In your opinion, which reciever will have the best season in 2007? This upcoming year could produce another great WR class.
Limas Sweed - Texas
Mario Manningham - Michigan
Early Doucet - LSU
Percy Harvin - Florida
DeSean Jackson - California
Adarious Bowman - Okla St.
Derrick Williams - Penn St.
James Hardy - Indiana
I vote Percy Harvin - Florida

Good thread, I have to go with Mario Manningham from Michigan. Michigan lost WR Steve Breaston and return their QB Chad Henne. That means nothing but more action for Manningham, who has already proven his deep threat capability and his utility as a reliable WR.
McCoy will be slinging the ball around a lot, so Limas Sweed would be a good bet. I'm not really sure who else Texas has at WR.
Percy Harvin should have a standout year, but his numbers probably won't be as good as some of the other receivers because Florida has so many options on offense.
Early Doucet could definitely make a play for it since LSU seems to have little reliable depth behind him. The only thing that might limit his production is LSU's stellar combination of an experienced offensive line and a talented core of young running backs.
DeSean Jackson should put up pretty good numbers playing in the PAC-10 but I don't think he can really hang with the above 4.

Im a big fan of James Hardy, not quite sure why though. However I have to agree it will be Mario. Didnt hear much about him last year, but he had a great freshmen year, I think he will return to that form.

Hate to say it ( I HATE MICHIGAN.) but Mario Manningham easily has the best year with a stong running game to minimize double-teams and Henne throwing him the ball....lethal concoction IMO.

Honestly, I think Michigan has a pretty decent shot at winning it all next year, even with the losses on the defensive side of the ball.

Limas Sweed - Texas
Mario Manningham - Michigan
Early Doucet - LSU
Percy Harvin - Florida
DeSean Jackson - California
Adarious Bowman - Okla St.
Derrick Williams - Penn St.
James Hardy - Indiana
The top two senior wide receiver prospects at this point are Early Doucet (LSU) and Limas Sweed from Texas. Sweed has the size at 6 foot 4 inches, but Doucet has the edge in speed and athletic ability. An excellent receiver prospect that is also adept at returning punts and kick-offs. Doucet runs precise routes, has great hands and has superior start and stop capability. He is stocky, strong and not shy about going over the middle to catch the ball in traffic. Unless he sustains a major injury or arrest, he looks to be definite first round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Last year (2006) he was an integral part of a spectacular receiver trio. Two of the three, (besides Doucet) were first round draft picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. Dwayne Bowe went to the Chiefs, and Craig Davis went to the Chargers. While playing with those talented receivers, Doucet only started six games, but still finished with 3 more catches and 4 more touchdowns than Davis. He finished the season with 59 receptions for 722 yards and 8 touchdowns.
As a sophomore in 2005 he played in 12 games and got five starts and caught at least 1 pass in 11 of LSU's 12 games. As a true freshman in 2004 he was named to the Freshmen All-SEC team by the league's coaches after catching 18 passes for 257 yards and 2 TDs. He played in all 12 games for the Tigers with 3 starts.
As a high school prep athlete he was considered the top wide receiver in America and the No. 1 athlete in the state of Louisiana. He was rated within the nation's top-five prospects by every major recruiting publication. He was named an All-American by Parade Magazine and a second-team All-American by USA Today. In high school he was an incredibly versatile athlete, playing quarterback, wide receiver, running back. Source Credit: NFL Draft Dog.com

On that list I would have picked between Doucet or Harvin, but with new QBs coming in for those teams it is hard to pick them so I would probably pick Sweed.
However, I think that the stud receiver will be someone not on that list

If we're just talking SEC, It's Doucet hands down. Percy Harvin won't get as many grabs because the way they'll utilize him (reverses, lining up at H back, option back) And you'll have a stronger running game. Doucet will be Flynn's go-to-guy.

No offense, KN, but I think those chicks are used to being in that position. I bet their own boyfriends have to write that on their backs just to be able to perform. "DON'T TURN AROUND, AND BE EYIN' ME!!!"
As for the topic, Harvin is far and away the most talented receiver; but, like others have said, he'll be used in a variety of ways. Meyer wants the ball in his hands as often as possible, because he is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches it. That said, I think Andre Caldwell will be the best WR in the NCAA next year. "Bubba" is the brother of former Gator and current Patriots receiver, Reche Caldwell. He's a senior who decided to stay for his final season, had a pretty good year last season (577 yards) as the #2 man, and is poised to be the #1 guy. He's the player doing the Gator Chomp in the EA Sports NCAA '08 thread picture. He may have some trouble getting the really big numbers, because as has been pointed out in many articles posted here, UF is currently WRU, and the ball will get spread around a great deal. The receivers of several of the other teams listed are their only go-to guy, so their numbers will be better.

Ha, label me a homer if you want but I WAS surprised that DJ wasn't on this list, but not just him. I was also surprised to see Keenan Burton and Earl Bennett not mentioned. If you had to rank the conferences by strength at the WR position, I think the SEC might come out as number one. Doucet, Bennett, Burton, Monk, Harvin, and Hall, etc.
Edit - All the WR's that are on the original list are very good, though, so I can understand why the guy asking may not have included so many SEC guys.

I actually found this topic on another chat website and it brought some good discussion. I know there are plenty of other WR that deserve to be on that list but the one's listed are probably the most recognized on a national stage and have all have big years before.
I also like James Hardy from Indiana. The former basketball player turned out to be a great WR. Too bad he is in a pansy offense like IU. At 6'7" he makes a formidible opponent. 1,600 yds and 20 TD's last 2 years.

Yeah, I totally understand. These kind of questions do generate a lot of good discussion, though. Outside of the SEC I'd have to give a thumbs up to Bowman of OSU. Saw him play in the Independence Bowl last year. He's got good size (6'4, 220), good hands, and an improving quarterback in Bobby Reid to get him the ball. I also agree about Manningham, seeing is how Michigan will have such a balanced offense, thus more single-coverages for Mario.
In the SEC, I think Florida will find ways to get the ball into the hands of Harvin without necessarily throwing to him. He's weapon every time he's on the field. I think Marcus Monk is primed for another big season, especially with the attention the running game will get.
Earl Bennett, imo, is the total package and maybe even the best all-around WR in the SEC. He doesn't get the hype that Doucet and others get because he plays at Vanderbilt, but make no mistake about it, he will be playing on Sundays. With an improving and more experienced Chris Nickson at QB, SEC defenses better watch out for No. 10 to make some plays.

An Irishman in a wheelchair entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Irishman looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus sitting over there?"
The waitress nodded "yes," so the Irishman told her to give Jesus a cup of coffee on him.
The next patron to come in was an Englishman with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Englishman said to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "My treat."
The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Redneck from Tennessee on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, "Hey there, sweet thang. How's about gettin' me a cold glass of Coke!" He, too, looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that God's boy over there?" The waitress once more nodded, so the Redneck said to give Jesus a cold glass of Coke, "On my bill."
As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Irishman, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Irishman felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and danced a jig out the door. Jesus also passed by the Englishman, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Englishman felt his back straightening up, and he raised his hands, praised the Lord and did a series of back flips out the door. Then Jesus walked towards the Redneck.
The Redneck jumped up and yelled, "Don't touch me...I'm drawin'disability!"

I think DeShaun Jackson is the second best player in the country behind McFadden.

Keith Brown will be another excellent Bama WR to keep an eye on.

I agree with UAdan on this.
It wouldn't surprise me to see all of them playing on Sunday's.
