Didn't get to catch the LSU spring game since I'm back at home, but from what I have heard RP is far from being game ready and Flynn looked mediocre at best.
Based on the general reaction at TigerDroppings.. it looks like my prediction of LSU REALLY missing JaMarcus is coming to fruition much early than expected. Mind you this is also against an a-day defense that plays only base sets.

^ this scared/scares me alot
RP literally couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
MF had problems as well.
Sorry dude, its true. Both QBs looked very shaky out there. Neither looked impressive and you should be very concerned about the QB position this year. Flynn appears servicable but it is going to be a serious downgrade from last year at the position. I really think Flynn is gonna struggle this year. Our offense will NOT be a deep threat offense b/c I think Flynn seriously limits our playcalling. Look for power running game, some option, qb runs and short passes from Flynn.
This may be enough for us to win tons of games, however, just don't expect Flynn to be the kind of QB to put the game in his hands and he'll win it for us. Every other position appears ready to go for next year maybe w/ the exception of WR- We are loaded w/ talent at WR but besides Early (who is a freak), no WRs have done anything to show they can consistently be a solid SEC wr. Lafell dropped WAY to many passes and I don't recall either Mitchell's or Dixon doing anything of note today.
QB and WR are the areas LSU needs to improve on going into the fall.
Also seemed to be some WR concern with Lafell, Early Doucet is apparently the only receiver with great hands.

LSU, if you follow the links I provided, it seems that both QB's being mediocre at best is the general consensus, with a few fans trying to flat out deny it. Yet know one is saying Flynn looked amazing, or even decent.
LSU fans have been on a football high as of late with so much success, but this year may end up being very disappointing for LSU. If Flynn can't pull it together before fall practice ends, that VaTech game is going to be a nightmare.
Interesting, eh GeauxTo ? All this time you've spent bashing Brandon Cox and now you have your own QB issues to worry about . Should be an interesting year to say the least =)

Don't get too excited just yet...
I was there, and I saw it a bit differently. Neither QB gave a stupendous performance, true, but the defenses on both sides were coming with gusto. Perrilloux made one throw while being harrassed out of the pocket, running full speed, and threw an arrow to little Trindon Holliday. He also had a couple of good throws dropped. He's definitely got a good arm, but little experience at this point. Flynn looked fine. He hit some good throws, missed a couple of long ones, and had a drop or two. Both QBs showed they could run if need be. Both QBs are beyond the capabilities of Brandon Cox, and I would venture to say that The Barn's defense will have to really be something to match up to this Tiger defense; they are big and quick. RB Richard Murphy, however, did have the speed to flank the defense on his TD run.
Leave it to say, I am not worried about the LSU QB corps, all is well; and I am very enthused about the running backs and the defense.
The matchup between The Barn and the Bengal Tigers will, as usual, likely be a good one; and it comes later in the season this year.

Matt Flynn, waiting his turn in following Russell this year, reminds me a lot of Matt Mauck after Rohan Davey left for the NFL. Everybody thought that Mauck looked weak during the following Spring and would cause the Tigers to be weaker at QB in the Fall. But we all know how that story ended, Mauck led the Bayou Bengals to a National Championship. Both Mauck and Flynn were bowl MVP's as "backup QBs" before they were starters. A lot of similarities between the two. Everyone I talked to about the Spring game came away fired up about the upcoming season and felt let the dominating Tiger defense (knowing the receiver's routes) is what made the Tiger offense look a little average. They were very impressed with all the talent that make up this team. But guys. . . it's Spring! But I feel just fine about the possibilities that lie ahead for this LSU team. I wouldn't want to trade this team for any other team in the nation. It's going to fun seeing how next season unfolds!

Let the voice of experience guide you... having 2-3 bad QB's isn't so bad. It adds spice and excitement to the season. You never know what you'll get. Rotating them in and out *really* keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Another view, which is positive, from Dandy Don...
I attended LSU's Spring game Saturday and was very impressed.
On offense, I thought Matt Flynn was very impressive considering that the defense knew all the pass routes the LSU receivers would be running. Flynn showed a live arm and a nice touch on several throws and looked very quick on a couple running plays. Flynn completed 11 of 22 passes for 135 yards. Ryan Perrilloux completed eight of 23 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown and looked very good on a couple of plays when the defense flushed him out of the pocket. Perrilloux had at least five passes that were dropped that should have been completions.
At the running back position, I thought Richard Murphy, Keiland Williams and Alley Broussard ran the ball very well. Richard Murphy broke a couple of runs for 18 to 20 yards and finished with 85 yards on 11 carries. One of Murphy's longer runs was a cut back against the grain that was very pretty. Williams started off fast by gaining 25 yards on his first three carries and finish the scrimmage with 46 yards on eight carries. Williams had carries of 8, 8, 9, 1, 4, 5, 6 and 5 yards. Alley Broussard gained 32 yards on eight carries and had runs of 7, 4, 3, 4, 2, 4, 3 and 5 yards, and one touchdown. Fullback Quinn Johnson made a couple of nice blocks and had a couple of receptions in the flat.
Early Doucet was by far the most impressive player on the field. Doucet caught nine passes for 115 yards and a touchdown and also returned punts and kicks. Brandon LaFell made a couple of nice catches but also had a couple of dropped passes. Ricky Dixon caught a couple of nice passes. LSU will need for a couple of incoming freshmen wide receivers to step up next Fall to keep opposing teams from double-covering Doucet.
Both offensive lines did alright in run blocking, but allowed too many sacks. The center of both offensive lines looked very good but the offensive tackles had problems blocking Tremaine Johnson and Tyson Jackson.
On defense, I thought Johnson and Jackson looked great and Ricky Jean Francois and Joseph Barksdale played well at times. Al Woods also looked good at times. I was very impressed with linebackers Darry Beckwith, Perry Riley and Kelvin Sheppard. In the defensive backfield, I thought Jai Eugene, Curtis Taylor, Harry Coleman, Troy Giddens, Danny McCray and Chris Hawkins played very well. Eugene broke up a couple of long passes and Chris Hawkins had perfect coverage on Doucet on two long pass plays.
I was very pleased with what I saw, and I believe the crowd of almost 15,000 left the stadium very happy.

I disagree with you and I stand by my comparison even more so after watching the Spring game as well, and having been at the Spring game Mauck's last year. Mauck struggle in the Spring game because of 1) lack of a lot of game experience and 2) the birth of a number one defense (that knew the plays). Same thing we saw in Saturday's Spring game. Just being honest as well, I feel good about Flynn having a great season this year. I see Flynn about where Mauck was at this point (not at the middle of or the end of the NC year). Most Tiger fans felt then about the same way we Tiger fans feel today after Spring camp, very "optimistic" about our QB situation. But, hey, time will tell. That's what makes this time of the year (and this site) so fun. . . all our expert opinions!

By ESPN, and SI, and everyone else in the world who recognizes the QB Rating system.
Cox being 20-5 as a starter has a lot to do with him, and even more to do with the team. Sort like how JPW being 6-7 as a starter (losing record.. ouch), has a lot to do with him and even more to do with the team.

Any Spurrier coached team can always do the unexpected. I think the Gamecocks will come ready to play and will pull some surprises. But in the end, we should win handily. Our defense is too good and our talent is too deep for even Spurs to overcome. I don't know how good your defense is, but we are going to have a stellar running game, swapping out Keiland Williams, Richard Murphy, Charles Scott, and Alley Broussard. They will wear out the best defenses.
