldn't go wrong with either, IMO.

I'd be happy with either one and I'm happy with Richt. I love the class he has. No one can say a bad thing about him and the things he does for everyone not just his players.
