The Oakland, Calif., product spent three hours in jail Friday afternoon before being released on a $1,000 bond.
Ward is in position to be the starting tight end for the Oklahoma State game on Sept. 1. Starter Tripp Chandler is facing a 1.2-game suspension after being arrested on an alcohol-related charge earlier in the summer.
Ward's arrest does not merit an automatic suspension as Chandler's did. Georgia coach Mark Richt evaluates the punishment for traffic violations on case-by-case basis.

This is really getting out of hand.
What is going on down there in Athens?

I guess the "license required" citation means he was driving without his license. That's the only thing mentioned that I feel is worth being jailed over, I guess. And even that seems harsh.....

It doesn't seem as bad as the AJC makes it appear, at least when you compare it to Caleb King.

Football player gets traffic ticket

Georgia redshirt freshman NaDerris Ward has been charged with overtaking and passing another vehicle on the right side of the road and with not having his driver's license, according to the Clarke County jail log.
Ward, 19, was released after posting $1,000 bond at 6:05 p.m. Friday, about two hours after he was booked into the Clarke County Jail, according to Clarke County Sheriff's Office records. Ward, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end, was arrested by UGA police.
Another Georgia football player, running back Caleb King, was jailed on a similar charge about two weeks ago. King was riding his Schwinn moped the wrong way down Sanford Drive on campus, according to UGA police. When a UGA police officer pulled King over, a computer check showed his license had been suspended in June.

You guys run a good, clean program with strong Christian values. I have to believe that Coach Richt will do the right thing and those players will be better for it. You're not Tennessee or South Carolina after all.

I've held my tongue because I know that this is not the popular view, but these driving arrests are starting to strike a nerve with me.
Am I concerned about a program spiraling out of control? No. But, how much sense do you have to have to know when you can and can't drive and what you are allowed to do on the road? You do not go out driving without......a......license. It's as simple as that. I don't know the details of the 'passing on the right' charge, but it is a valid one. If you're not supposed to do it, then don't do it. These guys deserve the hassle they get from driving on a suspended license, driving with no license, under age drinking, etc.
Having said that, I'm sick of the AJC making a mountain out of a mole hill. "Bulldog jailed after traffic stop"? Is it really THAT newsworthy to make a headline out of it?

This is stupid. He was "passing on the right" and got pulled over? I'd be questioning that as opposed to the state of UGA's program. What a bunch of pansy feces. Did he get sited for jaywalking later that day too?

Athens-Clarke nazis...they tazered some old lady for jaywalking on Saturday too...
The truth is, I'm setting them up...I'm the 42nd string tight end, so if I can get the other 40 TE's busted on traffic violations, I'll get to play against Okie State!!!

maybe it was only a two-lane road, and the right side was a sidewalk full of pedestrians.....

you can get arrested for that? why are these cops on such a crazy power trip. I'd be annoyed if I got pulled over for that. I'd be absolutely furious if I were arrested. I pass on the right 5 times a day. This is ridiculous!
