View Full Version : Who is next year's best returning starter?

I'm hoping Glen Dorsey returns next year. Darren Mcfadden will probably be the overall best returning player, seconded by Percy Harvin. Which returning starter from your team is most key to your sucess next year?

Best returning starter? Percy Harvin/Darren McFadden/Andre Smith - toss up.

Really? You can't be serious....

I dunno. Leigh Tiffin did play a pretty big role in Arkansas' season last year.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis will be the most important returning starter for Ole Miss. I'd like to say Brent Schaeffer but ehhhhhhhhhh.

Best Alabama player returning?

It's a toss up among JPW, DJ Hall, Andre Smith, and Prince Hall (defense).

I think he is serious. That game jump started our season.

I think the most important returning starter for us will be Peyton Hillis. He would have had a big impact in our last three games(all losses). Most of McFadden and Jones's big runs this year were sprung off of great blocks by Hillis.

For LSU, it will depend on the new offensive coordinator. On defense i think it will be Glen Dorsey if he returns, but LSU is so stacked at the Dline it won't really matter much. On offense, it could be out of Keiland Williams, Early Doucet, Trindon Holliday, or one of the linemen.

Is Hillis even coming back?

McFadden for Arky. Harvin for UF. Ainge for UT. Stafford for UGA. Groves for AU. He's staying isn't he? SC's QB will be great by the time the season rolls around. Mark my words, and watch what Spurrier does to the kid.

Well, I was surprised he said he would be the overall best returning starter. One: Jamie Christiansen is the starting kicker. Two: Tiffin is a Soph in 2007 and he's not really that experienced. Or did he mean that he was the best player on Ark's team?

As far as Hillis goes, I'd have to agree. Without Hillis, Wisconsin was able to pull the victory. Had Ark had Hillis, DMac would have had a much more productive day in the Cap One Bowl.

For us anyway

McFadden is the best returning player from this season.

I agree. The only reason Tiffin was in there was because of injury.

I don't think most people realize what kind of impact Hillis has on our team. If you were to ask McFadden and Jones you would soon find out.

For us I would say on offense, Blake Mitchell, and on defense Jasper Brinkley. He will hurt people, as he did this year, (Ainge, Mcfadden, CJ Spiller etc.)

Jasper Brinkley is most definitely going to be the BEST returning starter. Blake has some room for improvement, but I don't disagree that he's one of the best returning starters.

I like Hillis alot and think losing him had a big impact on how the rest of the season played out for us. He's very important, but without McFadden and Jones we're not very good.

I think Hillis will play tight end in the NFL.

they didnt use Hillis this year near as much as last year.....I remember thinking over the summer that he was going to be a beast, he ended up being a quiet hero but I think he deserved more touches

He got more touches when McF and Jones were freshmen because Nutt doesn't like to use freshmen too much. Hillis didn't need more touches except for getting a pass in the flat for a first down or something. He doesn't have the capibility to take it to the house on every touch like the other two backs.

I am curious to see how good Blake Mitchell will be next year. I thought he looked good this year and has a lot of upside, but will he have the kind of targets to throw to like he did in Rice?

Depends on what the over is on how many DUI's he gets in the offseason.

For us, Brannan Southerland. I think he's more important to our gameplan than Stafford. Expect Kregg Lumpkin to have a monstrous season as well. You don't know the name Knowshawn Moreno yet (Lump's backup), but you soon will. He'll be solid enough to give Lump the occasional breather. (also assuming that Thomas Brown may medical redshirt)

When I saw this the first thing that came to mind was JPW for Alabama. He had a great QB rating with Shula so imagine what Saban will get out of him.
DMAC for Arkansas too for that matter.

Our best returning starter will be Tray Blackmon if he gets his life together. But overall I would say Quentin Groves will be our best returning starter.

Most important starter will be Brandon Cox, although this year we will have a legit replacement in Neil Caudle if Brandon can't turn things around.

Seems a lot of y'all are really forgettin about Andre Woodson of UK....uh he only led the SEC in passing yardage, TD's, completion/interception ratio.......and he is coming back with good receivers. I dont think I would leave him out of the top returning starters in the SEC. If he were playing for Auburn or basically anyone else other than UK y'all would be singing his praises.

Matthew Stafford. Finished the season beating 3 straight ranked teams and almost beat Florida. As a starter he was 8-2. Thats pretty impressive for a true freshman. He should be much improved next year as a seasoned soph.

I am going out on a limb and saying Mike Davis.. I think SC is going to need a strong run game next year, with no stand out receiver (yet). And I think Davis is the guy to step up. Mitchell will be ok, but I think Davis will be the stand out. Someone may emerge as a big time receiver over the spring, but until then I am going with a RB

Agreed. Stafford appears to be the real deal. He's smart, he throws very well, and he can pack it in and geaux. With his QB leadership, UGA should be much better next year.

At LSU, I'm look for these people to be really important next year:

RB - Keiland Williams (the best we've had in quite a while); add to this mix Richard Murphy and Charles Scott plus "old men" Alley Broussard and Jacob Hester and the running game should be devastating.
WR - Early Doucet (look for him to be one of the nation's best) and Brandon LaFell looks real good, too.
DL - Glenn Dorsey (he was a 1st team All-American this year) plus Marlon Favorite who is coming on strong.
LB - Ali Highsmith & Darry Beckwith (real ball-hawks)
OL - Ciron Black & Will Arnold (both bring seasoned experience) plus big boy Herman Johnson at 6' 7" , 351 lbs.
QB - Matt Flynn, of course, and Ryan Perrilloux (providing the rumors about his misdeeds with credit cards, etc., aren't true)

DJ Hall will be considered one of the better WRs in the league come next year.

I also think S. Castille will be a star, as I already think he's one of the better DBs in Bama history.

He is definately one of my all time favorite Bama db's, right there with George Teague, John "The Hitman Mangum", Roman Harper and Antonio Langham. He came right out of the gate making noise, making interceptions and putting some licks on people like a guy twice his size. My early prediction, S Castille for Thorpe Award in '07. Heard it here first.....LOL

I was very impressed with Simeon Castille this year against us in Tiger Stadium. He's extremely fast, smart, and hits like a Mack truck. And under Nick, he'll get even better.

UGA defensive back Paul Oliver was a tremendous player down the stretch. I was concerned he would leave early for the NFL but it now looks like he will return. I expect him to lead the defense next year.

I thought UK lost Little this year. If not he should be 2nd Team All-SEC.

I would rank the RB's in the confrence as:

1st Team

Darren McFadden

Felix Jones

2nd Team

Rafael Little

Ben Jarvis Green Ellis

You could almost make an argument to switch Ellis with Keiland Williams if Williams had more carries. I know Ellis is first team SEC, but that because they didn't want to have two backs from the same school first team. Ellis isn't that good.

I think Cory Boyd is much better, he's so fun to watch. I am not worried about our receiver issue, Kenny did great last year and several times I thought he was playing better than Rice. We have a few decent receivers that played a little last year. Kenny will do well, I'm looking for some returning guys to step it up and I'm axious to see the newbies.
