I'm hearing that at least one top inside source is reporting Culliver will announce for Florida tomorrow. This guy is supposedly a very, very good inside source, and he's been confident about that information for some time now. BUT I've also heard that Kornblut released a story about CC calling some local sports personality in SC to say he was giving his verbal to the cocks because he "just wanted to play for Spurrier." The reason for the early leak, from what I heard, was to ease the fans' pain of losing Dunlap. Who knows....his dad is high on Florida, and wots is that he is leaning to UF because of Dunlap's verbal. They are supposedly close friends and want to play together.
I know CC wants to be a WR, and if Meyer is still pushing for safety, he's probably already gone, but our recent offers to safeties, especially Jones, suggests we're pitching him hard at wideout.
Looks like another one coming down to the wire....reports from both camps seem to be convincing and solid, which means neither of them probably are, lol....

If we pull off another coup like that, I'm avoiding the board for a few days. All the SC fans have talked about since losing Dunlap, is that they really only wanted Culliver, anyway. That he's what they really need. Any word on when he's making the announcement?

Culliver picks USC over Florida
Wide receiver Chris Culliver (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) of Garner, N.C., said Monday night he has committed to USC, choosing the Gamecocks over Florida.
“I just want to play for coach Spurrier,” he said. “I just want to be there.”
Culliver visited USC over the weekend. He plans a formal announcement Wednesday. Culliver had 1,500 all-purpose yards this season on offense. As a defensive back, he had 147 tackles and four interceptions.
— Phil Kornblut
And this from: The News & Observer
Garner's Chris Culliver, one of the fastest high school football players in the country, has committed to the University of South Carolina.
Culliver is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back, who has been clocked in a 4.28 40-yard dash.

Haha, wise move! In all seriousness, I think they are/were both equally important for us. Yes we have quality DEs coming to USC next year, but Dunlap has the body and potential to be amazing if things work out for him. The same holds true for Culliver. We actually have the #1 WR class in the nation right now according to rivals ( http://southcarolina.rivals.com/TeamRank.asp?sort=0&year=2007&type=9 )....so we won't have chopped liver if Culliver does change his mind. But adding him gives us the fastest receiver and a potential gamebreaker immediately...and if our other WRs turn out to be great, Culliver can help us out at DB where he's more polished anyway.

If Culliver chooses Florida after another 99.999% guarantee for SC, I'm going to stay out of this forum and wait until after NSD to see what we wound up with.......

Culliver got "pissed" that "Korn" released his committment early...of course Kornblut is a "Cock Homer" and was only trying to give the recruitniks a positive vibe after losing Dunlap to the Gators. But Culliver gave an interview today saying he "hasn't decided" yet...I think he is just trying to get a little more excitement for his announcement.
Truth is, I think Culliver is an outstanding player...but we don't need him. We have 3 spots left...the Gators can bring in 27 players...have 24 and the #1 class on both Rivals and Scout. Culliver is probably gonna be a star, but the Gators need to use the remaining spots to sign one WR, one LB...and one DL...we may sign as many as 30 if 2, as of right now, uncommitted players commit to UF. UF needs Culliver to play DB...we have 14 returning WRs on our roster...Culliver doesn't want to be a DB. Yes, the Gator coaches offered him the "chance" to play WR...but 2 of the 3 WR we are currently recruiting are "bigger fish" than Culliver and the 3rd one isn't far behind, if at all.
Good luck to Culliver, I think he had his chance and the Gators have moved on...he's headed to USCe, IMO.

If we lose out on yet another 5 star this year, I think I'll destroy my computer.
But I think we got him. Kornblut, while being a USC homer, is a reliable source.

Screw just losing out on another 5-star guy. I just don't want to lose out on another guy that has already committed to us. I don't think Culliver's dad is going to impact the decision very much. We all saw how much Dunlap's dad influenced his decision. Culliver has already committed to the Gamecocks, so I'm not worried, but then again, I wasn't worried about Dunlap. I wonder where Kornblut got his quotes from because Culliver flat out denied the reports. However, Kornblut said in a speaking engagement today that he directly spoke with Culliver for that interview, and Chris never mentioned that he wanted to keep it confidential.

