Well, if it's true he just kissed his LSU career good-by. I'll bet miles sends him packing. He'll wind up at some juco or Div II school at best or just go sit in prison and after that start what will probably be a life of wasted potential.:headshake

You are right. Bad time for this to happen. The team doesn't need this kind of crap right before the start of the season. Did I read the link correct in that he is third string? If there is any comfort in the short term, at least he isn't a starter.

We dont need him badly this year. he would have probably started next year but I am sure we will find a good replacement.

And the only reason people are saying Scott beat Williams is because Scott is getting more reps. That does not mean he beat out Williams. Scott can take it up the middle. Williams can take it up the middle or to the outside.

Exactly. The kid is blowing his life.

On another note, I don't think Charles Scott is necessarily numero uno; Keiland Williams is still the man, I think. Also, there is Richard Murphy who looked mighty good in the spring game. The good thing is that it really doesn't matter from a fan point of view; any of the three can break it big time, any time.

I'm feeling good about any one of those three RB's in the game at any time. Also, I still can't believe guys like Odom who don't learn from the others before them that blow their opportunity to move ahead in life. Bummer for LSU, but big time bummer for them and their families!

Perriloux is always in trouble.

There's nothing good about the area that Odom grew up in. It, like most of Jackson, should be razed to the ground and started over.

Here is what I got from a LSU fan on another board:

Attempted Unauthorized Entry Into an Inhabited Dwelling

2 counts of Simple Criminal Damage to Property

Simple Assault

These charges stem from an incident that occurred at a Baton Rouge area apartment complex a couple of weeks ago.

Apparently, Ace Foyil, a backup linebacker, and another unknown football player got into a fight with two men at this complex. Friends of these two men jumped in and broke up the fight. Foyil and the other player felt that they had been "jumped" by these subjects and called other players to come to the complex in order to retaliate. Foyil and this other player were roommates who lived at this complex and the two men they fought were their neighbors.

A group of about 14 players show up in at least 4 different vehicles and demand that the group, who were now inside their apartment, come out and fight. The owner of the apartment, who was over 50 years of age, shows up and pleads with the group to leave. Odom attempted to break into the apartment in order to get to the group, but he was unable to force the door open after running into it. Odom damaged both the door and the door jam attempting to get in.

When he couldn't get in, Odom then began threatening the owner, (who was still outside), repeatedly telling him that he was going to kick his ass if he did not go inside and tell the group to come out. Odom then vandalized the owner's vehicle that was parked in front of the apartment, pulling wires from lights, letting air out of the tires and keying the passenger side of the vehicle. When police showed up, the players ran away.

As the cops were sorting out the mess, the owner pointed to a black SUV that was leaving the parking lot as being one of the cars that had arrived with the players. The cops stop the car and find that it is was driven by Xavier Carter. The car is registered to Ryan Perrilloux. Carter tells the police that he had been at the apartment but left when the cops arrived. Perrilloux was also there and left when Carter did. RP had Carter go back and get his vehicle so that he did not have to. None of the other players have been identified as of yet. RP is not being charged with anything.

The owner then makes contact with the ADs office immediately afterwards and was informed that Odom had already let the coaching staff know about the incident, but denied doing anything. The owner told them that all he wanted was for Odom to apologize for the threats he made and to pay for the damage he caused. If he agreed to do that, the owner would not pursue criminal charges. Odom was offered the deal, but refused it, leaving the owner little choice.

We are thin at LB. Odom was highly recruited and has lots of potential. Cutera (who's injured) is our only good backup. Riley and Sheppard are less talented but have filled in well enough i guess.

as far as a midemenor/felony comments...it doesn't matter. i do not make excuses for our players who make these stupid choices.

according to Buddy Songy: the LSU depth chart is Hester #1, Scott #2, and Williams #3 at RB. but he said they will all share time with about 7 carries a game each. another RB by committee looking for the "hot hand"

Why is Xavier Carter wasting his time with some of the worthless thugs on the LSU team and not getting ready for the Beijing Olympics next year? Good to know the country's top sprinter is trying to go out of his way to get arrested so he won't compete.

Sometimes something like this early season is better than mid-season. Coaches can at least have time to adjust, and they have the players attention the next time they harp on staying out of trouble.

Williams 3rd team? I thought he was the next great SEC RB? It's been my experience that RB by committee only means no one has stepped up.

i guess so. but getting a pack of players involved is just plain scary. i wonder what our standing in the Fulmer Cup is now.

the running back by committee worked last year but i was hoping KW would step up. he was a huge 5-star recruit coming out of HS and had a good freshmen year. charles scott is no slouch but he got hurt early last year and we only got glimpses of what he can do. hopefully we can have a 1-2 punch like you guys have.

I'd say this definitely puts LSU in the mix.

If USCe is suspending players for ditching class, they'd probably have this whole bunch publicly drawn and quartered.

It's always amazing when stuff like this happens during preseason camp. Like the deal at 'Bama. What were carloads of players doing out at 2 in the am? College kids will be college kids, but you'd think with the season fast approaching, the players would be more conscious of avoiding stuff like this. Makes me wonder about their priorities.

Charges against LSU player from Jackson might be dropped

By Glenn Guilbeau
Gannett News Service

BATON ROUGE — Misdemeanor charges against LSU football player Derrick Odom of Jackson might be dropped, according to a man who says Odom threatened him and damaged his property.

Steve Gaffney said Friday he and son, LSU student Austin Gaffney, are considering dropping the charges against Odom, a redshirt freshman who starred at Callaway.

“I’ll have a decision on Monday, and I may well have a statement on Monday,” Steve Gaffney said.

Odom was arrested on Thursday by Baton Rouge Police and jailed in East Baton Rouge Parish jail briefly before being bailed out Thursday night, according to a bonding spokesman. LSU football coach Les Miles suspended Odom on Thursday.

Odom was arrested for his alleged actions in the early hours of July 28, at an apartment complex. He was charged with threatening the Gaffneys, for attempted unauthorized entry into Austin Gaffney’s and two counts of simple criminal damage to Austin Gaffney’s automobile.

Baton Rouge attorney Nathan Fisher, who is representing Odom, and Steve Gaffney have discussed an out-of-court settlement that would involve Odom paying for the damages to the door of Gaffney’s apartment, which was damaged but not broken through by Odom, and for damages to the lights on Gaffney’s automobile.

“We’re hoping for a resolution as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Fisher said today. “I thought we’d have it today, but it looks like it will be on Monday. No court date has been set.”

Gaffney didn't want to press charges to begin with, but only wanted an apology plus compensation for the damages. Odom initially refused, which was dumb, so Gaffney pressed the charges. Sounds like Odom's lawyer was able to reason with him, or Odom just cooled down and realized what he was doing to himself....
