Blake lost his appeal and will not play on Saturday against ULL. Will he start against UGA or will Smelley step up and claim the QB job for good?

I think Mitchell will start. That could change if Smelley - or even Beecher - has a monster game against UL-L. But despite both back-up QB's improving very much during fall practice, Mitchell is still far ahead of both in experience and ability. What game play that Mitchell misses from not playing against UL-L will be countered by what experience against SEC opponents that both Smelley and Beecher will be missing when the Georgia game approaches. The Georgia game is too important for the season.

Of course, if Mitchell is unproductive at moving the offense and scoring, I expect that Smelley or Beecher would be brought in. If either plays well Saturday, I expect the hook to be even faster...

I don't think Mitchell starts unless Smelley and Beecher stink it up (hee hee). But if either of them are effective running the offense, then Spurrier won't start Mitchell. Mitchell will get his chance, but he won't be rewarded the start due to the stupidity of the whole affair. How he ever thought he could get the appeal approved based on the fact that, "no one told him he was missing too many classes," is beyond understanding for a 5th year.

It's a case of Mitchell simply not listening...again. The new policy went into place, Mitchell ignored it, and got fairly suspended, IMO. Spurrier has to be at the end of his rope with him and for that reason, I don't think Mitchell starts.

Smelley or Beecher will start. They may not get but one series, but Mitchell doesn't start.

Can I just say that I hope Smelley has a stellar game and wins the starting job for the rest of the year? Because thats what I am saying.
How exciting it would be to see Stafford, Smelley & Tebow face off this season.
With all the young talented QB's in the SEC this year its hard not to get excited.

But I'm afraid Mitchell will get seniority in this one and will start against UGA.

At this point it really doesn't matter what kind of game either Smelly or Beecher has against La-La, Mitchell will start against Georgia. It will be great to have a guy that can step in and do the job if something happens to Mitchell, but Mitchell has proven that he can do the job and he will continue to be the starter.

I think it will be Cade Thompson or Antonio Heffner.

Mitchell will be slated to start because he will have served his punishment and is still the best QB we have. Now if Blake screws up between now and then, then that's a different story. I'm kinda glad to see Smelley start and hopefully see alot of Beecher too. We need these guys to get game ready now because Blake is not a guarantee to be consistent all year.

I think they should just be done with Mitchell. He's a senior just be done and let him go on. Let Smelley be the starter for the season. It will be good for USC in a few years to have a 4 years starter. So by his JR or SR year he will be very experienced and give USC a big time shot at the SECC and NC maybe.

Hey, Ainge is a senior, isn't he??

Yeah, maybe ya'll should just be done with Ainge, just let him go on. Let Crompton, or Trent, or Colemon, or the other young QB's be the starter for the season. You know it will be good for TN to have a 4-year starter in a few years.

That's using your reasoning... :)

Difference between Ainge and Mitchell is that Ainge hasn't been in trouble and makes very good grades. Mitchell has been in trouble and decides he doesn't need to go to class. Thats using your reasoning :)

I'm not so sure Mitchell's doing so poorly with his grades, and neither are you. And you did seem rather happy that Coker was re-instated to your Vol's team - and I don't recall you calling for UT to be done with him, so I'll stick to my reasoning.... :)

Well obviously he's not doing so well since he's cutting class and I doubt he's a straight A student and Coker only a SO if he was a SR I would say get rid of him and let Lennon Creer or Daryl Vereen start.

so, your logic is if the player gets in trouble, but is a young, inexperienced player (FR or SO), then keep him, but if a player gets in trouble, but is an experienced player (5-yr SR), then get rid of him? And you're sure that Mitchell is in trouble because he cut classes, and not because - as he contends - he dropped a class, but failed to follow through on paperwork, and was counted as absent?

Coker has had issues with class attendance before, and now with the failed drug test(s). He's usually an annual resident in Fulmer's doghouse. But you welcome him back, and all that his future implies, but think we should get rid of a senior that's only had one (1) confirmed incident a year ago (throwing a punch), plus what he contends to be an error in paperwork this year. Okie doke!

Well then hes just a moron and I wouldn't want him leading my team.

Mitchell starts, but if he struggles Spurrier won't hesitate to put in Smelley. Hopefully, they both struggle. :)

"Error" Okie doke:thumpsup: What I'm saying is let the future QB of your football team get a year of experience under his belt that will help him in a couple of years instead of having a moron thats probally going to take you no where and has been a problem get his last year in. If Coker gets in trouble again I say kick him off and never let him come back. Let one of our freshmen get a year under there belt so they can become better and help us in a year or two.

lol, that may be totally true, but you forget a lot of really good football players are/have been morons!

At least Mitchell hasn't been getting caught up with guns, drugs, or keying cars. Only that one single punch, and not taking care of his classes. This is his 5th year at USC, not his 1st.

The rest of his teammates have proclaimed total loyalty in him, and total confidence in his abilities as a leader on the field. That says something, there...

Yep. It was there last year and it's sure there again.

I will be glad when Mitchell is gone. He has so much off the field trouble that always affects the team. For him to miss class that shows he is not dedicated. He will not start at UGA but he will come in if the first series goes bad.

I agree...Mitchell is getting in trouble with the law almost 3 times a week, and it's not stopping. I say we run Mitchell out of town, also that criminal Garcia, as well. He's only a true freshman - hasn't even played in a game yet - and he's already been arrested twice as often as Mitchell has! Run 'em all out of town!!
