It should've been over in regulation. Jamont Gordon was fouled on his 3-point shot that tied it. If he'd been given the foul shot, he could've ended it right then. It was a hard fought game. I think Tubby made some bad coaching mistakes, but that's easy to say after the game. I predicted a 3 point win for MSU, so I'm 1-0, so far.

Meta-analysis for hoopsters.
1. "It should've been over in regulation." All games SHOULD be over in regulation...that's what regulation means. As to whether or not Gordon was fouled, he may have been hit, perturbed, disrupted, etc., but he is only FOULED if the whistle blows.
2. "If he'd been given the foul shot, he could've ended it right then." This amounts to a second order hyper-conditional. It would be just as meaningful to say "If he had missed the 3-point shot, he could have ended it right then, because UKY would have retained the lead and won.
3. "It was a hard fought game. See #1 above. Generally, the term "hard fought game" is taken to mean that there is much physical contact that not called by the officials. UKY had 24 PF's and MSU had 26 PF's....hardly a disparity.
4. "I predicted a 3 point win for MSU... On the season MSU has averaged 76 points per game and UKY has averaged 73.3. As basketball does not award partial points for near misses, we would round down for a season average of 73. Their defensive points allowed are statistically identical at 66.8 & 67.8. Therefore, is is not a prediction, but a matter of statistical record that MSU would outscore UKY by 3 points.
5. ...so I'm 1-0, so far. At any given point, everyone is 1-0, it depends on when you start the count.

Great game, Dawgs!. While I don't suppose it would happen, an all Mississippi final would be cool...I assume the Gators will take care of that, if the Bengals don't beat them to punch.

Reb, I'm looking forward to our game tonight. It ought to be a doozy. I hope we don't run out of gas; I'm sure there is a lot of soreness, etc., after that bruiser last night.

5. ...so I'm 1-0, so far. At any given point, everyone is 1-0, it depends on when you start the count.
1. Regulation only refers to time. Since it can't be over with the game tied, saying it should have been over obviously points to my belief that it shouldn't have been tied at the end. And a foul is illegal contact, regardless of whether or not it's called. If I murder someone, it's still a murder; even if I don't get charged with it.
2. That's true. But that's not what I said; nor was it my point. He didn't miss the 3-pointer, so it was tied by not getting the foul shot. It's not my intent to make a meaningful statement; but express my opinion that, in my estimation, there was a good argument for ending the game on the last play + the foul shot. It's not a definitive statement, but an opinion.
3. That's not what I consider the term to mean at all. I consider "hard fought" to mean both teams played with a great deal of passion and heart. To me, it has no connotation, whatsoever, to fouls or the frequency with which they're called. And it certainly doesn't refer to any disparity. Since I didn't mention a disparity favoring either team, I'm not sure why your statement about one is even in your response. Even your definition of "hard fought" makes no mention of a disparity; but seems to infer a game with many fouls; not necessarily in one team's favor.
4. For someone unfamiliar with the statistics, it is, in fact, a prediction. Even if I were familiar with the statistics, it's still a prediction; because while the statistics themselves may be fact, the outcome of the game is still in doubt until the end. It's not a matter of statistical record that MSU beat UK by 3 points in this game. That's only a probability. As such, anyone projecting a final score is, by definition, making a prediction. It may be an educated one; but, it's still a prediction. Case in point: They didn't win by 3.
5. Not when the series of games to start with has already been established by prior discussion. That whole statement is flawed from its inception. Anytime a person begins his predictions/guesses by losing the first one, he never has a possibility of being 1-0.

I never remember an SEC tournament that wasn't junkyard. I am heading over to Westwood about game time. Partially to see my son perform with the UCLA wind symphony, but mostly to rub it in his face that my Trojans are still in the Pac10 Tourney.
I'll check in after the game...best of luck to both teams.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were an unbeatable combo. "Stir Crazy" and "See No Evil, Hear No Evil" are 2 of my favorite movies.
Congrats Bulldogs! We suck.....Tubby sucks.
