Rumors are flying on the Bayou about Ryan Perrilloux...

LSU's Perrilloux not under arrest

BATON ROUGE LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has not been arrested. But it could be worse.

Perrilloux, a redshirt freshman from Reserve outside New Orleans, is among the subjects of a federal criminal investigation, according to multiple media reports.

Baton Rouge attorney Nathan Fisher, who has often represented LSU athletes in legal trouble over the years, is representing Perrilloux in this matter.

As of Wednesday, Perrilloux was still on the LSU football team, and LSU coach Les Miles sounded as if he knew very little of Perrilloux's situation.

"I have no information there whatsoever," Miles said when asked about Perrilloux during a news conference in which LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell announced he was going pro.

"You're giving me information," Miles said to the reporter's question. "I know nothing about what you're talking about. I do not know if he's in any trouble whatsoever."

Another Baton Rouge attorney said there were rumors Wednesday at the federal courthouse downtown that Perrilloux was going to turn himself in.

Baton Rouge Police spokesman L'Jean McKneely said Wednesday that a Ryan Perrilloux had not been arrested in the Baton Rouge area. New Orleans Police spokesman Bambi Hall said Perrilloux had not been arrested in the New Orleans area either.

Perrilloux or anyone in his family were not available for comment.

Perrilloux was the nation's No. 1 high school quarterback in 2005 coming out of East St. John, where he threw for 9,025 yards and ran for another 3,680 in his career. He chose LSU after first committing to Texas. Perrilloux was redshirted in 2005. In 2006, he played in five games, completing 1-of-4 passes for 10 yards.

With Russell leaving for the NFL and Perrilloux's future status unknown, LSU could be down to one experienced quarterback for the 2007 season. That is Matt Flynn, who will be a senior next season.

Flynn completed 12-of-20 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in limited duty in 2006. He was the MVP of the Peach Bowl last season with Russell not available because of a shoulder injury. Flynn completed 13-of-22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-3 LSU win.

"Certainly with the departure of JaMarcus, for both guys (Flynn and Perrilloux) that position becomes open and we're going to let the spring tell," Miles said. "Certainly Matt has an edge in experience and understanding, but I think it's always safe to let competition give the deciding answer. We'll go into spring, and there will be plenty of snaps to take all spring long for two quarterbacks. We'll certainly get a good view of who's best."

For the 2007 recruiting class, LSU has a commitment from one high school quarterback "" 6-foot-3, 210-pound Jarrett Lee of Brenham, Texas. If he signs with LSU next month, he will not join the team until August.

Miles will also be breaking in a new offensive coordinator this spring as he is busy now trying to find a replacement for Jimbo Fisher, who became Florida State's offensive coordinator on Monday.

Internet rumors have been rampant in recent days concerning a possible situation with LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux. Apparently, they are still rumors.

Louisiana Gannett reporter Glenn Guilbeau contacted the New Orleans and Baton Rouge police departments and both departments said Perrilloux, a redshirt freshman who turned 20 on New Year’s Day, had not been arrested.

Wednesday, at the news conference where JaMarcus Russell announced he was turning pro, LSU head coach Les Miles addressed the issue.

“I have no information there whatsoever. I know nothing about what you’re talking about," Miles said. "I do not know if he’s in any trouble.”

The best article is the one on NOLA where someone in the LSU athletic department says something along the lines of: "Of course we're not looking into disciplining him, that leaves us with only one scholarship player at QB."

LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux is involved in a federal criminal investigation, and Baton Rouge lawyer Nathan Fisher has been hired to represent the reserve quarterback.
A New Orleans radio station is reporting that federal authorities in New Orleans are investigating Perrilloux. Fisher said he is Perrilloux’s attorney and that he could not comment about the nature of the investigation, but could only confirm that the investigation is taking place.

Perrilloux has not been booked on any charges, Fisher said. Fisher also said he is unaware of any pending hearings or other court actions scheduled to take place in connection with the investigation.

“I don’t think it would be appropriate at this time to comment any further,” Fisher said late Wednesday afternoon.

At a news conference Wednesday announcing quarterback JaMarcus Russell’s intention to turn pro, LSU football coach Les Miles said he had no information about the investigation surrounding Perrilloux.

“I have no information there whatsoever. You’re giving me information. You’d have to elaborate at your leisure. I know nothing about what you’re talking about,” Miles said. “I do not know if he’s in any trouble whatsoever. I talk to my players almost weekly—a lot of guys.”

At that point, LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette ended the 15-minute news conference without accepting any further questions.

Herb Vincent, senior associate athletic director, declined to comment, referring all comments to federal authorities. Athletic Director Skip Bertman could not be reached.

Every major college football program in the country began recruiting Perrilloux early in his career at East St. John High School in Reserve. He signed a scholarship agreement with LSU in February 2005, ending one of the most highly publicized recruiting stories in the country that year.

He set a Louisiana high school record in 2004 with 5,006 yards of total offense as a senior after orally committing to the University of Texas Longhorns. Perrilloux reaffirmed his commitment in interviews until the day he signed with LSU.

Perrilloux raised eyebrows by predicting he would win the starting quarterback job at LSU in 2005 as a freshman — ahead of Russell and Matt Flynn.

Instead, Russell won the starting job and Perrilloux “redshirted” in 2005, which means he did not play that season. He played as a redshirt freshman in 2006, participating briefly in the late stages of five games and completing one of four passes for 10 yards.

He rushed three times for 13 yards.

Perrilloux turned 20 on New Year’s Day. LSU lists him as 6 feet 3 inches tall, 222 pounds. He also played baseball and basketball in high school, and scouts and coaches said he would have been a top prospect in those sports had he not made it clear he planned to play football.

USA Today named him the National Offensive Player of the Year his senior season at East St. John, and every major recruiting publication gave him a maximum five-star rating.

He was a Parade All-American, the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year and a player in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, an all-star game for high school seniors.

I always try
And you do an excellent job, I might add!:D

The word on the street is that the federal probe involves counterfeiting. If true, he has likely squandered a future similar to what JaMarcus is looking at.:money: How dumb is that!

How could the coach not know anything about his team's most sought after recruit? Especially in the wake of the Russell announcement. Miles can read, right? Every school in the SEC wanted him in '04, but LSU's coach isn't aware that he's in trouble. As far as I'm concerned, Miles is either a worse liar than Saban, or he's incompetent for not knowing what his players are up to. I find it hard... no, I find it impossible to believe the kid has a lawyer who sounds like the official player attorney, probably set up by the university; and nobody thought it might be a good idea to inform the coach. It definitely would've been better to utter the old standard, "Sorry, I can't comment on an ongoing investigation.". I'm aware it's a criminal investigation, not a school one; but claiming ignorance of a situation that everyone but the coach knows about, sounds almost as bad as the situation itself.

This all looks good with his three trips to court for traffic violations.
