Each week, Auburn defensive coaches closely track some statistical markers they consider critical to success. Here is a look at the defensive goals:
Win: YES, 23-13
Allow 13 pts or less: YES, 13
Allow 3.3 yards per carry or less: YES, 2.6
Allow 5.0 yards per pass or less: YES, 4.45
Create at least 3 turnovers: YES, 3
Allow no big plays (defined as 15+ rush or 20+ pass): NO on run (1); NO on pass (1)
Allow no TDs inside "red area": YES
Force opponent to convert less than 30% on 3rd down: YES, 28%
Also, KSU's YAC (yards after catch) number was 124
Auburn's defensive coaches track their players' individual levels of productivity closely. Points are awarded for good things, taken away for mistakes or loafing. Here are the Tigers' top 10 performers from the KSU game:

DE Quentin Groves, 24
CB Pat Lee, 24

Didn't you hear? We didn't beat K State. They beat themselves.

124 yards after the catch? i thought that was an average
btw-the most important stat is the win

Watching the game, the defense, save for the play of Quentin Groves, pretty much sucked. If you play like that against SEC teams, you're going to get plowed.

We missed a lot of tackles, no doubt, but that is definately correctable. If we can keep the same stats and decrease those YACs, our D will be one of the best in the country again. Not to mention, we dropped at least 2 sure INTs.

did you even watch the game?
Well, I was flipping back and forth trying to see UGA/Ok State and Tenn/Cal, so maybe I missed something great. But when I was watching, the D was not impressive, except for Quentin.

K State could move the ball somewhat using short slant routes. We suffered from a case of the "arm tackles" at times as well. Overall though the defense played like what you would expect an Auburn defense to play like. The Auburn defense gave up one touchdown drive the entire game and that came on a drive that featured three trick plays including the touchdown play.
K State realized quite early in the game that running against Auburn would be as effective as trying to cut steel with a plastic butter knife. So they simply kept on throwing the ball. Freeman attempted over 50 passes during the game. Most of these being the short slant routes. All in all, I think Auburn's defense played well enough that I feel good about putting them up against anyone on our schedule. If the guys on the other side of the ball can get their stuff together, Auburn should be in the hunt for the West or maybe more.

Although we have a lot of work to if we are to become a solid contender, the AU looked better on paper than on the field.
NCAA Football - Kansas State Wildcats/Auburn Tigers Box Score Saturday September 1, 2007 - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/boxscore;_ylt=AvK8172keLIrAqw6mUUP4RnyvbYF?gid=200 709010075)
"You don't come into a place like this and expect them to give you the game," K-State coach Ron Prince said. "We had a nice game going for a while, but that's the difference. You go on the road, it's like a heavyweight fight. You've got to knock the champ out. You can't try to get a win on decision."

To add to this, ESPN did a top defensive performances of the week and AU came in at #9
