LSU 49 West Virginia 43

San Antonio (AP) The LSU women's basketball team survived a major scare tonight as its bid for a fourth consecutive Final Four appearance stayed alive. The Lady Tigers overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to beat West Virginia, 49-43, in a second-round NCAA tournament game. Sylvia Fowles scored 20 points and 12 rebounds for LSU, the No. 3 seed in the Fresno (Calif.) Regional. LSU will head to Fresno for a regional semifinal game Saturday after surviving a close call against an 11th-seeded West Virginia team that suffered a 64-25 loss in Baton Rouge in November. West Virginia took a 35-24 lead on Sparkle Davis' jumper with 12:37 to go. The shot capped a 13-1 spurt by WVU. LSU answered with a 12-0 run that gave the Lady Tigers a 36-35 lead with 8:07 remaining. The teams traded the lead twice more before Fowles' hook shot with 5:38 to go gave LSU a 40-39 lead, and the Lady Tigers would not trail again. WVU took the lead in the first minute of the second half on two layups by Olayinka Sanni. Erica White's jumper gave LSU a 23-22 edge before West Virginia embarked on its 13-1 run that gave WVU its 11-point edge with 12:37 left. LSU led 21-12 after a 3-pointer by RaShonta LeBlanc with 3:58 to go in the first half. But West Virginia scored the last six points of the half and trailed just 21-18 at halftime. The Lady Tigers' biggest lead was a 16-6 cushion with 9:51 to go in the first half. Chakhia Cole and Ashley Powell each scored 11 points to lead West Virginia.

Georgia 76, Iowa State 56

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Maybe Georgia was saving all of its offense for the second round. Cori Chambers scored all 18 of her points in a perfect first-half performance, leading the third-seeded Lady Bulldogs to a 76-56 victory over Iowa State in the Dallas Regional on Monday night. Tasha Humphrey had 21 points and seven rebounds for Georgia (27-6), which shot 61 percent and made eight 3-pointers in the first half to advance to the school's 17th regional semifinal and fifth in a row. Lyndsey Medders had 11 points and nine assists for sixth-seeded Iowa State (26-9), which trailed by 25 points midway through the first half and couldn't compete with Georgia's quickness on the perimeter and physical defensive play. The game was a rematch of the 1999 Mideast Regional Final won by Georgia, 89-71, and this one was just as lopsided. After shooting just 32 percent in an ugly 53-36 victory over Belmont in the first round, Georgia couldn't miss early on Monday night. The Lady Bulldogs missed just twice in the first nine minutes and went 6-for-6 from 3-point range to bury Iowa State. They will play the winner of Purdue-Georgia Tech in Dallas on Sunday. After the uninspired performance against Belmont, coach Andy Landers challenged the on-court leadership of his team on Sunday, saying ``I'm the leader. I just hope I have willing followers.'' The senior Chambers showed she got the message. Chambers, who tied Wanda Holloway's school record by playing in her 134th career game, hit all seven of her field goals, including four 3-pointers, in the first 20 minutes as Georgia just kept on coming. The stunned Cyclones were no match. They committed six turnovers in the first eight minutes and were down 29-4 before they caught their breath. Iowa State cruised past Washington in the first round thanks to strong guard play and accurate 3-point shooting, but Medders and Alison Lacey were bottled up on Monday night. Ashley Houts and Janese Hardrick dominated the perimeter, flying past the slower Cyclones on several coast-to-coast dashes. Houts hit two 3s of her own in the first half, and the thousands of vocal Cyclones fans who made the 3 1/2-hour bus trip up from Ames, Iowa, couldn't save their team this time. Iowa State shot just 34.5 percent and missed its chance for the school's fourth trip to the round of 16 and first since 2001.

Congrats to the Lady Tigers and all, but I gotta be honest.. women's basketball may be the most boring sport on television. Wide open shots missed constantly, slow moving games, often low scoring and thats not due to defense. There are women's sports that are very entertaining, such as tennis or softball, but women's basketball is a snoozefest.

Just my opinion, but I would honestly rather watch curling or amateur eating contests.

I can't stand the way they shoot the ball. Candace Parker is the only exciting player to watch in women's basketball.

College women's basketball certainly isn't the most exciting of all the college sports, but there are times it can be. For example, when it's LSU playing or when I'm watching it with my younger daughter who plays high school basketball.

My favorite college women's sport to watch would probably be softball. My oldest daughter plays college softball for a D-3 team and so the sport has grown on me over the years. Outside of college football, men's and women's basketball, baseball or softball, I really don't keep up with anything else.
