Former UGA QB Quincy Carter had one of the most coveted jobs in all of sports. QB of the Dallas Cowboys. But, after failing 2 drug tests (marijuana), he was run out of Dallas. Dallas says it was because of poor performance because teams are not allowed to give additional drug tests besides the ones done by the NFL. But, Carter agreed to them, and was released right after the second failure. He then tried the Jets, but was cut. Next came a tryout for a Canadian Football League team, where he was also cut. Finally out of options, he plays for an Arena Football League team, making $200 a game ($250 if he wins). He says in an interview on ESPN this morning that he has been trying to get back into the NFL. However, in Dec. of last year, he was busted with marijuana again. At the time, he claimed it wasn't his; but during the interview this morning, he admits it was, and that he was high at the time of his arrest. Doesn't sound like he's trying very hard to get back in the NFL's good graces. Also during the interview, he said it's a habit he took up at UGA; and that he was getting high throughout his college career, on and off season. He says the only times he didn't get high was on game day.
As a UF fan that watched his team's best defensive player, Marcus Thomas, get permanently removed from the team after Meyer found out about 2 instances of pot use, I have to ask: What kind of policies do those UGA folks have? Do they do any testing at all? Do the star players get preferential treatment when it comes to reporting or handling the tests and results? I was amazed at this confession from Carter. I guess at UGA, it's run, pass, puff, puff, pass.
