View Full Version : SEC Talk being overtaken by trolls?

I'm not the oldest member here by far, and I do not have a huge post count, so maybe I'm not in the best position to discuss this, but I've noticed quite a number of members here who've joined towards the end of 2006 who basically do not do anything but troll the threads.

By this I mean they post personal attacks of other members, hijack threads that have nothing to do with them or their favorite team, and try to start back-and-forth arguments with other members. They very rarely start thread topics of any value, or add to existing threads with posts of any value.

I guess this site is predominantly football-centric, and we are into the "offseason" time of the year, so maybe some members are getting "forum cabin fever": they do not have actual games to back up/dispute their claims, so their claims get out of hand, therefore the arguments get out of hand.

And I know that there will always be a competitive nature to the posts here as we are talking about college sports, and the fans of respective teams will naturally have biased positions towards members of rival teams/colleges. So to have a percentage of smack talk and "insults" is not only expected by me, but considered by me to be healthy, and even fun to read.

But the football thread - which is the most popular thread here for all members - is overrun with threads having nothing to do with anything but arguments between Alabama and Auburn members. Even if the threads did not start out that way, or have anything to do with Alabama or Auburn. And it's the same thing over and over again....after a while, one thread looks just like another, and a certain group of members are consistently the main players, and they basically just repeat themselves over and over as they post from one thread to another. Is that acceptable?

And the arguments are not very intelligent in themselves: they're basically "are not-am too" arguments that are childish and neither prove nor resolve a single thing.

Maybe I need to just take a break for awhile until football season starts up again next this year, or just confine myself to the South Carolina forum sections, but I feel I may be missing out on the few threads that are newsworthy and informative.

This is just my opinion and I was wondering if anyone else here was noticing this the same way I am.....

The state immediately to the east of Mississippi is getting more unruly, yes.

I'm with you on this. As much as I love Alabama-Auburn smack talk, its gotten to an almost ridiculous point as of right now.

Just another reason to take Nick Saban off your Christmas/Holliday card list.

A lot of what I've read revolves around the Alabama-Auburn-LSU triangle, which often involves Saban to a large degree..

Oldest my eye. I have socks older that you sonny boy. I had to lie about my age so young fellers wouldn't make fun of me.

Oldest my eye. I have socks older that you sonny boy. I had to lie about my age so young fellers wouldn't make fun of me.

Edit: I said that I was NOT the oldest by far.

Why do you feel you have to lie about your age? This is a site about the South Eastern Conference. All the colleges within the SEC were in existence before any of us was born, and were probably playing sports longer, as well. There are grandfathers and great-grandfathers that played team sports for these schools. There's nothing wrong with supporting the SEC school of your choice, regardless of your age...
