It was a great thing to do, but really, most schools would have some type of tribute for a player on their team that passed away.

Yes, schools would do some type of tribute, but I'm not sure a lot of coaches would do it during a game. I would have never thought to do something like that. This one was all Pete Carrol, and it was very respectful.

Please, Carrol's about as classy as a beer-fart. First, any team or school would have a tribute for a fallen player... even if he'd gotten drunk and fallen off a cliff. Second, Carrol probably had very little to do with it. And, third, none of that diminishes all the recruiting violations and infractions he regularly commits. Give me a break. Great tribute, despite Carrol.

What reason is there to hate Pete Carrol, besides jealousy? He's never been an unclassy individual and I've never had any problems with him as a coach. I'm not to fond of his team, but that's mostly because they won't stop winning.

i remember him getting caught on tape screaming across the sidelines at Joe Bellotti to "Go F*&k yourself "after Oregon converted a fourth down. He then proceeded to run the score up to prove his point. I also loved how he was throwing the ball on fourth down on Ark when he was up a gazillion points. I also love how he avoids NCAA infractions with one of the most corrupt programs in the NCAA.

I'm a Buccaneers fan. Jon Gruden has done much worse than that during a game, and during practices, and during team meetings, and probably at family dinners. I guess I'm used to it, LOL.

Thanks. This is how I see the tribute unfolding: It sounds like something another kicker would come up with; so the kicker or holder presents the idea to the coach. The coach, being the POS he is, considers all the possible ramifications, at length, of allowing his team to take the 5-yard penalty and possibly missing the extra point. Then, after deciding that it wasn't very risky to do it (considering the opponent is Idaho, and it's likely just one of what will be several extra point tries that day), he gives the OK. Like I said, it was a fitting and poignant tribute... let's just not get all blubbery over Carroll. He's shown his true colors on more than one occasion. I only have to remember the loss last year to UCLA, and the Reggie Bush fiasco to know what kind of human being he is. And that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Since apparently this is common knowledge on message boards but hidden by ESPN, I have to ask for someone to enlighten me. What are these NCAA infractions that Carrol and SoCal have committed?
I've of course heard of the Reggie Bush deal, but that was between an agent and Bush's family. From everything I've heard that sounds like it had zero to do with him coming to SoCal and everything to do with this guy wanting to be his agent once he left for the NFL.
What else is out there?

What??? The same guy who defended Miles' retarded ramblings in the off season is gonna crucify a coach for getting emotional when he's caught up in the heat of battle?? You're gonna have a hard time finding ANY coach at ANY level who hasn't been guilty of the same and you are a hypocrite if your gonna judge him for that!!
If you don't like the guy, you don't like the guy, but don't come with lame crap like this!! He doesn't control what ESPN does, so you can't use that logic!! And let he who supports the squeaky clean program cast the first stone westward..... that's what I thought!!

Caroll has always struck me as a pretty decent guy!! More importantly, his value can be seen rather than heared!! Very rare in this day and time!! He gets points for that!!

All that is your opinion, too. And, regardless of whether or not "all" programs do it, that doesn't necessarily mean all coaches do, or are aware of it. Additionally, if it came out that Meyer was doing that, I'd be ashamed of my team, and would fire off some letters and e-mails "expressing" my displeasure and lack of confidence in the staff. And, the fact that other programs do it also doesn't relieve Carroll of the scrutiny he deserves for those actions. He doesn't get a bye because others are guilty of it. I'm an equal-opportunity hater, and am as abusive towards other programs I perceive as crooked... I hate Auburn, ThugU, and F$U, too.
And the ramp's right... it doesn't take a whole lot of research to find the plethora of shady dealings.

Another SoCal fan, and I can't blame you. They are awesome and their coach is fine and a very major reason why they are. We all know there is corruption in all the conferences. ESPN loves a winner. It is plain and simple. We will all live with that fact until someone upstages USC and ESPN turns their fickle love elsewhere.

Pete Carroll is a POS IMHO. The guy doesn't even "coach" his team because all of his assistants do it for him. He doesn't even put fourth 5% of the effort that all of the other D1 coaches do. Southern Cal has to be the most shadiest program in the country by far just look at the points brought up by Ramp and GU. People want to ridicule Troy Smith for taking $500 dollars from a booster and then paying it back while Reggie Bush took a couple hundred thousand and its no big thing. WTF? If you noticed, when the allegiations came up about RB, his family, and him possible losing his Heisman, ESPN said nothing to very little about this and it wasn't more than a week later that the sportswriters were hush-hush on this. So Cal has been corrupt since the 1960's when they secretly got donations from celebrities for recruting. Woody Hayes even called out the USC program about being corrupt after OSU beat USC in the rose bowl in 1974. No wonder USC getting all these recruits because they probably get a nice paycheck to sign a L.O.I.

good lord....just google it...from Joe McNight talking to Reggie Bush to John Papadakis to DeWayne Jarrett's apartment to Brandon Ting's steriods to Reggie Bush's parents house. Tell me he didn't know about any of this?
McKnight now denies that he spoke with Bush and that he misspoke. Probably BS, but doesn't sound like you're going to prove anything there. And even if you could, why shouldn't a kid be able to get the full story on possible violations. The source I read said it was a conference call where Bush explained the investigation into his dealings and explaining why it shouldn't be a problem for SoCal. Maybe that's against the rules, but it shouldn't be.
The Jarrett apt deal is total BS. Why should rich parents (Leinart) not be allowed to help with their kid's and good friend/roommate's rent? If this happened to any regular student would anyone think it was awkward? Again, maybe against the rules but one that all your schools can be breaking and I wouldn't care. It's not like the Leinart's were offering recruits free room and board or something.
The Ting brothers were taking steroids. They got caught, and they left the team. Again, how is this a negative for Pete Carrol? They didn't cover it up or let them play after the fact.
Bush's parents getting a house and what not is obviously an EGREGIOUS violation. He should be stripped of his Heisman and records during that last year should be taken off the books....but AGAIN, how is this a Pete Carrol issue? How often do you think Meyer, Spurrier, Miles, et al go to the family homes of their players after they've already been on the team? Yeah, not that often I'd imagine. So is really that hard to believe that Carrol didn't know? MAYBE he did, but no one has any proof.
The ONE example out of those you listed that I'll agree with is the Papadakis restaurant situation. Carrol had to have known about that one and was probably even there. Is it severe enough to label Carrol classless and SoCal the dirtiest program in the NCAA? Not at all in my opinion.
Out of the examples I've seen, if SoCal is the dirtiest program in the NCAA then D1 must be pretty clean these days. So I guess I hope they really are the dirtiest...it's just not as bad as some are making it sound.
