Wow...Steele praises himself as having the "#1 prediction mag" but the only time I seem to remember him coming close was 2003 with LSU...
Last year, I think he had my Gators 9th.....
As usual, he takes the "safe choice" and put USC #1.....this is the 3rd or 4th year in a row he's done that, isn't it?
Anyway, I put little stock in preseason mags...but that top 20 of his deserves comment...Oklahoma 3rd? UF 14th? and really, UT at 25?

I like the # 17 ranking for Bama, that puts us at about 10-3, we'll see. Also, I see only 2 things that really stick out to me.
1 Quentin Groves 3rd Team Defense
2 Simeon Castille 4th Team Defense
Both are 1st or at least 2nd team talent.

I feel auburn is vastly underrated this year by the media. Which is fine, but don't be suprised when we pull off upsets against the likes of alabama, georgia, florida, lsu, and south florida.
Also, having southern miss 8 spots ahead of us is a joke.

This is the first time I've seen anybody rank Auburn this low for the 07 season. Most people I have seen have them in the 10-20 range, finishing 2nd in the West. I also think AU will more than likely be favored in the games against Bama and South Florida.

Problems I see:
Oklahoma at #3
Florida State at #8
Hawaii at #12
South Carolina at #13 (ahead of Florida??)
Tennessee at #25 (too low for the Vols)
Auburn at #41 behind the likes of Hawaii, Missouri, UCLA, TCU, Arizona State, Miami, Rutgers, Memphis, Southern Miss, BYU, Purdue, Oregon St., and OKlahoma St.
Western Michigan and Troy in the top 50
1 SEC team in the top 10
King Dunlap on the 3rd team offense
Auburn 8th in the SEC, ahead of only Mississippi, Mississippi St., Kentucky, and Vanderbilt

He recognizes the talents of Keenan Burton and Rafael Little, but not Woodson...for shame. He will by season's end.
Anyway, I've never been in a position to really argue that Kentucky deserves a spot amongst the preseason rankings in football....but in a list of 50....we certainly deserve some merit. If it were basketball I'd be irrate, but knowing our past track record at letting games get away...I'll be happy to sit on it and see how things turn out. This is the most excited I've been about a UK football season since a guy from Leslie Co. by the name of Tim Couch signed to play here.

C'mon now....UK is going to beat Vandy...that's a non-issue. You have Tennessee as a toss-up and Georgia, a team we beat last year an can again this year, as a definite loss.
I'm not predicting the world for Kentucky...but Vandy isn't going 7-5. I don't think you guys realize just how much of last year's team is returning. Kentucky is gonna go somewhere between 8-4 and 6-6. I'm expecting 7-5. We can't take a step back and 'round here, tying last years record is a step forward, if it was a winning record.

I was feeling good about his prediction of LSU #2 until I saw where he put the rest of the SEC teams. Lost his credibility with me.
The Barn at #41 and Arky at #37 is crazy. Phil must have been distracted when he got to those two teams. Bama at #17; they must of gotten major Saban points----way too high for Bama this early on. I still "think" the SEC has three top ten teams, not one. All the teams below could easily be in the top 25.

You're right, I think, about ranking most SEC teams too low.
But, in Phil's rankings, there is a clash of two Top Ten teams in the second game of the year: LSU vs. Virginia Tech (at night, in Death Valley).

38. Notre Dame
40. Oklahoma State
41. Auburn
42. Georgia Tech
Items of note :
(1) Notre Shame is Number 38
(2) Georgia is the 2nd highest ranked SEC team, behind only LSU - presumably then, SEC Championship Game opponents ?
(3) There are exactly 2 ACC teams ranked at all in the Top 25.
(4) There are Six (6) SEC teams in the Top 25.
(5) Auburn is Number what ? I do not believe that Phil Steele (Most accurate of all preseason polls every single year for the last 5 consecutive seasons in a row.) is very impressed with Brandon Cox. Auburn is Number 41 ? Huh ?
This is much like in NCAA Baseball going on right now that The SEC is kicking the ACC's butts - not only head -to-head (SEC is undefeated in Baseball Games against the ACC and removed Top 8 National Seed Florida State yesterday along with SEC beating the ACC both Saturday and Sunday in the quest for the Super Regional Games this up-coming weekend to determine the 8 seeds in the College World Series) but also :
SEC 14-3 Baseball NCAA Regionals
ACC 11-8 Baseball NCAA Regionals
http://www.ncaasports.com/baseball/mens/scoreboard/div1/div1/20070603/30000 (http://www.ncaasports.com/baseball/mens/scoreboard/div1/div1/20070603/30000)
Every year, they tell us how much better the ACC is than The SEC is EVERY sport then, we kick their fannies from pillar to post in that sport too.
Did you have a URL Link to this post ? Or, did you type it from the magazine BAMAPERRY ?
I’m not suggesting that you typed it wrong or nothing BAMAPERRY that Auburn is Number 41, but by refusing to provide the URL Link to what you purport to be a faithful presentation of the most accurate preseason poll every single year, you lose credibility BAMAPERRY.

