Even though he was hurt some this year, Chipper still leads the braves with 15 HR's this season. Hes batting .329 and leads the NL in batting avg on the road.
Last night he tied Dale Murphy on the all-time Atlanta Braves HR list at 371 & then passed Murphy hitting HR # 372.
The top 4 Atlanta braves HR leaders are as follows.
1. Chipper Jones
2. Dale Murphy
3. Andrew Jones
4. Hank Aaron

Congrats to Chipper. Just hope he can stay healthy and help this team win.

Uhm, didn't Hank hit 733 with the Braves? Or are you just counting the Atlanta years?

Its the Atlanta years. Aaron only hit about 330 Hr's in Atlanta. Check out the braves website to find out more.

Also I forgot to add chipper reaching 2000 hits this year. Hes up to like 2023 now. Its a shame hes been plagued with the injury bug so much in his career. He would have reached 2000 hits early last season.

Even with the injuries he is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame.

Even with the injuries he is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame.

I wouldn't say shoo-in, so much. If so, it will be based on his achievements as a switch-hitter, which in that light are pretty good. He's only 35, which means that he could play up to - maybe into - his 40's. He's always been a sure-bet contact hitter and run-producer, with great power as well. If he can ever get out onto the field, usually he produces immediately.

But it's been getting to the point where his feet and legs are as fragile as Tiffany crystal, and now recently he had issues with both his wrists being injured from a collision. He was hoping to play 150 games this season, but that's now shot. If his injuries continue, it could be another scenario similar to what Murphy went through at the end of his career. He hasn't made it into the HOF yet, and probably won't.....if Jones winds up having a number of 20+ HR, 80+ RBI & R seasons, or less, instead of 30+ HR, 100+ RBI & R, then he may retire with not enough career stats to warrant the induction.....

i think he will definitely be in the hall of fame. He's one of only three switch hitters to reach 2000 hits, 400 doubles, and 350 homeruns. I know Eddie Murray is in the HOF, I don't know about Chili Davis (the other two to accomplish that feat). I just think he is a definite HOFer, even if he puts up those kinds of numbers you mentioned late in his career.

I hate to say it because I've always been a braves fan but Chipper's days are numbered. Hes getting the joint injuries and thats not good. And as lacene said hes as " fragile as Tiffany crystal ".

I think he's borderline HOF right now. I definitely want him to make it, but the numbers are on the cusp. Unfortunately, the numbers would probably be a lot better if he had been healthier.

If you look at the 10 3rd baseman who are in the hall of fame right now, chipper ranks 1st in slugging percentage, 2nd in OBP, 3rd in homeruns, 6th in RBIS, 6th in Total bases, 6th in stolen bases.

Edit: I just noticed that these numbers are a year behind. So add in his totals thus far for this year and he probably has moved up in some areas.

Also, with a minimum 5000 at bats to qualify, 13 players finished their careers with at least a .300 average, .400 OBP, and .500 slugging percentage.
1. Ty Cobb
2. Rogers Hornsby
3. Tris Speaker
4. Ted Williams
5. Jimmie Foxx
6. Babe Ruth
7. Lou Gehrig
8. Edgar Martinez
9. Stan Musial
10. Mel Ott
11. Hank Greenberg
12. Arky Vaughan
13. Larry Walker

And still active along with Chipper are Frank Thomas, Bobby abreu, and Manny Raminirez.

Just missing from the list are Joe Dimaggio (.399 OBP) and Barry Bonds with a .299 Average (although he can get that up)

Not bad company.

I've often considered that if his on the field health issues became so much of a problem that the Braves let him go (not likely) he could have reasonable success in the AL as a designated hitter. He doesn't really have the 50+ HR a season power, but he'd be a great DH who doesn't strike out much.

Once again, very unlikely, but just a thought.
