Fifth-year senior Matt Flynn relishes chance as LSU starter
BATON ROUGE — Mom notices it in phone conversations with her baby boy.
Dad was there. He knows what he's gone through. Grandpa is not around anymore, but what he said long ago has come shining through. And the next door neighbors, Eric and Christy Evans of Rayville and Bastrop, respectively, made sure the boy went to LSU. Matt Flynn's four-year sentence is over. He's a free man on Thursday night when the No. 2 Tigers play Mississippi State on ESPN to open the 2007 football season, and Flynn is No. 1 ... finally.
There has been work detail over the years. Flynn has been LSU's holder for field goals and extra points for three years. There have been furloughs for good behavior here and there, but they mostly included mopping up. There was that one holiday pass in 2005 in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl, but just when it got good, the season was over and it was back to the No. 2 cell.
The wait is over now. It's his time, and it's about time. Keep reading the story here (http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070826/SPORTS/708260338/1006)
