This from Dandy Don:
Below is my comparison of LSU and VA Tech, position by position.

QB: Matt Flynn of LSU and Sean Glennon of VA Tech both looked good at times and bad at times. In my opinion Flynn will enjoy a much better game this week playing in front of the home crowd and I believe Glennon will be affected by the LSU crowd. I also believe that Flynn is a better passer and is a threat to run. Advantage LSU.

RBs and FBs: VA Tech's starting running back Brandon Ore and backup Kenny Lewis are very good and might have more break away speed than Jacob Hester and Keiland Williams of LSU. However, LSU has more depth at running back with Charles Scott and Richard Murphy. But if the game is as close as expected, LSU fans might not see much of Scott and Murphy. Even.

WRs: Eddie Royal and Josh Morgan are three-year starters for the Hokies and have 4.5 speed. Early Doucet is a three-year starter for LSU and Brandon LaFell is a two-year starter. I look for Terrance Tolliver to steal the show for LSU. Advantage LSU.

TEs: VA Tech sophomore Sam Wheeler, 6'4, 255, is one of the best receiving TEs in the nation and is backed by highly recruited true freshman Andre Smith. Richard Dickson, Keith Zinger and Mit Cole of LSU are also very good. Slight advantage Va Tech.

OL: Virginia Tech is huge in the offensive line with three returning starters and all five of their starters weigh over 300 pounds. Sophomore Sergio Render, 6'3", 320, who is saying that he can pancake Glen Dorsey, is the Hokies best OL. LSU also returns three starters in the offensive line, Brett Helms, Herman Johnson and Ciron Black. Lyle Hitt and Carnall Stewart are LSU's other two starting offensive linemen. Slight advantage LSU.

On defense, VA Tech lead the nation last season in four defensive categories and returns eight starters from the 2006 defense.

DL: VA Tech uses a four-man front on defense and returns three starters in Chris Ellis, Carlton Powell and Barry Booker. LSU's defensive line returns All-American Glen Dorsey, All-American candidate Tyson Jackson and Charles Alexander. Kirston Pittman or Rahim Alem will start at the other defensive end. LSU has much more depth in the DL than the Hokies. Advantage LSU.

LBs: VA Tech has great speed at the linebacker position. Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall are as good as they come. Ali Highsmith is LSU's best linebacker. Darry Beckwith and Luke Sanders are solid. Backup linebackers Jacob Cutrera and Perry Riley might be as good as Sanders and Beckwith. Advantage VA Tech.

DB: VA Tech returns both starting cornerbacks in Victor Harris and Brandon Flower and free safety D.J. Parker. LSU also returns both starting cornerbacks in Jonathan Zenon and Chevis Jackson. Safeties Craig Steltz and Curtis Taylor played a lot in 2006 but are first year starters. Slight Advantage VA Tech.

Special teams: I think that LSU has the advantage on punt and kick returns and defensive coverage on punts and kicks. Advantage LSU.

My prediction is LSU 17-9.

I see key Defensive battle also. Will be a tight matchup with L.S.U. on top in the end I believe.
