Wins in bold and all others are tossups. I think we get at least 2 or 3 of the toss ups for an 8 or 9 win season. But thats wt this point. Lots of things will happen between now and Sept 1.

W.Carolina win
Vandy win
Arkansas Toss up
Georgia Toss up
FSU Toss up
Houston win
Ole Miss win
Tennessee Toss up
LSU Toss up
Mississippi St. win
ULM win
Auburn Toss up
6 games should be a lock
Between Ark, Georgia, FSU, UT, LSU and Auburn we have 4 out of 6 at home IMHO we win all our home games. LSU game will be big if Alabama goes undefeated into that game having already beaten (Ark, FSU and TENN) then LSU will be drowned by the TIDE and Coach Saban will be gunning for our rivals in Starkville and across state, so who knows in a perfect world?! :excl:
My best guess is BAMA wins 9 games and a bowl for sure! RTR!!!!!!!!!

Auburn - Nov. 24th toss up
7-9 wins would and should be considered a successful first season for Saban... He may be great, but I think alot of people are forgetting the importance of getting ALL your coordinators in proper order... It may take a couple seasons... Good assistants make head coaches look great... JMHO...

I think a lot of Bama fans forget Saban's gonna change the defensive scheme from a 4-3/3-3-5 to a 3-4 under. we don't have quite the personnel (larger OLB) and it may take him a couple of years to get the defense he wants.
should be 7 wins min with the rest toss-ups. i expect 2 wins (probably tenn and fsu), making it 9-3 his first season. we're still not as loaded as LSU or auburn but we're making strides.
fernandomike
01-11-2007, 07:55 PM
Very few teams are a loaded as LSU. It's gonna take Bama awhile to reach that level of talent. You may beat them based on superior coaching and (or) breaks going your way, but they're right up there with UF as the most loaded teams in the conference and the country. I think Bama goes 8-4 next season.

10-2, I say losses to Georgia and FSU, but Bama wins the west next season.
Now that's just goofy! What are you drinking (smoking) up there in Arky??
Here's the Bama picture in 2007, in more realistic terms:
Western Carolina - Win
Vanderbilt - Sept- Win
Arkansas - Sept- LOSE
Georgia - Sept.- LOSE
Florida State - Toss Up
Houston - Toss Up
Ole Miss - Toss Up
Tennessee - LOSE
LSU - LOSE (probably badly)
Mississippi State - Win
Louisiana Monroe - Win
Auburn -Win
8-4 which could morph into 7-5 or (gasp!) 6-6.
Nick's biggest accomplishment next year will be to beat Auburn.

So, assuming 4 toss ups equal 2W/2L, you are saying you predict UA will go 6-7 next season. You are also saying that Bama with Saban is basically the same as Bama with Shula. Do you REALLY believe this or are you just trying to flame an otherwise pretty good thread? Judging by the Houston comment, Im pretty sure its the latter. I've said a few times Bama will go 7-5 or 8-4 next year. Possibly 9-3, but most likely 7-5 or 8-4. Dunno where you got 6-7 from, I didn't include any bowl games. Toss-Ups are just that. Toss-ups. Bama could win all 4.

Law of averages? Revenge? Emotion? Who knows? I do think they'll play that game like no other during the year. With it being the last game, they'll probably have all the kinks worked out. I get the feeling it'll be like the UGA game this year. UGA was just sick of losing when they played their best game. For Bama, just sick of losing to Auburn. Of course, it's not really a sure thing until Neo bets on it! :icon_rofl

Arkansas- Win
Georgia- Win (don't understand all the losses predicted here)
Florida State- Tossup

Tennessee- Win
LSU- Loss (Could easily be a win also)
@ Miss. State- Win
UL Monroe- Win
@ Auburn- Tossup
I say we'll do no worse than 9-3 with 10-2 a good possibility. There is not a sure loss on that schedule anywhere and with most of the tough games at home I think the ball will bounce our way a bit more this year.

Houston is coming back with a strong offense and a good coach. They want very badly to get some of their former prominence back. They'll give Bama a tough game, and may win.
Ole Miss finished the season looking pretty darn strong. They frequently give people, especially Bama, all they want. They may win.
Nick Saban realizes that the most important thing he can do to endear himself even more with the Alabama fans is to beat Auburn after five years. I think he'll do it.

Who is claiming 12-0 other than you?? Saban needs no magic my friend, as much as you love to believe otherwise, the talent is there and the depth is getting better every day. Tubby is the one that will need that magic because if he is going to win that SECC like you say, well, that will be a trick I dont want to miss. You know, its funny that you say this about winning the SECC in 07 despite the fact that you are losing the better part of a team that didnt even win the West this year. Not to mention, you have a second rate qb by your own admissions and he just lost his entire O-line. I know AU just reloads, I have been hearing that for years and its BS. Ask Miami, FSU, ND, Bama, Tenn etc....Trust me, your 15 minutes are almost up.

i'm not saying that ole miss can't play saban close as well. what i was implying is that shula is known not to prepare his team for games. his approach to football was very lackadaisical. saban is known for being very thorough in his preparations. like i said before, i don't expect a cakewalk, but i expect a much better and more complete performance from our team.

