The Chili Peppers are my favorite band of all time. They are totally unique in their sound and it should be noted that they have fun with their music, I'm so sick of all the depressing crap that is coming out these days in the rock world.

I can listen to these guys until I die. It's amazing as almost all of their guitar/bass solos are straight improvision. It blows my mind how they can do that. As a guitarist I'd kill to have 1/10th of that ability.

Here are some of my favorite RHCP songs. I think this thread is a great place for people to learn about bands/songs they may not have ever heard before. Go ahead and give these a listen, you won't be disappointed.

The second solo in Comfortably Numb is the best ever written. It took a while to learn but I have a great time playing that masterpiece.

In no particular order:

The Shins - one of my new favorites, they're awesome

Wilco- This band is really growing on me

The White Stripes - liked them before they split, and like them now that they're coming out with new stuff

Robert Earl Keen Jr. -Texas music, not really mainstream - check out his live stuff, if I had to pick a number 1 out of this list, REK would be it. He's an AWESOME songwriter, and his voice "fits" his style of music. You pretty much either love him or hate him, his music doesn't appeal to everyone...but I think he kicks a$$, and he puts on a hell of a concert!

Smashing Pumpkins - No explanation needed....it's the Pumpkins!

Elvis - The King

George Strait - I hate the new-age country, but love the one's who keep in touch with the roots - King George is the best

My musical tastes are kind of all across the board...

My all-time favorite is Reel Big Fish. I was really into ska back in the day, and RBF is one of the few bands that I really keep up with from back then. Their music is fun, catchy, and well written. Plus, their live shows are awesome.

Other than that I like Minus the Bear, Andrew Bird, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, My Morning Jacket, Elliott Smith, Arcade Fire. I could put up a huge list but I'm pretty lazy. Theres a lot of good new music out there once you take the time to turn off the radio and discover it on your own

Man, I used to listen to NOFX a good 5 or 6 years ago but haven't heard any of them since. Didn't know they were still around.

TOOL is far and away number 1 on my list. I've seen them twice this summer, and I'm seriously considering going to #3 in a couple weeks. If you've seen them live you understand, and if not I highly recommend it. The lyrics are either emotional and meaningful or twisted and funny depending on the song. The drumming is phenomenal. The bass lines are unique, and the guitar riffs either perfectly compliment the others or take control of the song bringing it to heights.

Other favorites:

Smashing Pumpkins (gonna see them at the Orange Peel on 6/29)
Pixies
Radiohead
Zeppelin
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Yo La Tengo
The Melvins
System of a Down
Primus

I don't like their ska stuff at all, but thank God that's only a few tunes.

They're a Memphis band with ties to Ark I've been obsessed with for the past 7 years. It's really opened me up to Alt-Country.
I don't have their latest CD though, it was kind of a let down for me.

I liked the first offspring album, not so much the ones after that. They got poppish. I forgot to mention Self. Matt Mahaffey is the lead singer/guitarist. He is the voice of the Expedia.com commercial. They had that song on Shrek stay home. Now he's teamed up with the guitarist from God Lives Underwater and they have a project called Wired All Wrong which is excellent as well.

I really dig their ska stuff, but its different strokes for different folks I suppose. I didn't really enjoy their last album much at all. Not sure why. Punk in Drublic or SLATFATS are definitely my favorite albums by them.

Is Lagwagon still around?

Punk in Drublic is a great one....and, yeah, Lag just came out with a CD: Resolve, but I much prefer Blaze of their latest releases.

Let's Talk About Feelings is my all-time fav Lag CD, though.

great call on J5... I'm pretty picky when it comes to hip hop, but Jurassic 5 is damn good. You should check out Ugly Duckling, they got a good old school vibe..

Let's see.

AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Godsmack, Deftones, ICP (It's a vice), Erykah Badu (technically she's not a band, but she was part of the Roots), and a bunch of others.
