View Full Version : The saga continues (Jerrell Powe)

The saga that is Jerrell Powe, has taken another twist. In this episode he is taken under the wing by a surrogate father in Jon Barnett, and re-enrolls at Waynesboro's high school. This is getting a little ridiculous, I'm glad that the kid is trying to get his education and all, but he's been denied by the NCAA three times and now he's back in High School? I think this is a lost cause for coach O and the boys. But who knows, maybe the third time is a charm. And if it is finally declared eligible Coach O (that is if it is still under the O regime) should become the head of No Child Left Behind. Because if he can take a high school grad who is dyslexic, can't read, and has a proven learning disability, and get him to the lofty standards that Ole Miss has, then he can make a star student out of every kid in the nation.

That article doesn't tell the whole story.

"Planning the Desert Storm invasion had to be a lot simpler than this," Barnett said.

If that's not a slap in the young man's face. It seems BYU doesn't want to take responsibility for the misinformation given to the young man and/or confusion on the young man's part.

I just woke up, but from what I understand Powe was enrolled 3 different places: Taking online courses from BYU, Hargrave Military Academy, and High School all at the same time just so he can play at Ole Miss?

Is that legal? Are there laws (similar to child labor laws) that would/should/could put everyone else (not including Powe) in some hot water?

That article doesn't tell the whole story.

Cianne, it's good to see you again. I'm very tired, barely skimmed the article, and don't feel like reading it all. Explain it for me, I'm too tired to comprehend it all. :closedeye

how can a prep athlete be eligible for college if he hasn't yet graduated from high school?

If he has graduated, then how can he re-enroll?

While I think he has great intentions, some people are just not right for college period.

Looks like Ole Miss will have a 5-star recruit again for the next 4+ years

Going to prep school or taking correspondence courses is essentially the same thing as re-enrolling in high school. You are making up for missing core credits.

I wonder if coach o plans on getting him on campus or if he is using his rating to boost his ranking of those recruting class.

he hasn't been counted in this year's rankings as he actually hasn't signed yet

Well since he did that only on the initial signing class, I'm going to assume he's not using it to boost recruiting rankings. Re-signees aren't factored.