Point 1: Beating any of these teams would hardly qualify as a major upset.
Point 2: Looking at the teams ranked between 25 and 41, I didn't see but one or two that Auburn couldn't beat the living dipsh*t out of. The others would be close games, but I still think AU would be the better team.

You just joined what ? What you have posted 267 posts here, and The College EndZone forum has presently zero (0) members and (2) guests with no posts of substance.
As for Georgia losing 4 games, well we lost 4 last season at 9-4 and we already are well-aware of the fact that you said SeanVol that you see no losses you can predict for UGA this season, but failed to put up your record when pinned down on it by me in subject post of same you fueled yourself the last time you said UGA you can predict no losses for all season.
By the way, 9-4 is the most popular choice for UGA this season, but that hardly leaves UGA the 2nd best team in The SEC this season and certainly will NOT be Number 11, if we do go 9-4 back-to-back after having had our worst season in the last entire Decade last season at 9-4 with losses to Vandie and Kentucky.
You are not a vols’ fan SeanVol, but then again, who is anymore ?

I'm glad Steele is accurate because he has PSU at #10! Right on!
Well, we agree on one thing that we share hated teams in Notre Shame with their soft schedule and no defense who did not deserve a BCS Bowl Game, has lost all their BCS Bowl games in huge blowouts 4 in a row and who has lost every bowl game since 1994.
Penn State ?
PSU ended up ranked worse than UGA last season at Number 24 in the Final AP Poll.
In 2002, Penn State ended up ranked Number 16 again worse than UGA at Number 3.
And, of the 10 consecutive years that UGA has been ranked in the Final AP Polls, Penn State was only twice ranked ahead of Georgia in 1999 when UGA ended up Number 16 and Penn State Number 11 and 2005 when UGA finished in the Top 10 and Penn State finished better ranked than UGA also in the Top 10.
As UGA finished better than Penn State in 1997 and 1998 as well.
So, of the last decade of football with your Joe Papa holding on to outlive Booby Bowden (I loved the Senile Bowl a few years ago.), Penn State only twice (both of those barely) have finished ahead of SEC Georgia Bulldogs, while UGA have been ranked all 10 consecutive years in the Final AP Polls, Penn State has been NOT ranked at all the Decade of the 2000 to present ahead of UGA at all except for 2005 barely and State Penn have not been ranked at all 2004, 2003, 2001, and 2000.
Past AP Polls (http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/past_AP_Polls.htm)
Senile old coot has not made UnHappy Valley, happy. And, then there is you.
Alone.
We note that you do not claim to be a Joe Paterno fan, but a State Penn fan.
Neither Booby Bowden nor Joe Paterno have done a thing since 2000, and in Booby Bowden's case, it coincides directly with the date 20 December 2000 when Coach Mark Richt took this gig here at UGA.
Senile old coots should retire instead of crapping in their pants on the field with men.

Tell us some more about basketball, where Florida has won 2 NC in a row and Kentucky tried to hire Billy Donovan ?
"Georgia, a team we beat last year and can again this year"
BS.
Kentucky had no business beating UGA last season and if our QB brought into the game to waste every possession, turn the ball over and score no touchdowns, had not been in his rookie season, you would not have had the chance you had as time expired. That and the field goal.
Junk.
Kentucky is 11-47-2 vs. UGA and have not beaten us 'Tween The Hedges since 1977, 30 years ago.
Kentucky is a joke and none more so than your posts in this thread quoted for all to recall.
BS.

