JUCO transfer CB Sam Pope has informed the Carolina coaching staff that he intends on leaving USC. I heard he's going to Hampton, which is up in Virginia. I hope he changes his mind, as the coaches haven't closed the book on him.

From what it sounds, he either didn't like not being a starter or only wanted to play corner and not safety. Either way it sounds kind of childish to me. He was the one who's position coach we were thinking about hiring from his juco.

yes it is, especially when it's placed against what Syvelle Newton did for the Gamecocks just one season ago. Pope is a junior, and he's transferring for the second time in his college career, just to chase after some personal golden goose. I say, good luck with that.......

I don't know how big of a problem I have with it. Like all of Spurrier's recruits, he was promised a chance. When he got here, he must have realized that the guys ahead of him were that much better than him. If he wants to make it to the NFL, then he needs to see the field, so I can't really blame him for going somewhere else. He's only got two years, so he doesn't have the same amount of time a freshman would have to move up the depth chart.
I wish him all the luck in the world, but I also think we're better for it. If he doesn't want to be here, then we don't need him here. Our secondary is going to be light years better than last year with or without him.

I didn't know that. Interesting. Where did you hear that?

I heard about it during recruiting last year. I'm pretty sure it was him. I guess his coach was never hired and I was just wondering if that had any impact on him transferring.

You're thinking of Chris Culliver. I'm not sure how that particular situation played out, but we weren't talking to anyone on Sam Pope's JUCO coaching staff about coming to Carolina.

:brick: I think you're right. I could've sworn it was a juco player we recruited though:wacko: . Seems like I remember the player being a defensive player and wanting to play receiver. So that only makes sense that it was Culliver. Thanks for the correction.