Phil Kornblut would not just make up quotes. Culliver may indeed commit to UF but I firmly believe what he told Kornblut to be true. Kornblut does nothing except report what recruits tell him. He doesn't rank recruits or anything like that. He simply reports what is told to him.

This is getting aggrevating, I honestly wish we could go ahead and sign our 29 commits (very happy to get by the way) and get started on next year. If he announces florida tommorrow I'm like a few of the gamecocks and will quit following recruiting until NSD.

Man I love this but this will not go down easy in the cock world. I know this sounds bad but I heared the way the guy on the radio said he would jump off a bridge if Culliver did not commit. I know he was kidding but some of the fans I just don't know. I really feel bad these are kids that have alot of pressure on them and getting away from home is sometimes a way to get pressure off.I also know family put alot of pressure on these kids not saying that I don't to my kid thats life. Plus what fan will not say his school is the best place. So whatever happens with this kid know its not just a Cock or Gator thing .I wish him luck no matter what!!!! Don't get me wrong I know its not just some Cocks some Gators on other sites went crazy on not getting some players. I swear guys I only want players that want to be here I want no problems like noles , clemson or the Hogs . I love all the ***** but if this season has not showed us anything heart means more. Not saying ***** don't have heart but I feel desire is harder if everyone thinks your great!!! In closing if you ain't a Gator you are Gatorbait!!!!!!!!!!!

Rivals clearly expects him to be a Cock today. The SC frontpage has him as the top story...the Florida frontpage doesn't even mention him. I know their class is #1, but if another 5-star guy is expected to sign with you he'll get at least a mention rather than a story on their 2-star kicker. Obviously this doesn't mean he won't surprise them and us, but I agree with the poster above who stated Culliver did all this because he was pissed PK told everyone of his commitment.

It said the following in the SC Recruiting thread (after his visit Sunday)..."WR Chris Culliver (6-1 190) of Garner, NC finished his official visit to USC Sunday and will work on a decision with his father the next couple of days. He plans to announce Wednesday between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM."

I appreciate, usually, your info and the way you present it. However, you must know nothing about "Korn". He is largely unbiased, but his personal feelings sometimes cloud an issue for him. Eddie Fogler's leaving/firing is a good example. Many Clem Tech fans claim he is a Cock and many Gamecock fans think he is a Tater.
I hope you are right. Both schools will have talent and depth at WR. I do agree that Culliver will be more of an impact player for us. We need the speed.
Take care.

Kornblut reports for the Cocks...I would expect him to "lean" towards USCe...what other reason does he have for "releasing" Culliver's decision? Culliver made it pretty obvious that he didn't want the news released. Besides, we have Gator "homers" on our sites as well...I'm glad, to tell you truth.
I'm not discounting Culliver's abilities at all...I think he's gonna be a great player...he has the potential to be one of the top freshman WR in the nation next season...I think he wants to play for Spurs and in looking at our board, the Gators don't need him. Culliver to USCe would be best for both teams...the Cocks get a stud at WR...the Gators have a spot for a LB.
Congrats on the class so far, looks like Spurs has finally put the golf "sticks" down and learned to recruit! Imagine if he would have recruited like this at UF, we would have more than two NC trophies in the case, I'm sure.

"2-star kicker"? The only "kicker" in the UF class is Chas Henry...the #1 punter in the Nation... He's a 4-star kicker.

Yeah, he won't play defense, so we really wanted him at a position he wouldn't have played. In a way I agree with Culliver: Meyer was telling him sort of what he wanted to hear....not that he was being disingenuous--he really would have given him a legit shot at WR--but that's not really the reason Florida was pursuing him. Either way, he's a nice get for usce.
As far as WRs are concerned, Tolliver and Thompson are higher on our board. If we land either one of them, our WR board closes, and we got who we wanted.

Thompson's coach, Coach Sneeds...I think that's how you spell it, announced today that DT would announce his destination next week...before his scheduled trip to scUM. BTW, Coach Sneeds was a WR at UF...'87 and '88.
