LSU picked up a huge commitment last night from 6'4", 195 quarterback Darron Thomas from Aldine Texas. Thomas received over 20 offers and chose LSU over Miami, Minnesota, and Oklahoma State. As a junior, Thomas passed for 1,000 yards, threw 16 touchdown passes and rushed for over 500 yards. Fox Sports News in Hoston broke the news last night. LSU now has received 16 commitments - see entire list here (http://dandydon.com/footballcommitments.html). (via Dandy Don)

I think he was recruited more as an athlete than just QB. I doubt he ends up at QB position.

Over Minnesota and Oklahoma State:brick: . Competing with these colleges for players really scares the $hit out of me.

Yeah, but you never know when you'll find the next Jerry Rice or Bret favre. A lot of good players get overlooked by the major universities and fall into the WAC, Sun Belt and Div II...

He ends up at WR. Hes been committed to us for a while BTW. There was still another QB on our board so the coaches kept his committ silent. We really dont need a QB this year. I think the coaches are saying he is a QB right now because we still have 3 big name WRs on our board(and we have great shots at all of them)- Brown, Tolliver, and Surrency.

I believe this guy had an offer from Florida, too. He stated in an interview the night he officially committed that LSU was the only team to recruit him as a QB, but he will likely play at WR. He absolutely lit it up at that position at the Oklahoma State camp.

I don't agree with the "could have gotten a better QB" comment, though. Watch his film. He reminds me a lot of Pat White. Now I don't think that type of QB necessarily fits LSU's system as of now, but who knows what type of QB Crowton is looking for. Also, remember that our QB situation this recruiting year is similar to our RB situation. We have several strong players at those respective positions who are strong leans to LSU, and picking up a good, quality QB this class could jeopardize signing these other kids in the next. I know that seems like a cop-out, especially after recruiting Manuel and Crist so hard, but when it comes down to it, not signing a big-time QB this class might work out in the long run.

I think it will definitely work out in the long run. Texas will have 3 major QBs next year and MS might have one too. Jacob Karam will be a 4* and probably a top 100 player and he is currently leaning towards LSU.

LSU's class will be sick next year. LA is loaded.

Michael Ford RB
Reuben Randle WR
Chris Davenport DT
DJ Banks CB
Montrell Conner ATH

3 of those guys are 5* star material and the other two are high 4* material. We should also get a couple of big name guys out of MS and TX. I think we are a lock for a top 3 class and have a GREAT shot at #1.

he got offers from USC and Flor. he wanted to go to LSU all the time (according to him at least). LSU was the only school to promise him time at QB and WR.

I am almost 100% positive that he did not get an offer from USC. He just stated that USC was one of his final choices, I guess to make it sound like he was heavily recruited by all the big-time schools.

"After missing out on other national quarterback recruits such as E.J. Manuel (Florida State), Dayne Christ (Notre Dame) and D.C. Jefferson (Rutgers), LSU landed its first commitment from a quarterback prospect in Thomas, who selected the Tigers over 20 other scholarship offers, including Florida and USC"

I think its a mistake. I dont think he got a offer from USC. They were looking at him though. Florida and USC were actually looking at one of the lineman at his school and thats how they found out about him.

I'll agree to that, but I don't want to go through 20 Demetrius Hookfins for 1 Jerry Rice IMO. But, I def. see your point.
