Hey guys...I haven't been around for a while because I gave up internet browsing for Lent. But something happened last night that I feel the need to share. We lost our house, both cars, and everything except the clothes we were wearing in a fire. But all I can think about is the fact that my entire family got out of the house without a scratch. Please pray for my kids (2 year old and 3 month old) because the 2 year old especially is very scared right now.

I guess I just really feel the need to thank God publicly for protecting us. All our stuff is replaceable, but it's painful to think about what could have happened.

I've got you in my prayers, gatorhater. Glad to hear that everyone got out safely, which is the most important thing. As you say, possessions are replaceble; family isn't.

That's awful, gh. I'll say some extra ones for you and yours. I'll even ask him to intervene with your insurance company so your stuff gets replaced quicker. After UF's year, I've got this sneaky suspicion he's been listening to me.

Sorry to hear about this GH, you and yours are in our prayers. Two questions...did you have insurance? And, is there an address or account set-up yet to offer you guys help? God bless you and your family....he already has, no scratches...that's a blessing.

You and yours will definitely be in my prayers. Thankfully, your family is safe. I hope this tragedy somehow turns around to be something good for you and your family in the end. God sometimes arranges for that to happen.

hey guys...just got a chance to log on. we've been out buying clothes, baby stuff, toiletries, diapers, etc. w/ the money the red cross helped out with and the cash our church and friends gave. tomorrow, i'm reviewing the house w/ the adjustor, but it looks like insurance should help significantly. again, thanks for the encouragement and i'll keep you updated.

GH, you obviously have your head and heart in the right place. So sorry about it all. Discovering that we are powerless to do something is sickening at first and then we discover that the One who has true power truly loves us and gets us through tough times. Blessings.

our neighbor apparently captured the fire on tape. here are the youtube links:

YouTube - House Fire Video 1 of 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmujsGCmic0)

YouTube - House Fire Video 2 of 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJYRsmqayFo)

by the time the camera reaches the house, my wife and kids were down the street. you can barely see me trying to get the SUV out of the garage (trying to keep it from exploding), but when i saw how quickly the flames were spreading, i gave it up. the camera missed the SUV exploding...it would have actually been pretty cool to watch if it hadn't belonged to me.

the fact that the house burned so quickly is causing a huge investigation and possible changes to the building codes. i just hope that some lessons can be learned that will save some other people the same tragedy.

That is one huge fire man. I'm glad that everyone is ok.

I'm back after giving up sports talk for Lent. I'll be around a bit, but dealing w/ insurance is taking up a lot of time, so it will probably mostly be goofing off while I'm at work. I'm working north of Atlanta in Suwanee since the fire, so I'm alone in my area. No one around to make sure my internet usage is work-related. Yay!

I've never seen fire spread like that. It's ridiculous, really. The sun breaking through the clouds is in the fact that most everything lost can be replaced. I'm sure there were many items of sentimental value lost in the blaze but no life was lost and your family can move ahead with that comfort.
