I used to run a help desk for a fairly large company so even though I'm not doing that kind of work anymore, I still tend to know enough about computers to have all my family & friends ask me to help them out with fixing them, upgrading them, fixing them again...you get the idea.
I'm sure I'm not alone on this site when it comes to doing shtuff like that so let me speak for all that do when I say this:
Compressed air is all it takes to clean out the inside of your computer!! (http://picasaweb.google.com/ricapar9x/DisgustingComputer?authkey=vGvvyDFgceU) :brick:

Geez, Wayz, I wish I would have called on you! I just got through replacing my operating system, and I had hell every step of the way! Everything that could go wrong and not work, did just that. But somehow, I got through it and I am in the process of restoring all of my software. My sound card is still not functioning, but I am going to go to the H-P website and see if I can find the right drivers.

The biggest problem is software, that is if you have something that is more than one version old the software makers don't offer a vista patch because they want you to buy the lastest version.

Quick question about compressed air ...(cept for GH, who's gettin it ON)......should I be worried about the small amount of liquid that comes out when I'm spraying? I don't want to soak anything pertinent
Ok, ok, go ahead and get your Beavis/Butthead laugh out of the way then go back and read my 'intended to be serious' question.

You should be fine just keeping the can and it's spray tube a good ways away from the case. If you're really worried, just turn your computer off before doing it.

Keep it at least 6 inches away from the surface you are spraying. I always recommend wearing a static bracelet or holding on to the case when you are tampering with stuff inside. The littlest static spark can fry your whole board. And of course, always turn the thing off before you pop the case. :brick:

I didn't go with Vista. I went from XP Home (which crashed and burned) to XP Pro. I had no success in getting my sound card working after visiting the H-P Website and downloading every driver I could find. My machine says that I have no audio devices. I've checked my speaker connections, and even connected another set of speakers just in case, but no luck. I'm thinking my sound card must need replacing. Any helpful thoughts??
Thanks!

Yea, Drink more beer and quit worrying about your PC. That advice is, of course, free of charge. HAHA

I have a friend who does remote server work and he is always quick to point out that nobody asks a plumber to come over and work on your plumbing for free...but everybody wants free computer help.

Geaux, I ran into the same thing, but on our older computer (I gave it to my daughter). I just haven't had the time to call about it. I have tried reformatting and even adding a sound card, but to no avail. I'm curious to know about your situation, I'll send you a pm.

If you can't understand Windows, you definitely can't understand OS X. The way to do things on it is completely backwards to conventional logic. Besides, OS X crashes more than Windows Vista. I love my MacBook Pro.

Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise
My husband is a competitive eating champion. When he comes home from events where he has been on the road for days, I notice deep dried gravy stains on the from of his overalls. Do you have any helpful hints for a wife who is at the end of her cleaning rope?
