February 18, the Big Race in Daytona is coming up fast. Who's your favorite to win the big one?

Gordon or Johnson. This is one of my favorite times of year. I never sleep harder than when I hear a bunch of cars driving around in a circle for 4 hours in the background.:zzzz: It's better than golf or bowling for nap time. But it still lags far behind when compared to televised jarts or croquet.:icon_rofl

Favorite to win the Daytona 500 would be Earnhardt Jr., crybaby Jeff Gordon, or whiny Jimmy Johnson.
My favorite driver is Bobby Labonte. I hope he wins every week. I think that Juan Montoya will suprise some people this year. He has already had some good success (finishes) in the smaller Nascar series in only a short couple month career.

Well, he was a superstar in REAL auto racing. I expect him to make a big splash.

If you are referring to Formula 1, I have attend the USGP at Indianapolis the last couple of years and I don't care for the racing at all. All of the cars are 20 seconds apart the entire race and usually Michael Schumacher is blowing everyone's doors off. The cars are cool, don't get me wrong. They can go 0-200-0 mph in 6 seconds which is impressive. but the racing sucks and the crowd is a internationally mixed and act just like a world cup soccer crowd with air horns, flags, jerseys, etc.... I also go to the Indy 500 every year which is always a blast and my favorite sporting event to go to all year because it is one huge party and the worlds largest single day sporting event with about 300,000 people in the stands and about 200,000 in the infield. The cars are wicked fast and super earpiercing loud. Nascar racing is by far my fav though.

I was actually referring to CART. I really only like Gran Prix racing. Street and road courses. Driving around in a circle is... well... driving around in a circle. I just don't think it requires the same kind of driving skill if you only have to turn the wheel 3 or 4 inches, mostly in the same direction all day. No 90 degree turns, rapid starts and stops, and no "racing". It seems more about which team can make their car go 194.9868 while all the others go 194.9867. And yes, I'm aware of all the little details, like drafting, that a driver must master to win on a regular basis. But, even that can be "crooked", with other drivers helping their teammates and guys they like. Maybe the reason he's in NASCAR is because it's so easy and he thinks it won't take him long to dominate. This is the account of his first effort at driving in a circle:
"That season the Ganassi team also competed in the prestigious Indianapolis 500 race, part of the rival Indy Racing League series. Media and drivers were critical of the way Juan Pablo approached the Brickyard, many IRL drivers labelled him as reckless and predicted an early retirement from the race. The media activity around the event was intense, with Montoya and his CART teammate Jimmy Vasser being the first CART drivers to "cross-over" to drive in the Indy 500. Despite public warnings from two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser, Jr. claiming that if a driver doesn't respect the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the place "will bite you - hard" Montoya shrugged off the advice claiming that all four corners were exactly the same and that the track required less attention than the road courses in the CART series and in European racing.
In the event, the Colombian star led 162 of 200 laps and claimed top honours at the end of the 500 mile race, taking an easy victory on his first attempt. He was the first to do so since Formula One World Champion Graham Hill in 1966 and was the first Colombian winner. His compatriot Roberto José Guerrero had previously finished twice as runner up."

Well, Johnson is my favorite to win again, maybe Matt Kenseth. I used to be a Jr. fan, but he's way into rap/hip-hop. I can't root for anyone who likes rap that much.

Yeah, they drive around in circles making left turns but that's why so many people like it. It's an easy sport to follow when you're stoned drunk.
