Answer me this...what has changed in the last 50 years that's led to this social behavior we have supposedly "evolved" into to?

The country has become more tolerant of some things and less tolerant of others. The conservativism of the 1950s wasn't so bad. Now, before the "PC Police" scream about racism...that's about the only thing that's improved socially in the last 50 years...that and suffrage.

I certainly dont like it when PC police blow things all out of proportion(like gay groups complaining about snickers ) but I do think there are things other than racism that have improved in this country. Society as a whole is more accepting of people with other beliefs. Women have more rights and more input into how the country is ran. We have a better understanding of many mental disorders and different addiction. Society is more compatible for people with disabilities(like being blind or having various handicaps). I could probably go on for a while but I'll keep it short.

All true...technology...especially in the medical sciences has made quantum leaps...but as far as socially...it was a lot safer 50 years ago. Kids weren't killing each other at schools, you could leave your doors unlocked...your car unlocked....our kids were safe at home in their beds...I'll admit, it's nice to be able to flip on the computer and get all the news in seconds and it's nice to be able to prescribe a new drug that I know will help a patient...but those simpler times are definitely appealing.

BTW, what's up with gays and Snickers? Haven't heard that...Snickers are my favorite!

I bet they are!;) No, seriously; Snickers ran an ad campaign that was apparently insensitive to homosexuals. You haven't seen it because the gay powers-that-be jumped all over the ad so fast and so vocally, that they pulled it immediately. I can't even remember the scenario... which is exactly what that cop in the Village People was trying to accomplish in the first place. It's another example of this extremist attitude by the PC police. Every group of people has some sort of stereotypical parody about them in ads every day. I found the ad if you want to see what all the fuss was about. It should have been banned for stupidity, not gay-bashing. It wasn't even very funny. I will give you a perfect example of the problem with society. 3 teenagers were disciplined in a group I was involved with for not following the rules of the group. When parents came to pick them up, they were seated in a different area and it was requested their parents speak to the group leader. 2 of the boys were brothers so this involved 2 parents, 1 the mother and the other the father. Both expressed anger toward the group leader for humiliating them by taking them out of the group. These young men had a clear set of guidelines to follow and had repeatedly refused to do so. The leader had no choice but to accept constant interruption at the detriment of the group, or separate them. The parents took up for the children and it was made clear they would not be punished for their lack of respect.

Within 6 months, 2 of these young men were expelled from school and the other was taken into custody for questioning in regard to an incident involving his 2 best friends. That equation should show you the precise nature of the breakdown. Parents do not parent and do not allow leaders to lead. Take the Ritalin example, the parent and teacher could go through the correct steps to solve the problem or go with the more easily accepted method. They chose easy because the parents don't parent and our culture has made it much easier to treat the symptoms rather than the disease.

IMO the root of our troubles lies with the downfall of the family in our society and the move away from Christian values. We were all created by God so He should know better than anyone else what will make us happy. Back in those days the great majority of people lived by the blueprirt He laid out for us. We as a society started to turn from that in the 60's. Just look at how things are now compared to then and the answer as to why things are so bad becomes obvious.