I feel auburn is vastly underrated this year by the media.
Which is fine, but don't be suprised when we pull off upsets against the likes of alabama, georgia, florida, lsu, and south florida.
Also, having southern miss 8 spots ahead of us is a joke.
Actually, Auburn is NOT vastly underrated by the media :
(1) Auburn is ranked Number 14 by Rivals (UGA # 12).
2007 NCAA Division I FBS football rankings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_NCAA_Division_I_FBS_football_rankings#Preseas on_polls)
(2) Auburn is Number 14 in College Football News (UGA # 12).
(3) Auburn is Number 11 in CBS Sportsline.com (UGA # 20).
(4) ESPN has Auburn # 20 (UGA # 16).
(5) Sports Illustrated has Auburn # 16 (UGA # 19.)
(6) National Champs.Net also has Auburn # 16 (UGA # 23).
(7) Athlon has Auburn # 21 (UGA # 16).
(8) Lindy's has Auburn # 23 (UGA # 17).
2007 NCAA Division I FBS football rankings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_NCAA_Division_I_FBS_football_rankings#Preseas on_polls)
So, of the 8 polls shown in Wikipedia AVERAGE PRESEASON POLLS Auburn is ranked in EVERY Poll shown there today.
"I feel auburn is vastly underrated this year by the media."
So, that is absolutely NOT TRUE now is it ?
Maybe what this forum needs is more URL Links ?

I found a URL Link for the stolen property of Phil Steele by this thread's author, who provided no URL Link to his post :
phil steele predictions: top 50 & sec picks (ps - he likes the gamecocks) - CockyTalk (http://www.cockytalk.com/showthread.php?s&threadid=38429)
This poster, on this same forum software, also provided no URL Link.
Apparently, Phil Steele wants two hundred dollars for this information stolen to make this thread and the thread on CockyTalk a South Carolina Fans' discussion group that only has posts by just only Cock fans.
By the way, if Falcons' QB Michael Vick lost his job to Air Tran as their spokesman and dog fighting is illegal except for a certain Washington Redskin player supporting Vick, what the hell is the difference with THAT and Gamecocks being put up on a Pedestal as even the team's mascot and name for the South Carolina Gamecocks ?
Obviously, the fallout should be that (1) Vick is suspended for a long long long time moving DJ Shockley up the Depth Chart to # 2 and (2) South Carolina must be forced to get rid of that animal rights nickname they glorify with hens fighting each other.

Whats your point? You got to have players to play the game. Arkansas's redshirt sophmore TB Micheal Smith averages about 7 per carry and Arkansas has never had a problem getting great tailbacks. The receiving corp that is sophmore's this year is considered by everyone to be the best group in Nutt's tenure but they are unproven right now but will gain experience this year. Those are all great players you mentioned but hell every good team has got good players. Our D coordinatoor say's that M. Sheppard is better right now that J. Anderson was so I think UA is in great shape.

GT's defense is about as good as VT's and GT gets VT at home. Also, GT has a much easier ACC schedule this season. GT also returns a solid O-Line and the 2 time leading ACC rusher. VT will be the favorite, but LSU is the favorite in the SEC and I don't think anyone is writing off thier opponents.

....and to think....I pointed out the other day that some Bammers still claim, "we were innocent".
The biggest difference I can think of is that UT fixes their problems by destoying lives (Linda Bensel Meyers, Tom Culpepper, Ronnie Cottrel, Logan Young, etc) when it serves their own ends. (UT boosters in the Memphis area aren't called "The Memphis Mafia" for no reason.) We had Gene Marsh running the show with our tiff with the NCAA and he threw us under a bus. Everyone in Tuscaloosa knows it, but no one has threatened to kill him. LBM should be so lucky. You clowns don't know how lucky you are to have a state media that pretty much covers your asses as well as they can and WE have a state media that beats a path to be first in line to crucify us (and Auburn, too.) Tee Martin was caught. There was an indisputable paper trail tying him to a UT booster. The NCAA says that she isn't a booster, and therefore, the money she gave Tee was legit. Everybody knows this is complete bullsh*t, but they got away with it. Have you ever stopped and wondered why UT is called "Teflon Tennessee?" I have never claimed our hands are sparkling clean. Whose is? Fulmer? Roy Adams? Please. But no one has ever provided the "smoking gun" in the Logan Young trial, who, by the way, would have gotten his appeal if he hadn't found a way to trip on some stairs and wound up with wounds on his face that made him practically unrecognizable. There is a hell of a lot more to all of this and everybody knows it. Just because I remain skeptical of what we were told to believe without a shred of tangible evidence, however, doesn't mean I claim innocence of everything.
