The University of Florida Gators now own the 2006 football and basketball National Championships. No school in NCAA history has ever accomplished the feat. And, no school may ever do it again. :celebrate

I said that three times during the course of the game. I also did a lot of Gator Chomps and "WTF, did he really just do that?!" during the game.

2006 is going to hold me for a while! Nothing could upset me right now. Thanks for being a loyal SEC soldier. I, for one, certainly appreciate the support. Nice to bring the crystal ball back where it belongs.

Hey, I do what I can. UF earned it every step of the way. If it wasn't for UF winning tonight, the "best conference in the land" debate would still be raging on.
Roll SEC! Roll Gators! Roll Tide!

And if LaPorta had stayed healthy and the rest of the team not gone down the crapper, they could have made a run in Omaha.

All that is nice but dont rule out the possibility of us winning basketball this year as well. Many well favor us(for a change).
Now that will be amazing! 2006 NCAA basketball champions, 2007 BCS football national champions, then 2007 NCAA basketball national champions! God I love it!
One thing at a time though. I official, Florida is ahead of Texas now in multi sport schools!

I got a few jabs in earlier, but I think they're going to be closed for awhile. I also got a few in at DeerTesticles.com, but both sites seem to be discouraging new posts. Can't imagine why. :brick: :icon_rofl

Congrats to you as well senior gator fan! I'm sure you were bleeding blue and orange while my mom was changing my diapers. What a way for Uf & the SEC to stretch their legs and show their dominance!
Heres another fun stat. Urban Meyer (as a head coach in div 1-A) is 2-0 in BCS games!
I could go on and on and on. I even heard on TV that Billy Donavin and Urban Meyer are neighbors! Gawd I want to move to that neighborhood.

Listening to the radio this morning, I heard someone state that this is a "blowout" record for Florida.... compared to other schools that have both a basketball and football championship, regardless of years. They stated that the closest school who has won both basketball and football titles, had the championships come 8 years apart from each other. The rest were decades apart.
Congrats again, Gators.

I don't want to take anything away from the feat that Florida has accomplished for 2006 by having the MEN's BB and football NC in the same year but apparently, women's sports don't count to anyone but me. If anyone wants to do the research, Tennessee accomplished the same feat in 1998 by winning the Women's BB NC and the BCS title in football. It may have never been done in men's sports but women's basketball is just as big now as it was eight years ago in Tennessee. Congrats to UF on their accomplishment though, it is a tough one for any school to achieve.

That counts to me... I knew the women had several titles in that time-frame, but somehow didn't put 2 and 2 together that the football team had one around that time as well.
I guess the radio host I heard was just speaking about men's sports. Good catch, VOLjlt.

Yeah, that was a good call. They're making the distinction of both men's titles in the same year, of course. But still, I'm a little ashamed I didn't catch it. The UT women win so many NC's, it should have occurred to me. Oh, and believe me, you're not the only one interested in women's sports. When the UF women won the soccer NC over North Carolina ( who usually wins it every year ), I was typically obnoxious. I bragged about them. It was almost as exciting as UF's BB NC, because nobody gave them a chance in the final against N. Carolina. As a matter of fact, it seems like we're always the underdog when we play for the NC, no matter what sport. I've got to admit I'm beginning to like that role. It's been working out pretty good, so far; and it makes those wins that much sweeter. What do you know; UF is Rodney Dangerfield. Always gets the last laugh, though.

Hey, can one of you Gators look into your new Crystal ball and tell me when the Dawgs get over this mental block w/ the WLOCP.
By the way, I remembered talking to a group of UF fans on the way out of Alltel Stadium. I told them then that they would win the National Championship. I guess I was just trying to make them stop poking me with sharp sticks, but hey, I was right.
I want the Gators to win every game except the WLOCP. Not because I like you, but b/c I want it to be that much sweeter when we reverse the streak (ref. Please see Vince Dooley era for reference)

That's hilarious. I've waited a long time for this kind of redemption. I can't tell you when it's going to end, but I'll tell you this. The WLOCP is going to be one of the most exciting games in the SEC next year. It's going to look like football snow in Jax. Tebow and Stafford being freshmen makes for a long rivalry. The only time Tebow's going to hold on to it is when he asks for permission to go trample somebody. BTW, did you like the T-shirts UF distributed for the game? GATOR DOMINANCE... Time To Walk The Dog... AGAIN!

Here's an interesting spin UK is trying to promote. Talk about mythical national championship!!! I'm not defending UK, but thought some of you folks might get a chuckle from this line of reasoning:

Well, 9 in your book...8 in ours. Remember, UGA counts a win vs UF when our team didn't field a football team....our players were fightin' in WWII...the UGA players joined the ROTC and stayed home to play football games...

From today's COW on CFN... http://cfn.scout.com/2/608565.html
And they didn’t go unbeaten, either … While Florida fans will deservedly be obnoxious until early April as the dream of dreams has come true holding the national titles in both basketball and football, it might not have been a first. Kentucky is listed in the NCAA record book as the 1950 football national champion after winning the Sugar Bowl over Oklahoma. Back in the day, national champions were crowned before the bowls. The 1951 hoops team won the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, meaning that UK also could lay claim to the double-double.

We've discussed it before. Only Sagarin recognized UK as the NC in football. Oklahoma and Tennessee are the recognized co-champions for 1950. And the BB team's NC is the 1951 season. Not too shabby, though. Used to be a FB powerhouse back in the day. Woodson's got a chance to give them even more recognition.

Yea...not to "discredit" UK claims, but UT and OK are "officially" recognized as MNC for 1950...the Gators are the first team to hold both Championships in the same calendar year.
On another note...I was a junior in 1988...Graceville High School here in Florida...we won the 1988 State Championship in basketball in March '88...then, won the football State Championship in December '88...first team in Florida HS history to win both in the same calendar year...like the Gators!!!
