Here's a look at how the individual SEC teams have stocked the NFL:

There are 164 players from the East currently playing in the pros.

Florida - 43
Georgia - 43
Tennessee - 41
South Carolina - 19
Vandy - 11
Kentucky - 7

There are 135 players from the West currently playing in the pros.

Auburn - 32
Alabama - 27
Ole Miss - 18
Miss. State - 17
Arkansas - 14
LSU - 27

I wondered about the rather large discrepancy between East and West. What are your thoughts, impressions, and opinions?

The Gators will probably be adding 7-8 more to the East side...;)

What the hell is up with LSU? The same as Kentucky, less than Vandy?

That is VERY shocking to me.

EDIT: This thread is the nail in the coffin! Auburn is on the downhill slide for SURE!

The east dominated the late 90's. It has evened out now, and expect that pattern to carry over to the NFL as the older players start to retire.

Maybe. I don't think UF's going to have any trouble doing it's part. Played for 3 NCs in the last 11 years, going 2-1. At that rate, we're going to be sending guys up for a long time.

You have no idea how fortunate you (and LSU) are.

Yea...UF has been very young the past couple of years...only sending 3-4 players to the NFL...with attrition and idiots like Marcus Thomas. Now, with all the SRs and 4-5 JRs that are likely to leave, the Gators should put several in this season.

Dogs will send 6-7. I would be surprised if there weren't 3 first day guys.

I look for Carolina to have 4 this year, but who knows, it could be less. We don't have many leaving.

LSU can move past UK this year -- I don't expect any of our seven regulars who finished up this season to be considered in the draft. A couple may get looks in training camp, but aren't likely to stick on a final roster.

But that's the end of the Hal Mumme - Guy Morriss legacy. Next year, we'll start pulling our weight a little better and get that number moving up. Barring injury, we'll have five sure draft-worthy seniors next year and 3-4 others who could gain draft status with big senior seasons and/or who will be signed after the draft.

It's not unrealistic to think that our NFL numbers could double from 2007 to 2008.

UK only had 7 because of NCAA probations with the scholarship reductions...not many quality players wanted to come to a lower tier SEC school thats on probation........I'm surprised UK had 7.

The biggest surprise for me was seeing that LSU only had 7 players, despite a recent NC. Also, I wondered about the rather large discrepancy between East and West.

On the NFL site they mistakenly listed 7 guys for LSU and 27 guys for Louisiana State University. It's a site screwup. Don't get your Cajun Crusties in a bunch.http://www.nflplayers.com/players/search_results.aspx?searchType=COLLEGE&collegeSearch=Louisiana%20State%20University. If you type in LSU, it'll only list 7 guys.

The East was the dominant division through most of the nineties that's why they have so many players in the NFL. LSU was a western doormat for most of the nineties and is why our numbers are so low for now. Five years from now I think LSU will be up there with Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia in the amount of NFL players.

Well, that clears it up, doesn't it. When you find data that doesn't fit with what you already know, a little deepter investigation is recommended.
