After almost two years of inactivity, former heavyweight title challenger Andrew Golota resurfaced last month at Buddy McGirt's gym in Vero Beach. Golota's time with McGirt prompted those to predict that the 39-year-old fighter would make a return to the ring - with McGirt as his trainer. Fightnews spoke to McGirt who confirmed: "Yes. It's official. I have a ‘handshake deal' with Andrew to train him for his next fight. He was supposed to fight sometime in April, but it's been pushed back to May. So I just have to find out from Ziggy (Golota's manager) when the exact date is and who the opponent will be. Once we know that, Andrew will come back to my gym here in Vero and we'll begin training." Golota, who stands 6'4" and packs a sledgehammer punch, last fought in May 2005 for Lamon Brewster's WBO title (L-KO1). Previous to that, Golota fought for two other titles: John Ruiz (WBA) in November 2004 (L-UD) knocking Ruiz down twice, and Chris Byrd (IBF) in April 2004 (Draw). Both matches were controversial decisions where many of the fans and media felt that Golota won. Golota's previous trainers include: Lou Duva, Al Certo and Sam Colona.