Houston will be a blow out. They will be going through the mother of all of rebuilds next season. They lose all of their playmakers on a weak defense to begin with, but their biggest loss will be Kevin Kolb who before the NC game was probably the 3rd QB taken in the draft. Leak may have bumped him, but he'll still be taken before Troy Smith. Bottom Line Houston won't be a threat again for quite a while.
I also predicted bama at 6-6 last year because of the players they lost (Ryans, Croyle to name a few) and their schedule. Look at the games they had: at Arkansas, at Florida, at Tennessee, and at LSU. Now next year, bama returns virtually all of their players, flips their schedule (Arkansas at home, LSU at home, Georgia at home, and Tennessee at home) and thats going to be the biggest thing working in their favor. I've always considered the Iron Bowl more of a neutral despite where its played because of the number of visiting team fans. Now, I would feel the same if they had Shula, but Saban will add a lot of fan excitment that will fillter to the players as well. I'm pretty sure that bama will make a run at the SEC title next year and could possibly make a run at more.
All that being said, I would like for them to continue to downplay their expectations for next season. This year was a big humbling exeprience for a lot of them and like many have said in this thread, they still could implode.
To me, LSU is the ? for next season. They are losing a lot of key guys, but like USC they don't rebuild they reload. Whats going to be interesting is to see how Miles does with losing virutally all of his staff. I'm still not sold on him as far as his coaching ability. If LSU repeats their season from last year to quote Dennis Green "I'LL CROWN HIM", but if he's not, your going to see a lot of Tiger Fans calling for his head. The VTECH game will be key for them early in the season at home, and then the Bama game will also, but otherwise they have one of the better schedules next season with the Cocks, Hogs, Gators, and Tigers all going to Death Valley. Bottom line is they could also be playing in Atlanta.
That being said, I'll go ahead and make another prediction, the winner of the Arkansas/Bama game plays in the SECCG next season.

Whats up with that? I was looking ahead to that matchup. Is the PAtheiC 10 a little worried about their 3-3 bowl season? Well they should be afraid of the SEC! Look what UT did to Cal. And... bare in mind that USC agreed to play Arkansas before anyone knew how good DMAC was going to be or before anyone knew they would be so strong in the west. Im sure Cal thought UT would be an easy win based on their terrible season before.
The Pac10 sounds scurred to me!

Actually, the DL has depth, it's just inexperienced. The LB unit is the one area where there is almost no depth whatsoever. It is important that we bring in some good LB talent in Febuary, guys who can play right away. (Allen Bailey is one guy I hope we can steal from UGA. 5* LB from GA.)

Lets take a look at our two teams...
QB - (UA )- I'll give you this one because JPW has a better arm but Cox will be a fifth year senior. This is almost a draw due to new schemes and such JPW will have to learn.
RB - AU - Lester and Tate will be a formidable 1-2 punch. With the addition of Fannin and Davis and with Stewart returning at FB. At this point Bama has a stable of RB's none of them really are proven at this point.
,
WR - UA - With Hall, Brown, Stover & Co. will be one of the better corps in the nation. Alabama has an advantage in this department. But this is one postion that underclassman can start and immediately contribute. Auburn has alot of young guys coming in highly ranked/redshirted and you have to look back to coaching changes with new schemes.
TE - AU - Trott, McKenzie, and Bennet returning
OL - UA - I give you the edge here simply because our OL will be very green next year. But also take a look back at how you line performed in some games. 3.5 yards per run is what I am referring to.
DL - AU - Advantage. Groves, Marks, Sims, Thompson will be one of the better D-lines in the conference next year. One of Alabama's major recruiting problems has been on the D-line. The ones you do have aren't very experienced.
LB - AU - Alabama is currently weaker at LB then we are. Blackmon, Gandy, Johnson all started games this last year. Even a kid that eventually redshirted early got time. Craig Stevens. Think back! Blackmon was suspended and well as Sears. Gandy was hurt and out. Alot of different kids statered and played for us.
CB - UA I'll give this one but but we are not bad off. We have three CB's returning that started games and Powers came in a lot as the fifth DB.
S - AU - Brock and Savage are a solid duo and this is a slight advantage or even a draw to me at this point.
ST - UA -We lose a lot in Bliss, Clark, and Vaughan. So by default, I will give this one. But Auburn has recruited well here the last couple of years. Plus, while not under probation we actually offered scholarships to these positions. Bryum is coming in this year as the nation's second ranked kicker. Shoemaker redshirted this year. Kutch also was recruited by us in 2005.
KR's AU We led the leagues this year and both returners are returning.
Then as my closing statement the Iron bowl is at Auburn this year.

Good analysis....except for the very last part. That was more of an observation.

Actually, the DL has depth, it's just inexperienced. The LB unit is the one area where there is almost no depth whatsoever. It is important that we bring in some good LB talent in Febuary, guys who can play right away. (Allen Bailey is one guy I hope we can steal from UGA. 5* LB from GA.)
this post is spot on, we do have some DL depth, but LB? sheesh, which makes me think we can nail Bailey w/the Saban hiring, the Bama name and PT right off the bat.
Alabama frankly has a chance this year for a decent W/L record because of TIMING and the LSU and AU fans are being a little homerish and are in denial, your cupboards are getting cleaned this year and LSU on top of getting a new OC, is getting a new QB and those both spell unpredictable and inconsistent and losses in big close games, you know it and I know it....AU has BC coming back w/a helluva backfield and two decent WR but whole line gone? I know you get Dunlap back but come'on guys, plus the losses on defense? Bama has an edge AT THIS POINT on those two games for those very reasons now lets get into the season, see how things shake out and I might change my tune

Nice analysis Dave! Pretty much right on.
Our O-Line is losing a lot but we will be a lot stronger than it sounds when someone says "we lose our whole OL". Dunlap is a monster, and a lot of talented young OL got PT this year when some starters were injured. If we land Lee Ziemba, he will most likely start and that kid is one of the best OL I've ever seen coming out of HS.
I dunno how anyone can give Bama the edge in the Iron Bowl this coming year at this point in time. Maybe by middle of next season AU will have a rough start or Bama will start off hot and then it would make sense to pick Bama over AU. But as of right now, AU has won 5 IB's in a row, great depth at nearly every position, and will have that game at home late afternoon/nighttime.
