He was on Kipers Big Board as the #3 overall prospect or over WR I think and he has passed up football and signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs. He probably would have been a 1st round pick but this means good news for guys like Meachem (UT), Rice(USC), Bowe (LSU).

He's going to be what, a pitcher?? He obviously thinks he has a longer career with the MLB than with the NFL, plus the guaranteed contracts. But he was picked to go high in the draft, so I don't know, I guess he likes baseball more.....

From looking at him in the Sugar Bowl game, he seems to have a really high opinion of himself. Sort of arrogant. But, he's a talented kid and will probably be a millionaire one way or the other.

It's hard to get crippled in baseball. If he's a pitcher, he won't even bat very often. If he's in the AL, he won't ever have to bat. Definitely a lot safer than going across the middle as a possession receiver; which most likely would have been his role. He wouldn't be considered a speedy wideout in the NFL.

Few ppl can pull a Bo Jackson, and even Bo didn't make it in the pros as long as he should have.

He actually was a great pitcher at ND and had pretty good stats. Baseball is brutal just cause you have to go through A ball AA ball and AAA ball before you likely get called up.

I think the real reason Samardzija gave up football is because LSU took his manhood. He thought he knew what if felt like to go toe to toe with real teams until he got a warm SEC welcome in the Sugar Bowl.:twak:

He just signed a guaranteed 10 million dollar deal, more guaranteed money than he would have made in the NFL, and the upside is way better financially, even for an average starting pitcher on the free agent market (think gil meche, etc.)
