Drinking and driving claimed the life of Diego "Chico" Corrales May 7th. When all the statistics are in, alcohol is the cause, or is a factor in 40% of all deaths that aren't from natural causes. How can that be? When someone drinks, and decides to go for a spin; then kills themselves (or someone else) in a crash, the cause of death is listed as the crash. Blunt force trauma, or internal injuries. When someone is in a fight or domestic dispute, the cause of death is listed as homicide. They don't say the participants died from being drunk and stupid. When someone falls off a ladder or scaffold while working, it's an accidental death. They don't mention that the worker had been working after having a 6-pack for lunch. Studies of the events surrounding deaths bear out these facts. Corrales is just another example of this. The following story tells of his blood alcohol being .25, more than 3 times the legal limit at the time of the crash: ESPN - Police say Corrales was legally drunk before crash - Boxing (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2902353)
It's not uncommon for people to die of accute alcohol poisoning at .30.
