I am not saying the west is better. But 2-2 so far with two head to heads today..... I think we will see it go to 3-3 and two more head to head Sat.

How shocking would it be if the West has a winning record in the tourny this year?

The West may end up having a winning record in the SECT, but look at the regular season. None of the East teams had a losing record against the West Division this year during the regular season (even my pathetic SC Gamecocks):

Florida: 5-1 against the West this year
Vanderbilt: 3-3 against the West this year
Tennessee: 4-2 against the West this year
Kentucky: 5-1 against the West this year
Georgia: 4-2 against the West this year
South Carolina: 3-3 against the West this year

East Division vs. West Division: 24-12

I agree. In the tourney, any given team can win one game on a given night; but if you want to determine which division is better, look no further than the regular season record. It's not even close.

EDIT: Case in point: I don't think anyone would argue that LSU is better than UT, but they were for 1 game.

I never said the west was better.

Just shows how absurd Conference tournaments are. We don't have this problem but some conferences send their tourny winner and they are the third best team in the conf. (Case in point Sun Belt. N. Texas was not even a one seed or a two or even a three. I think they were a five.)

Yeah, some teams get up for a tourney game for several reasons. It was ThugU's last chance to shine on national T.V.. All they were playing for was pride, and a chance to ruin another team's season. Sometimes it lets them relax and just have fun. And teams that play like that often win. Some teams are playing for a shot at the NCAA's. There are myriad motivators in tourney play.

That's the way the SEC does it too. The SEC Tournament Champion is given an automatic bid to the NCAAT. The SEC Tournament winner is the only SEC team that receives an automatic bid (although several others will obviously get bids). For example, if LSU wins the SEC Tournament they will be given an automatic bid to the NCAAT. That's the only way LSU will get there. Other SEC teams (with the exception of the SEC Tournament winner) would have to get an at-large bid from the NCAA selection committee.

I really thought that after UGA beat Auburn, UT would knock off LSU and half of the SEC west would be eliminated in the first round.
But credit LSU... they played hard and may have found that special touch that is needed to make a run in the tourney.

I think after the physical beating and OT game last might, they're going to have a tough time against Ole Miss today. Big Baby actually got smashed in the nose, guys were wailing on each other; and by the end they all looked worn out. There's no 3-day rest period at the tourney.

Yeah one thing I noticed, esp. in the UGA and LSU games, was that the refs are letting them play. I saw people getting mugged under the basket and in the paint and the refs didnt call many fouls.
You gotta think that if this is how they call every game then advantage UF and advantage LSU.

Yes the SECT winner gets an automatic bid.... but the SEC also gets 3 more in minimum. If you play in a one bid league the conf. regular season does not matter. I don't think that is right. The tourny format is flawed.

hahahaha. Good one. This is Neutral site. Which is how the NCAA will be. If UF loses tonight.... NO 4 bids will win the SEC.

Ummm Ill wind this thread up for everyone. The SEC East has won the mens basketball championship...again.
Once again the west has come up short on an SEC title in the top 2 sports in the last 2 years.

Lets see what else? The SEC east is sending more teams to the NCAAT than the west.

That being said, I give much credit to the Arkansas Razorbacks. You guys have finished the season strong and have played your way to an NCAAT berth.
Congrats.

So yeah the SEC west stepped their game up and knocked off some good east teams but the east won it all.
