I don't wish injury on any player but thought some here would like to know that Gary Gray broke his arm on Friday & will be out 4-6 weeks (the rest of spring practices, scrimmages and Blue & Gold spring game) to allow it to heal.
As for Munir Prince moving from RB to CB, Weis saying "this isn't an emergency move" is like Brittny Spears saying she didn't check into rehab three different times because she had issues to deal with. I can't imagine even ND being so desperate that moving a smallish RB to cornerback would have entered their thoughts had they any better options. This is a blow to ND's hopes of revamping their defense in quick fashion this spring...Gray was most likely going to be one of their better CB's & probably still will be when he gets back.
The good news for Gray is that the injury isn't displaced & didn't need to be re-set, pins put in or anything like that so a month-month and a half should be all he misses.

Tailback makes move to cornerback

SOUTH BEND – He surveyed the roster, discussed it with his coach and then asked to shift.
The timing of Munir Prince’s conversation with Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.
Freshman Gary Gray broke his arm that day, so Weis listened to Prince’s argument about switching from running back to cornerback and then granted it.
“He asked me to consider it and I said consider it done,” Weis said. “He asked me to consider it, and we made the move (Saturday) morning.”
Weis said he made the move in part because Gray’s injury will leave the cornerbacks thin for the rest of the spring and also because he has confidence in his running backs, led by fifth-year senior Travis Thomas and sophomore James Aldridge.
Prince, the 5-foot-10, 184-pound sophomore from Florissant, Mo., played cornerback at DeSmet Jesuit High School and was an all-state selection. Weis said the move may be permanent even when Gray returns after spring practice.
Prince could help because his speed has stood out to Weis since he arrived in South Bend last summer. Early in last year’s practice, Weis singled out Prince because of his speed.
Now, it’ll just be seen from the other side of the field.
“We’re going to give it a fair go, a legitimate look,” Weis said. “This isn’t just an emergency move where you are moving a guy over there just to get another guy over there.”
Gray’s injury
Gray landed on his right forearm during Friday’s practice and cracked the bone.
The injury, suffered during one-on-one drills, placed Gray in a cast and Weis said he will be out 4 to 6 weeks, ending his spring practice.
Gray is one of three players, along with quarterback Jimmy Clausen and running back Armando Allen, to enroll early in January, one semester before their freshman year was set to start.
“It’s not displaced, not all the way through, but it’s enough where you have to put it in a cast for a minimum four weeks,” Weis said. “We talked about it last night. This isn’t something you wait. You just put it in a cast. There is no pin, no operation, you just let the thing heal.”
