Figured since we had a trade thread may as well have a discussion/trash talk thread as well.
Week 1 is underway.. I was down 6-2 but made up some ground yesterday and im 4-4 with Seppeh. How is everyone else doing in opening week?

Same here. I won't talk smack down 8-2. Carpenter's blow up against NYM on Sunday didn't help my numbers at all, but I have LAckey, Webb, and OSwalt going twice this week so that oughta help. ALso hopefully Maddux will be locating his stuff well. Carpenter will miss his next start due to inflamation in his elbow. Story of my life. He will probably spend half of the season on the DL now that I have him on my team. I always have a stud pitcher go down to injury. It is tradition.:thumbsdow

Took my first lead in my matchup with Seppeh.. 5-4 right now, and I'm hoping to put the nail in the coffin today with Lowe and Glavine pitching. Gary Matthews Jr has been on fire..
the sad thing is Ortiz is liks 1/12 with 1 double so far, and I'm still doing O.K.

Last day of the opening week today.. I got a full lineup with Peavy and Schilling pitching, and I'm down 4-5 to Seppeh. If freaking Ortiz would get out of his funk and hit some HR's and even base hits I would be winning.

And since I'm such the numbers freak, here goes the week 1 winners. Please correct me if I'm wrong....did this in kind of a hurry:
Runs: Omahabound - 35
HR: Infinite Chaos - 11
RBI: Infinite Chaos - 33
SB: AUTiger94, Infinite Chaos, Omahabound - 7
AVG: Omahabound - .349
Wins: Infinite Chaos - 6
Saves: AUFootball24, scfan5338 - 7

WHIP: Omahabound - 1.04

I was leading scfan5338 5 to 3 up to the last day (yesterday), then my team tanked for the day, and his team edged mine in wins, saves, and K's to take the lead in those stats, and got 1 HR to my 0 HR's to break that tie, and beat me 7 to 3.
Pretty much all my big hitters (A. Jones, C. Jones, Thome, Dye, Berkman & Swisher) are swinging goose-eggs right now (they have combined for 2 HR's thus far between them), but I know they will start gunning it soon. A catcher (McCann) and a utility player (DeRosa) are my offensive leaders right now, with 4 of the total 6 HR's and 13 of the total 28 RBI's. Hopefully that will change soon....

I hate to say it but you did draft the all-Brave/former-Brave team there. They aren't exactly known for scoring 10 runs a game or anything.

The Braves as a team, maybe, but McCann is one of the top 2 or 3 offensive catchers in the game right now. Andruw is the epitome of "streaky", as he will bat .100 for 10-20 games, then bat .350 with 10 HR's & 20-30 RBI's the next 10-20 games, so I just have to ride out his bad streaks. Chipper Jones is healthy, and usually as long as he is, he usually puts up all-star caliber numbers, still. The problem with him is he hasn't been healthy in the past 2 seasons. He and I are both hoping that he will be this season.
As for Thome, Dye, Berkman, and Swisher: with the exception of Swisher (although he is one of my hottest hitters right now, along with McCann & Derosa - just no HR's), they all are around .280-.300 hitters, so I expect eventually for them to start hitting. It's just that right now, they aren't......

Well I should be fine in the hitting department now that Damon is back and even Piazza is hitting well, I just need Ortiz to climb out of the slump (which he did last game with 2 hr's) and put up some hr's. My OF is turning out amazing this season.
I don't even know if its possible for my pitching to beat you in ERA, but Schilling/Peavy/Glavine/Lowe have all started out very well.

Nope. Postponed games stats count when the games are actually played. For example, most postponed games are made up as a doubleheader. The day the doubleheader is played, the stats count for both games on the day played. The only exception is like the Florida game this week, where the game was completed the next day. Those stats counted on the day it started because the game had already started and was being completed on another day. In other words, it was an official game on the day the game started and was not postponed.
One thing about postponed games that are doubleheaders......start those players involved in the doubleheader since many of the players will get twice as many ABs (more chances at RBIs, runs scored, HRs, and SBs).
EDIT: Here's the official rules from Yahoo:
When are statistics and league scoring updated?
All statistics will be processed following each night's games and made available early every morning.
If a game is rained out or if play is suspended, the stats for the players affected will count for the day on which the make-up game is played. Scoring will not be updated retroactively for the originally scheduled date.
If a doubleheader is played, all players will get credit for the stats compiled during both games. It is not possible to activate a player for just the first or second game. They must either be active or benched for both games.

My team suffers from micro-management I think. I make a change in the lineup, the guy I sit hits a homer while the guy I start does an O-fer. That, and my pitchers are throwing batting practice pitches out there...my team ERA has to be 7.00+ at least.
Good thing it's a long season....most of my disappointments aren't going to be season-long ones but it sure does suck to watch them struggle now. Shoot, David Wright had a good game for the first time in a LONG time last night. He had a 20-something game hitting streak but every one of those games, it seemed like he was 1-5 or 1-4 every night with one single and a walk.

Join the crowd. I think it was Week 2 that I sat 2 or 3 HR's on my bench. Lately, I've been making the right choices, but I'm ready for that trend to reverse at any time.

I'm looking to move some hitting for pitching. I've got Howard/Hafner/Atkins/Figgins for sale. I could also deal for an OF.
Shoot me some deals.
I want Posada... I'll trade you John Buck as a replacement and you can let me know what pitchers of mine you're interested in.

Well, good luck to the league players that advance into the postseason play-offs! My team really disappointed me in this league. I drafted what I thought would be a team very heavy on offense, but most of my players had career slump years, at least through the first 3/4 of the season. Only Chipper Jones performed close to what I expected from him, although I had hoped he would get through this season without much down-time due to injuries, but that didn't happen.
My team went 2-10 through the first 12 weeks of the 22-week schedule, scoring a pitiful 35-79-6, as GAMECOCK_FAN noted in post #72.
Since then my team went 5-3-2 over the last 10 weeks, with a more respectable 48-48-4. But what can you do?? I will try again next year.
Once again, good luck in the play-offs! I will continue to check on the league to see who ends up winning!

Well with only one losing week prior to the All-star break I thought I was going to cruise wire to wire but the DL and my greed for trying to get more HR's in my lineup backfired (major understatement). All is well now though. I just can't settle for third again.:brick: Good luck 24 and good luck everyone else.

Looks like I'm up against 3 Cocks in the final 4. Good game 24 That was close. Good luck G4E and w/ any luck I'll be gunning for Gamecock fan or Wayzie next week! Wayz you ought to seriously feel guilty getting into the semi's on a 5-5 tie.;) I'll bet Cianne was pissed:destroy:

Wow! The SECT Baseball league was great this year. It was up and down for me personally, like a chess match on crack:laugh:. Alas in the end I settle for third for the second straight year w/ a tie breaker victory over Gamecock fan (5-5 score but I had lower team ERA). In fact Gamecocks4ever and Wayzie are tied at 5-5 w/ just a couple pitchers left. It is only fitting the final two games of this season come down to the tie breaker. Great season everybody and Congats to InfiniteChoas aka G4E on bringing it on home(it looks as if he'll hold on)!

I guess I should be the good citizen and say this, just in case the guys playing this week don't realize it. This final week is really two weeks. The season doesn't end until Sept. 30. Bad thing is, Wayz's offense is turning it on at the moment and looks like he might blow me out. I wish it was over. :brick: Of course, at least I can say I was robbed if he wins.

Heck, I almost learned the hard way in basketball. I thought it was over and logged on two days later to see the final results, and realized it was still going on. It almost cost me 3rd. Fortunately, Neo had long been asleep at the wheel.

I think most of the basketball team owners in our League fell asleep after the 3rd or 4th week of the season last year.

Yeah, it was just you, me, and Wayz at the end. I finished 3rd, but you might as well say I finished last.
