NCAA: Oklahoma must forfeit 2005 season

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma football program must forfeit all wins from the 2005 season and will lose scholarships as a result of players being paid for work they had not performed.

The penalties, announced Wednesday by the NCAA, stem from a case involving two players, including Sooners starting quarterback Rhett Bomar, who were kicked off the team for being paid for work they had not performed at a Norman car dealership.

Oklahoma permanently dismissed Bomar and guard J.D. Quinn point when it was determined they had knowingly and willfully been involved in receiving payment for work not performed. A third member of the team had been previously dismissed by the university for violations of team rules.

It would be a delight if they had to forfeit the 2004 season (USCw)

Delight for sure, but justice....definitely.

Actually, I believe they are vacating the wins, not forfeiting them.

(i.e, their record will be 0-4-0 instead of 0-12)

Call me stupid here but what is the NCAA's definition of "vacating" games?

They take away wins as opposed to adding losses....stupid.
Unlike what happened to Bama when they had to forfeit an entire season.

Interesting. That sounds more like a loop hole than an actual rule though.

About the same time Bomar and his OL friend were making $775/hour or so, Adrian Peterson was out driving around in a brand new Lexus coupe. NCAA gets wind of it and comes in to find the car dealership he got it from is owned by a Sooner Boosters member. Busted, right? Oh no, the dealership owner tells the NCAA that he was "just loaning AP the car" so he could "TEST DRIVE" it for a couple weeks to see if he wanted to buy it!

When the NCAA talked to the Dealer, he said that was standard practice for him, and he allowed customers to do that from time-to-time....yah, sure buddy. At any rate, the NCAA heard this story and said....."Okie Dokie! Sorry to bother ya!"

I'm tellin' ya, infractions like these and the ones they never have or will investigate at Southern California are like roaches. When you see one, you just have to assume there are many, many more you don't see. The NCAA just chooses which programs to really go after and which they just 'question'.

Crock o' dung, IMO. :brick:
